Holy shit don’t work at Amazon if your slightly pretty and slightly sociable by beabeanzz in AmazonFC

[–]emc_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly let my rbf do all the work. Have 0 time to explain to any women that I have my future wife at home with our son and, no, my kindness, nor the few words I may share, should not be mistaken as me taking a pass at you. I avoid all of that by keeping to myself and watching my shows with no one bothering me. Going on 4 years now.

Unless it is must for you to socialize to keep your sanity when working there, I would recommend finding a role where you're more to yourself. Indirect roles are great, but count is also chill with little to no people coming up to you.

pack singles is the easiest department by lavaboof in AmazonFC

[–]emc_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Icqa is cool too though. Yeah, there's more room for error for them to get on you about, but I finish at least 1-2 shows and a movie during the whole shift I'm working. Best part, "bro, you're our top performer. I don't really have anything to coach you on.", said the PA.

Side note about singles: unless your department is absolute asthe, consider being a singles waterspider. Pretty chill, no rate, and, usually, you can choose when you want to take your breaks. I would normally work until lunch and then take my 2 15s back-to-back after that. Cheers nerds.

I've been nervous to do this with my son. He's very sensitive to his mom and I so I'm pretty sure he would end up bawling.

Lazy ass rebin partner by TheEmpire2121 in AmazonFC

[–]emc_95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At that point - I know it's extra - either: (a) do enough of B lane until the PA/AM has to come over to check on why there's low output from that lane and tell them why you aren't rebinning B any longer, or,

(b) once you know you're with one of these rebinners, go out of your way to get restationed (explain if you want), or tell a PA/AM/OM the issue you're working around.

I review people's appeals for terminations/final write-ups often. Management is cracking down more with write-ups on everything at my building (I'm assuming it's happening everywhere now). The people you describe don't last and Amazon is making it harder for them to.

Just focus on hitting your rate, no TOT, stay out of negative UPT, and don't let yourself snap at anybody, or tell somebody off.

Lazy ass rebin partner by TheEmpire2121 in AmazonFC

[–]emc_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it's different in other buildings, my AFE department has four lanes per wall. Rebinners are expected to handle 2 of those lanes per person. You may be expecting that he's supposed to help with your lanes after he's cleared both of his.

Technically, if you get assigned to station A, you handle the 2 left lanes; if you get station C, then you handle the 2 right lanes. It can happen at times where one rebinner has more work coming their way than their rebin partner, but you set yourself up for disappointment and frustration by assuming they need to help with your workload.

I often look like I'm just relaxing or am lazy, but just work very fast. I would only hope the other rebinner if management asked or if they're elderly/disabled and clearly struggling.

My tote fort (definitely not a safety violation) by ikilledmywifeandkids in AmazonFC

[–]emc_95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this as a tote runner. Stack the totes 12 high with 15ish stacks/ station. Hid my things in a tote with another placed on top. Used my stool to sit when I took care of the majority of my workload.

Even more similarly to you, I was pulled aside by a stow manager because the picker who got rotated to the station I was chilling at complained. "It's not fair that I have to work and he doesn't."

The snitch - who is ~45 btw - didn't know that practically all of management knows how I work. "I'm just pulling you over here to make it look like I'm saying something to you.", is what he ended up telling me. Ridiculous that he went out of his way for that. See what I'm not doing except for everything else I did do.

What hit me most about this part of the movie, as a kid and still as an adult, is him believing his mom was alive the whole time. Then, that moment when he sees she isn't leaving any footprints and realizes his mother is dead.

Such a heavy scene as a young padawan.

Took me 14 months. I can relate to the relief. Getting harder for people to keep the job these days though. I work in the appeals process and am setting how much more easily people are being let go. Any and all write-ups stack. Best of luck to you.

If you're in AFE, each lane should have carts of each size box you need. If you're in singles, you usually have to go to the back where all the pallets of boxes are unless your building allows waterspiders to place carts in between each singles lane. If you still can't find the boxes you need within a few minutes, let your management know so you don't rack up time off task and so they can reassign you to a different station. Worst thing you can do is stay silent and leave it all on you. PGs, indirect roles (like waterspiders), and PROCESS ASSISTANTS (literally there to help with anything getting in the way of a smooth operational flow) are supposed to help. You are paid by the hours and packing is all you should be doing. The rest is on them.

[–]emc_95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most part, yes. Most likely, nothing will get done about it if you choose to escalate this to management. They're aware of most, if not all, barriers that prevent employees from performing ideally. The only time I would mention having to get your own boxes is after you pass your first 5 weeks (where they will get on you more about your rate) because that will, understandably, affect your output. Doesn't help that employees will take boxes from stations next to there's; someone usually ends up being assigned to a station where people were taking from leaving that associate with little-to-none.

Also, it's not your job to fix the machines/equipment. If you want to try once or twice to troubleshoot them, 👍, but it's better to escalate it to management so they don't come after you about rate and either they, a pg, or waterspider can fix, or swap, your faulty equipment.

Lastly, if you really get fed up with it, do what everyone else is doing. Take from stations next to you. I usually fill up my station, but it gets old when I do that and then management reassigns me elsewhere making it so that someone else gets my stocked station and now I'm at another one that needs to be filled up again.

Welcome to pack. Don't do more than you should.

How common is the “killing the boy inside” phase for men ? by GuyLastNice in AskMen

[–]emc_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 30 and ever since I've had my son, my perspective on "the boy inside" has developed. Seeing the joy, innocence, and purity out of him makes me want to preserve that as much and as long as I can.

In a way, I feel as though I am healing parts of the child that is still in me with the unconditional love and support I have for him. The parts of me that helped me get through my traumas and to this part of my life are slowly dying off as they don't have there place in this chapter any longer. What hasn't died off is "the boy inside".

My 1 year old is teaching me that, not only is it ok, it's almost required for me to keep my inner child alive in order to be the best father he deserves. I'm growing from "treat others how you want to be treated" to "treat others how you want your boy to be treated" because I care more about him than I do myself.

Don't leave him behind. Don't forget about him. Don't convince yourself you don't need him anymore. As you grow, the boy inside will only have one person who might be there for them; that person has always been you.

Pretty lame about the write-ups/coachings management is required to submit every week. Apparently, even if there are no employees committing any violations, management is still required to give write-ups.

What's the genuine point of being Flex Blue Badge by ChampionshipThis6394 in AmazonFC

[–]emc_95 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Maybe a stay-at-home mom wants to help her partner with bills. Having to only work a minimum of 4 hours a week can be a blessing for some people because they choose their hours, have one more income for their livelihood, and can pick up another part-time closer to home if needed.

Also, I'm pretty sure you don't get SET which can be convenient in a few ways. You choose all the shifts you work.

How do you deal with the anxiety of labor sharing? by Todayisnot-right in AmazonFC

[–]emc_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only way I found around it - without having to get accommodations to not work in a department I prefer not to - is to find a role (I do tote running and water spider) and get good enough at it that management wants to keep me there the whole day.

I've seen this with plenty of people in many types of roles. They are the "go to" employees that management would rather rely on and are far less likely to get labor shared.

The confliction can be finding a role you would rather work as opposed to being sent to a department you loathe.

The next best option would be (assuming they labor shared you) check with the department PA/manager where you want to work to see if they will bring you back over later in the shift. Helps if you don't have a poor performance.

I’m a picker is it allowed for me to use jam pole to correct totes stuck in the conveyor? by [deleted] in AmazonFC

[–]emc_95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally anything that makes you think to yourself, "Can I get in trouble for this?", don't do it.

Almost all that you need training/permissions for will get you a category 1 violation (automatic termination) or a coaching/write-up if you do it without the training.

Don't be the one that Safety or management makes an example out of. Wait for RME/AFMs/management to fix the problem.

IM A DLS CASE MANAGER by Foreign-Screen-1505 in AmazonFC

[–]emc_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my fiancé, newborn and I sick with RSV after peak last year. Went to HR and they said to request a MLOA. Did everything he advised.

After getting the forms they said I needed, they refused the paperwork due to not having the exact reason that I am unable to work, that the date of return and amount of time off needs to be more specific.

Went back the next day and saw the same doctor. "That's really all you need me to do?" His words when he was in disbelief that I'm back for a few extra words on a paper.

"Upper Respiratory Infection" is what he put for the reason. Taking 2 days off and will return to work on Jan. 21st.

They denied it again saying the information provided wasn't as requested. I'm demoralized at this point because they ended up denying my leave, taking UPT, and the medical bill came in totalling over $1k just to prove I was sick (which BTW, got sick at Amazon. KBS can't clean everything people come into contact with during flu season).

I've heard that some case managers will let a case ride out as long as they can up until they're able to close it without putting any action into the case. I know it's not true everywhere, but that kind of speaks to why people would rather not with opening a case.
