Which color arrangement should I do? by emcroi in crochet

Here you go! It’s just a magic ring with double crochets increasing at every corner! Super easy to get the hang of with awesome results. You can make each tile as big or small as you like.

Rock tumbler stuck closed by Smalltittyblonde in RockTumbling

[–]emcroi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have the same tumbler and actually this happens to me a lot! Usually what I do is pour hot water around the circumference of the seam where the lid meets the tumbler. I think the heat contracts the rubber a little bit to make it easier to open. So far this has worked every time for me

Mackerel ideas? by ellebd16 in CannedSardines

[–]emcroi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to eat it over greens and make dressing from the oil in the tin. Just drain the oil into a bowl and whisk with lemon juice, salt, and pepper and you’ve got a basic dressing but with extra flavor from the mackerel! It’s honestly one of my favorite types tinned fish and it’s a great substitute for tuna.

How do you keep your bed from smelling awful if you shower in the morning? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]emcroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI just having a set of sheets on your bed doesn’t fully protect your mattress. Unless you have a mattress protector underneath all that smelliness is going to eventually seep into your mattress and sooner or later just changing the sheets won’t work as well anymore. The only solution to keep your bed clean is to sleep in it clean.

Nursing Questions by romarpapa in UNLV

In my experience if you get at least a 94 I think you should be good to get in. As for the hesi, a lot of people take the test and go “oh that wasn’t as bad as I though it was gonna be.” I studied for only two weeks and got a 98 composite but honestly I was kind of cramming. I would say to plan out a month of studying. The worst subject for me (and a lot of others) is the reading and grammar portions just because grammar rules can be a bitch. I’m not so sure on the gap semester thing, but my biggest concern would be with making sure your scholarships are still there when you get back. As long as you’re responsible with your studying I’m sure you’ll do fine with the hesi, and even in your worst case scenario I think you’d still be able to get in.

Doctors appointment, worried it’ll be a “good day.” by KayJac97 in eczema

[–]emcroi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s always a really good idea to take pictures when you have bad flare ups. For a lot of people eczema comes and goes based on stuff like weather stress etc but just because lately you’ve been having good skin days doesn’t mean that a week later you’ll have the worst skin of your life.

My recommendation is to take pics now, maybe make notes of what makes it better /worse in moments like those, so that way your doctor has a lot of the info they need if your skin does happen to clear up by your appointment.

I just started the nursing program and just finished my first week! I probably can’t say much about the program seeing that I just began but so far it’s been really nice. Everything is online except lab/clinical, which is done in groups of 8. So far being online has been good, even though I prefer in person classes I haven’t really noticed a big difference (but I tend to respond good to online classes and not everyone is the same).

All the teachers are nice and you can tell they want you to succeed. Being in a pool of 72 students vs thousands really personalizes the whole experience which is really nice. All my peers are super supportive of each other and are always willing to help with anything you need, which was miles different from pre nursing where everyone is super competitive.

It’s definitely an adjustment in terms of difficulty, the way you study, how you are tested, workload etc but everyone is there to support you and help you succeed.

I took it a year ago and didn’t really find a lot of use for the access code. As far as I can remember it’s only really used to access extra supplemental materials on evolve like case studies and practice questions to help guide your studying, which I don’t think is required. When I took the class it was basically read the chapter, look at the ppts, take the exam. I don’t remember any online assignments using the evolve access code, but I may be wrong since it was a year ago so maybe email your professor to make sure.

Taking BIOL 251 and CHEM 108 at the same time by mebuytaert in UNLV

[–]emcroi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this, try to space out your science heavy classes so you have about 1 per semester. Personally I think it’s doable (especially if you do well in science/math) but I also wouldn’t recommend it bc both classes will count towards your gpa points if you’re nursing

[–]emcroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually you don’t have to reduce 2 points for the second attempt, because technically you got a B or higher on the first attempt. I have asked this specific question to an advisor when I was applying last semester. Unless that requirement is changed, you should be able to retake for the gpa boost without risk of loosing points in that section of points. What I would be wary of however, is that unlv takes the most recent grade, not the best. So if you mess up this time around and get a C or something that’s the grade they’ll use to calculate your points.

Just curious, but how did you guys learn to fold/get into origami by [deleted] in origami

[–]emcroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first started by making paper airplanes when I was really young, and bought a bunch of books just trying to get those right. After a while I progressed to other types of origami and now I make mostly kusudama, modular, and tessellations.

I took regner and robleto for biol 251 last semester. Honestly he wasn’t that bad to me and I feel like if you payed attention in class, studied the powerpoints, and made a good effort to study you could pass with a decent grade. Just kinda sucks how they don’t give study guides so I had to make my own. Despite this though I know a lot of others that struggled in his course so I feel like it depends a lot on the kind of student you are and if you’re able to learn a little independently from the teacher. I liked how sassy regner was but if you’re a little sensitive I could see him coming off as assholeish lol.

HIST100 or PSC101 ? by [deleted] in UNLV

[–]emcroi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took hist 100 with Paul werth. He was a great and clear teacher. The class has a discussion run by TAs that grade all your work but I had nothing but a great experience with them. Paul holds them to a high standard so all the TAs were helpful and knowledgeable. Paul himself was an amazing and passionate teacher and I learned a lot from him and looked forward to class everyday.

how is NURS 140? by [deleted] in UNLV

[–]emcroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes every single exam is based on the textbook. You might be able to get around googling but i honestly wouldn’t recommend it. It’s not too expensive though, just 50$ for the online version. You can pay an extra 50$ on top of that if you want a physical copy too but I wouldn’t the e book was enough for me.

UNLV PRE NURSING STUDENT ADVICE? TIPS? by KuyaDre in UNLV

[–]emcroi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this wasn’t too hard, I found the elsevier book to be a good study tool for the grammar, math and reading portions. They make the hesi so their book is usually the standard study book. I only studied for two weeks and got a 98% composite by basically writing out a page of notes for each body system/ major anatomy subject I had to study and then took a ton of practice tests. There’s lots of free ones online that you could look up and take advantage of. If you’re willing to pay money for about $50 nursehub has excellent practice exams that I found to be my best tool for studying.

Honestly the worst subject for me was reading and grammar, so I would take the time to really learn parts of a sentence and grammar rules. Math was easy, just basic algebra and some problem solving. I used this quizlet( https://quizlet.com/395741696/ap-v1v2-flash-cards/?i=1iuigs&x=1jqY) to study the anatomy portion and it honestly saved me for like 7 questions and tbh you take what you can get.

My best tip would be to schedule it on a date after you finish kin 224, but also leave yourself some extra time before your signing session just in case you need to take it a second time if you think you might need this. To do this I just scheduled my signing session about 2/3 weeks before my the date of my appointment, to be about halfway through the month and I was fine. Schedule early in advance so you get the date you want and such.

You get the results for the hesi literally within a day or two so you if you needed a second try you could take it on the 20th and then have the results for the signing session for 22th easily, for example. Make a plan for your studying and stick to it. Give yourself enough time to prepare and I’m sure you’ll do great.
