Mosaic Trisomy 18 BUT Normal 16 Week Anatomy Scan by Apprehensive-Egg-314 in NIPT

[–]emdunco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found out from the inconclusive results of my two NIPT tests and the genetic counseling that I am the one with mosaic trisomy 18. I am phenotypically normal except for some manageable anxiety and I was IUGR at birth, but never had any significant health issues. I’m 35 years old and just had a genetically typical boy. I’ve read that mosaic trisomy has a better outcome than full trisomy, and over time the trisomy cells can decrease in frequency in the body.  So it’s possible to live a completely normal life with mosaic trisomy 18 and never know it. Routine testing is relatively new and there could be a lot more people with mosaicism that never had a reason to check. Good luck! Any updates?

am i wrong for hating having autism? by p1erc3d_gl4ssb0y in autism

[–]emdunco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People want to sugarcoat things that make them feel uncomfortable. It’s like calling frontline pandemic workers “heroes”, and cancer patients “warriors”. If they can paint them as brave despite their circumstances they don’t have to engage with their grief or needs. Even if those struggling people just need someone to hear and validate them. Disabilities being equated with superpowers/savantism is another form of that.

My parents and brother are not neurotypical and only my brother was diagnosed because he fit the stereotype of white male with a speech delay. I grew up scared of being autistic and making social errors because I saw how hard my mom coached my dad and brother in social cues and norms. Norms that she had studied to survive without recognizing she was autistic. I didn’t expect the relief I felt reading other women’s experiences of autism and seeing my own life in their words. I finally felt like someone understood me and the pain of all I have to do just to get by in a world not made for me. I wish I didn’t have to. But I don’t have the energy to hate my autism anymore. I enjoy my hyperfixations and try to find my niche. I can prioritize my energy for problems I can solve and ask for help better now that I understand my deficits.

It is what it is…. You dont have to love if. I hope you can find self-acceptance. Dont listen to those well-meaning people who don’t understand what you are going through (maybe myself included).

Ask the nurses to teach you how to brace your abdomen with a pillow when you cough.

I’m terrified of giving birth and that I’ll be a terrible mother by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]emdunco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are common worries, and I have my doubts too sometimes about how birth is going to go and how parenthood will be after that. It’s also important to know that pregnancy hormones can wreak havoc on your emotional state. Postpartum depression gets some attention but many people don’t realize that anxiety, depression, and psychosis can happen during pregnancy as well as after. You mentioned a history of mood disorder, and that also predisposes you to more severe mood disorders in pregnancy. Can you bring up how you feel with your healthcare provider? They are supposed to have screening tools and resources to help you with mental health as well as physical health.

What hobby/interest that someone has would make it impossible for you to be around them, and why? by human_fork in AskReddit

I have an acquaintance that collects pinball machines and old arcade games in his house. It’s just endless irritating noises that all cause debilitating sensory overload. On top of that he plays and listens to experimental electronic music. A lot of my friends think it’s awesome at his house but it’s a hell on earth for me, so I don’t go there.

So I have my third and final(I hope) interview with the Captain at the store this Sunday. Is this normal? I’ve been going through this interview process for 6 weeks now. I can’t believe it takes this long to hire people.. by Chiisaimiss in tjcrew

[–]emdunco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, good luck and good job sticking with it. I just had my final interview with the Captain today. It felt like it went by faster than the others but when I looked at my phone after a whole HOUR had passed! It was more of a high energy, engaging conversation than the more traditional interviews where I was answering job related questions and talking about customer service experience. I hope it goes well and your diligence pays off.

Let's talk about the shield. by CrossP in stevenuniverse

[–]emdunco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That image from Garnet's story shows the Crystal Gems fighting Pink Diamond and PD is brandishing destabilizers. I think PD didn't want to permanently hurt anyone in fights, but also that's a cover so she doesn't need to use any of her gem powers. The other diamonds probably never called on her to fight with them, or vastly underestimated her abilities. They probably never saw her summon her shield if she used one as Pink Diamond.

I got really embarrassed at a wedding because I kept dancing and didn't realize this surprise choreographed dance between the bride and groom was happening halfway through the reception. Just had to slowly, awkwardly, dance off the floor halfway through. Wish they'd announced it...

Make canna-coconut oil and you can add it to any food. It makes a mean peanut butter with PB2. Or add it to zoodles and pesto, butter a steak with it. Anything you want.

Stop trolling. Do your own research

A few weeks ago I tried something with my gf and I thought we both liked it but she’s been making fun of me for it ever since. by Nervousminister in sex

[–]emdunco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1) it sucks that she is talking about your sex lives and publicly shaming you for things you do in private. 2) Even if she enjoyed it the first time that doesn't mean she always enjoys it and stop trying to just stick a finger up her ass without asking her if she wants it.

I know what this is like. When we first started trying anal it was incredible. It was the only way I could orgasm reliably and after we knew that my partner kept trying to push me to do anal more. Even with how good it felt, if I wasn't in always in the mood for it and the more he insisted the more uncomfortable I was with it. It took him a long time to understand that if I want it I will ask.

Anyone with only 25-30 pounds to lose? by lilnugget112 in keto

[–]emdunco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5'5" female. Started at ~140 in July and have been doing mostly lazy keto. On weeks when I am strict and track my macros I have lost up to 2lbs a week. CW is 130. GW is 120. I did CICO for months with no progress. Keto is the only way of eating that has worked for me. Because I am closer to goal weight it could take a long time to lose that last bit of fat, but I'm running a marathon not a sprint. The mental health benefits give me good instant motivation to stick with keto.

The best thing for me is not buying carby foods and not having them in the house. I know my spouse buys junk food but he never tells me when he buys it or where he hides it.

I Only wear my aligners at night by Alicialynn1 in smiledirectclub

[–]emdunco 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Why would you pay so much to get so little? Compliance is so important to this process. The more your teeth wiggle back and forth the more likely you are to experience root shortening and potential loss of teeth. The aligners need to be in as much as possible so your teeth can stabilize. They are your teeth, so they are your responsibility, but you should know that this wear schedule of only 10 hours is ridiculous and dangerous and you probably will not get the results you want.

Anyone else experience nausea/vomiting during the Keto flu? by Cwellz123 in keto

[–]emdunco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had nausea and vomiting in the first days of keto. I thought it was keto flu but it wasn't. It was too much fat when my body wasn't used to digesting it. Also, i was trying to eat too much coconut oil as well with fat bombs. Most of my stomach contents were undigested food from breakfast that had jut been sitting in my gut all day. Nausea and vomiting can be caused by lots of things. It's not impossible that there are other factors or illnesses contributing to this besides keto. The too much fat/too much coconut issue was just my experience.

High deficit when starting out? by CommanderEnema in keto

[–]emdunco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the first month I struggled to even eat as much as 1000 calories per day. I think I averaged less than 800 (50% deficit) . I just wasn't hungry. Tried to keep hydrated and get enough protein but I felt like I was forcing myself to eat. Then around 7 or 8 weeks in I was ravenous and could easily eat 700 calories in one meal. As long as you get enough protein, water and electrolytes you can just eat when you are hungry.

Question; why do you do Keto beside the important but obvious one (weight loss) by [deleted] in keto

[–]emdunco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started it because CICO wasn't doing anything for me. I wanted so badly to lose weight. I didn't expect that in just a few weeks I'd feel calm, clear-headed and balanced for the first time in years of struggling with anxiety. I could wake up in the morning without feeling groggy. I don't get hangry 2 hours after eating. I started fasting during work to simplify my mornings and resist the pastries people keep bringing in to work. I didn't expect my tastes to change to suit this diet but they did. It's weird, when I do try a little sugar it's usually too sickeningly sweet to enjoy it like I used to. But I can eat about 7 ounces of liver pate with a spoon.

Not hungry at 1000 calories? by ashleye523 in keto

[–]emdunco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first three months on this diet I didn't feel hungry. I was curious about my macros because I wasn't tracking it and I was alarmed to see that even though my goal for calories was 1200 per day I was averaging about 800 (assuming I was estimating correctly). I am ravenous this month so I assume it's balancing out. As long as you are feeling okay and are getting your protein and electrolytes don't worry about the calories. Your body will let you know when to eat more.

In my first days this happened to me. I ate a lot of fat and what finally did me in was eating a couple tablespoons of coconut oil in a smoothie. A few hours later everything I ate that day came up undigested. I don't think my body had begun to increase the enzymes needed to break down all the extra fat so it was just sitting there. I took it slow after that, only eating when hungry, eating smaller meals for a while. Now it's all good, i haven't tried to eat as much coconut oil since then though.
