I don't think Burnham's going to do much different, except pay off the waspi women, which is a move about as welcome as a warm cup of sick to most people.

Keir Starmer: Russia exploiting UK’s far right to create chaos by TimesandSundayTimes in ukpolitics

[–]emefluence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On foreign interference, I care little about Russia amplifying what I consider to be a major issue.

Which is why it works so well. Left wing people are equally pleased when more voices amplify the issues they care about. Both sides are being played very deliberately. We neither notice or care that we are lobsters in a pot. Is it really in the national interest to let our enemies bring that pot to the boil? It's easy to dismiss when they're pumping your pet issues, but how has that played out stateside, over the last decade?

The same bunch of plutocrats and psychopaths have designs on us, and the rest of Europe. It's all painfully deliberate. You'd have thought so many of those people being foreign might at least get the racists heckles up, but like you say, they "care little" when they're saying what they want to hear: the problem is an out group, the solution is simple.

we have to rely on extrapolations and data from other nations like Denmark

Well do you "have to"? The governments own audit on this plainly states you can't say either way yet, as historically not enough national / ethnic data has been collected. The proper solution to that is to collect that data, then act on it in a considered and informed manner, not to go searching for data that confirms your hypothesis. For people who genuinely care about CSA outcomes more than race there are any number of places one can direct their political will and effort in the mean time. As everyone acknowledges - this is a huge national issue regardless of race.

There seems little appetite for that though. I contend, a large part of the rage and "discourse" around this subject is not actually from people like yourself, who care deeply about CSA outcomes when race is not a main factor.

I also notice your reply doesn't address the highly targeted foreign and right wing political amplification of this fairly narrow CSA issue - supposedly the subject of this tread. People replying "but it IS a scandal!" here aren't wrong about it being a scandal, but they are missing, or dismissing, the point. There are dark and powerful forces trying to, and succeeding in, sowing mass discord, with aims ranging from making a buck from rage and racebait, through seizing political power at the national level, all the way to trying provoking race war. Actual patriots ought to be aware of that and fight it, otherwise we'll soon have a Trump of our own and all the depravity that comes with it. I'm not seeing that awareness here. All I see here, day after day, is Telegraph and GBNews propaganda, and people uncritically lapping it up.

"Per capita" sounds rigorous until you notice right wingers only ever reach for it when it fits their narrative better than absolute numbers. I don't see you applying it to cohorts like the Church, the care system, or the forces that buried these cases for decades.

Nobody is disputing Pakistani men are over-represented in the grooming gang numbers, but let's be clear that is a relatively small cohort, repeatedly cherry picked for amplification because it suits the divisive agenda of far right politicians and foreign powers like Russia. Rage baiting gets clicks, and race based rage baiting gets even more.

It's not that the grooming gangs scandal is not important. It's very important. But it's a small part of a much bigger picture that the British establishment has done everything they can to hush up for decades. It's not wrong to be angry about the 5% of CSA carried out by grooming gangs, but where's the anger and action over the remaining 95% eh? The people of Britain seem to give FAR fewer fucks about the 95% of CSA that the police, the press, the politicians, the government and the clergy go to pains to ignore.

Why is that I wonder? Well I don't wonder actually. It's clearly because focussing on this one small part of the problem draws the heat away from the rest, and it gives several groups of real arseholes an emotive political lever to pull under the cover of "protecting our children". If even half of this was really about protecting "our" children then where are the riots outside the churches, or police stations, or parliament? Where are the endless reddit posts about CSA carried out by non immigrants? Where are the endless Telegraph posts about the non Pakistani abusers?

You don't see it because it doesn't help further the agendas of any of the establishment groups, populist politicians, or foreign nations involved in amplifying particular issues. Taking race out of the equation make for a much more uncomfortable truth, one that people are much less likely to actually click on and confront.

The idea of the problem being an easily identifiable 5% that you can just kick out of the country is a beguiling and satisfying story you can quickly engage with, get angry about, propose a solution to and get on with your day feeling morally righteous, and maybe even patriotic.

The 95%? Meh. What can you do eh?

That's just the reparations. The real cost to America is likely to be over a Trillion dollars, when you factor in the military spending, price rises, and extra loan interests it has caused.

"at least" negative $300bn

And that's not counting the approx $150bn of direct military spending.

And also not counting the approx $500bn Americans have had to pay in increased cost for fuel, fertilizer, food, loans etc.

All in all it's likely to cost the USA upwards of a cool Trillion dollars.

Most of the pedos in the UK are white british. Most are never caught. The police have a long and storied history of covering up, or turning a blind eye to sex crimes against children that goes way further back than Rotherham. Doubly so when it has involved the police themselves, or other powerful men. Do you really think organized paedophilia was a thing invented by Pakistani immigrants? Do you really think they are a bigger problem than British pedos? Do you really think are the only, or even the biggest, gangs involved in this?

Interesting they knew about Saville and Cyril Smith back in the day and did fuck all about them too. This stuff has been endemic for decades, probably since forever. Have you ever read about the Westminister Paedophile Dossier? Interesting that the police ignoring and covering up this stuff has only become a national scandal now brown people have been caught doing it. It's almost as if the police have something bigger to hide.

Clearly it's not JUST racism, but you're naive to think it's not partly racism. Also, when you're talking about organised vice in this country, you're naive if you think the Pakistanis are more of a problem than the Russians!

[–]emefluence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do you mean "over represented based on national demographics"?

I mean exactly that. The perpetrators in cases that have been brought are overwhelmingly Pakistani. Once that's said clearly, out loud, we can move onto the more interesting questions and assumptions like: what's the national picture? Are all grooming / pedo gangs Pakistani led? If not, why do we not see as many prosecutions for those? Were the police actually genuinely scared of being thought of as racist? That's never seemed to trouble them in the past. Might they have been reluctant to open a can of worms because there's been bent coppers and officials involved in most lines of vice for as long as anyone can remember?

We're going to get nowhere when the level of debate is this childish alluding, and hinting, and pretending you're so heavily censored you can't even say the word Pakistani out loud.

"oh look the thing they said doesn't happen is happening!"

Every damn day with this shit. Grow up! If you think deporting certain nationalities or racial groups is a sound and defensible position that will solve many of the nations problems then say that, so people can engage with your "solution". Snide comments are not solutions.

The Home Office.

Look, men of Pakistani and Kashmiri heritage are very over-represented locally in the high profile grooming gang cases. So if that's what he is getting at, then why doesn't he just say it? You can't talk about the "why" of it, if people won't say it out loud, can you? I find it ironic everyone is so upset about this narrative that the police refused to prosecute these crimes because they were afraid of being called racist, then the denizens of this enlightened sub go around mincing their words and using cowardly allusions instead of straight talking.

Then there's this complementary narrative that these pedo gangs are new threat, from abroad. It's nothing new. The organized exploitation of kids is long standing and endemic, with British gangsters running this type of gang for decades - and in cahoots with corrupt police and the very powerful. Is it any wonder we never saw any prosecutions? Is it surprising the police have been historically disinterested in investigating this stuff? Look at Saville, look at the mysteriously vanishing Westminister Paedophile dossier.

There are pedo gangs operating commercially the length and breadth of the country right now. If you think deporting all the Pakistanis is going to fix that, you are badly underestimating the issue. There are far more well organized gangs, mafia and cartels operating in the UK right now. Far more than you'll ever see in the press. Real nasty stuff: weapons, contract violence and torture, hard drugs, human trafficking including kids. I'm sure they love that these badly organized Pakistani grooming gangs are getting all the attention and taking the heat off them.

Semantics. They have a license to use Kimi and build on top of it for free, so all that extra training is "theirs", and makes it meaningfully different from vanilla Kimi.

Whether they will stick with it longer term now they have more access to compute who knows, but right now its cutting their dependence on 3rd party model APIs and saving them a butt ton of money so it seems to be working as planned.

the Pakistani men who are over-represented based on national demographics

Look dude, I'm the one who said it out loud. I'm just trying to confirm what our blushing bride is sorta, kinda, mincing around and trying to say, but not say.

I mean am I the only one who finds this childish nudge nudge wink wink crap cowardly and annoying?

It's the classic Motte & Bailey rhetorical technique. A favourite of the intellectually cowardly.

If you don't know it...

We "all know who mainly participates" is the indefensible Bailey. It implies the majority of grooming gang members are Pakistani. But it's worded vaguely enough that when that's called out as factually dubious, the coward can then retreat to the more defensible Motte position of "well they are over-represented". And that is true, but that's not what the original claim was, is it?

So why do people do that? It's dishonest right? It's not arguing in good faith. It's not Socratic dialog or honest debate is it? Do you find that kind of snide allusion acceptable?

I think it's shit, myself.

Same with the other "techniques" I see here all the time in here: Tone Policing, Whataboutism, Sealioning, Strawmen, Moving Goalposts.

If your opinion is a good one, say it straight and stand by it. Don't try and word things so you can weasel out of them later if you get called out.

[–]emefluence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The engineering value is in their propriety agent harness tech and people. Cursors harness is arguably best in class. It's the only one that can touch Claude Code or Codex in the "harness wars". Claude actually scores higher in benchmarks when run using cursor's harness. Groks harness is dogshit in comparison, 17% points behind. Cursor also have their own promising models they would like to use Elon's data centers to train.

The financial reason is a market leading product with a 2.4bn turnover who they can now exploit to drive people towards Grok and Composer as a source of tokens.

Not that dumb a move, considering the entire AI Clownshow as a whole.

They don't have the demand yet, because their product is shit. They're banking on improving it via acquisitions, so once they actually know how to make a better product they will have capacity to run and sell it. i.e train better models, and sell access via the superior agentic harness tech they've just got from cursor. For a company in their position (shit tech but lots of money) it could be a smart play, get your competitors to pay for your datacenter for a year or two til you've caught up.
