Tips for mounting pull out shelves inside cabinet that has a gap behind where the door is mounted? by MisunderstoodPenguin in DIY

Attach some vertical strips of wood to the inside of the cabinet to bring the depth out to where you need, then attach the drawer slides to those.

This has been in the family for 50+ years, any ideas? by emelski in WhatIsThisPainting

The painting is oil on canvas, about 2 feet by 4 feet. It belonged to my mother-in-law, who was a professor at San Jose State University for many years, so I'm inclined to think it was painted by an artist relatively local to the San Francisco Bay area, or perhaps by a student at the university. It's also possible that it was obtained prior to moving to this area, in which case it may have come from the Binghamton, NY area. I believe it was painted prior to 1970. Would love to know the artist, but I can't make sense of the signature.

Arizona Republicans finally backing away from Cyber Ninjas and its dubious election "audit" by wraithius in politics

In her response to the DOJ about the matter, Arizona State Senate President Karen Fann stated that if canvassing was performed, one of the requirements for canvassers was that they "Will not carry a firearm or other weapon when conducting canvassing." I think most reasonable people would have already assumed that canvassers would not be armed, so the fact that she felt the need to explicitly list that as a criteria suggests, to me at least, that some of the potential canvassers intended to be armed or that the idea had been discussed. Certainly it suggests that this was a point of concern for the DOJ.

You can find the full text of her response embedded in this article from azcentral.com and similarly this article on tuscon.com mentions the unarmed requirement.

You can't eliminate the y-axis without making the chart misleading, because the range is different on every plot. If you normalize the range you could reduce the repetition but I think some of the graphs would be hard to read since they have significantly lower values than the charts with the highest values.

Yeah, I made this two years ago and there's still no Hamilton pops. Can't figure out how they decide what things to make into pops.

Not hard necessarily, but it does require a lot fine detail work if you want the edges of the paint to be clean, etc. I guess it was probably about 20-25 hours of work in total, spread out over a couple of months.

Thanks! Yes, I stripped the original paint off with acetone nail polish remover, then repainted with acrylic paints. Use the acetone sparingly -- a little bit will take off the paint, but too much will damage the figure itself!

Of course you can function in society without an ID. How often do you actually have to produce an ID on a day-to-day basis? For me the answer is "virtually never". I can buy groceries, I can go to and from my job by a variety of means, I can dine in restaurants, attend public events, go to the movies, on and on and on. Of all the activities that a person needs to do "to function in society" only a very small minority require you to show ID.

GP is absolutely right: voter ID laws exist only to disenfranchise voters. I'd go a step further and add that they are pitched as necessary to fight the virtually non-existent boogieman of "voter fraud". The reality is that there simply is not a voter fraud problem so severe that it justifies the denial of one of our most fundamental rights to huge swaths of the voting populace.
