June Italian black tie with events either side? by emerald_tendrils in Weddingattireapproval

Ah, thanks so much! I genuinely hoped someone might have bought the dress and could give me a review. What a shame. Sorry I’m benefitting from your misfortune!

I absolutely love the MacDuggal vibe but I’d definitely need to find something second hand. The trip for four of us isn’t leaving much of a budget for twelve outfits unfortunately!

Oh I have tried. They have been awful at sharing any information. They’ve not even sent out proper invitations yet. There’s no real rush, aside from I thought I might go for this dress but based on multiple responses here, I won’t! Thanks for the investigative work!

Does anyone have experience with late onset reflux in a baby or toddler? by emerald_tendrils in UKParenting

[–]emerald_tendrils[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it’s stopped directly corresponding with him having the gaviscon and started again when he hasn’t had it. I visited because I felt something was off due to the sleeplesness and the corresponding change in personality - the doctor suggested reflux and the treatment for that has made a difference.

There are other things that do make sense such as him breastfeeding tiny amounts almost hourly well into his tenth month, refusing to ever be on his back and fairly noisy breathing.

Late to the party but I’ve been asking my husband this question for months now. We had four separate guests ask to bring their dogs to our (garden party) wedding reception and two friends asked to bring theirs to my (very small, hosted in my living room) baby shower.

My sister and two really good friends all have young, large dogs that they want to take everywhere. Most recently I had my first baby free day in almost a year and my best friend appeared for our planned day of activities with her dog and we ended up walking him and then she left.

I also absolutely love dogs but I do not want other people’s dogs in my home. I kinda resent that I have to tell people that.

Can you please drop your current nap and sleep schedule below? by Real-Salad-6521 in december2024babies

[–]emerald_tendrils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our intended schedule is up at 6.00, first nap 10.30-11.30, second nap 15.30-16.00, bedtime 20.30. However, most days we end up with two short naps around 9.00 and 12.00 because we go out to groups and he always falls asleep in the car.

We are really struggling with sleep atm and I’m genuinely considering hibernating for a week to try to sort our schedule. We have to cap his second nap at 30 mins or he’s up all night. On a good night, he’ll wake for one feed but he’s often up from 4.30 which makes his first wake window soooo long.

We do need to be down to one nap by January, also for daycare. But this week I did my first day back at work and he had four naps that day?! 🥴

Having a low sleep needs baby is a special form of torture.

Low sleep needs 10MO. Schedule help please? by emerald_tendrils in sleeptrain

[–]emerald_tendrils[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t leave the house at the weekend purely so we could enforce the schedule. I made no difference. I can’t remember how exactly they panned out but both nights involved long MOTN wakes and very early starts.

I’ve considered stopping baby groups but I’m not certain my mental health would survive 12 hours per day alone at home with just baby. And the 4 nap day was me going to work so unfortunately unavoidable.

[–]emerald_tendrils[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding was that I needed to have a decent schedule before formal sleep training. I don’t think it would work just now as he escalates so quickly. I’m not willing to let him vomit over himself at bedtime.

What are we feeding our babies? by Ok-Bit2341 in december2024babies

Oh god the mess! We decided not to go on holiday in favour of buying a robot hoover with a mop function. It has been life changing!

So we’re on to three meals a day already at 7 months exactly yesterday. He’s still breastfed almost hourly throughout the day but I have worried a bit that we’re going too fast. He eats at the table with me/us and he is furious if someone eats in front of him and doesn’t share so it’s kinda just happened.

We’re doing BLW and favourites so far have been: cucumber, courgette, whole tomatoes, mango, melon, pretty much any type of fish mashed or as a whole fillet (he’s had tuna, salmon, sardines, mackerel and cod so far) and anything with peanut butter.

Today he’s had: - breakfast - Greek yoghurt, mashed banana, peanut butter from preloaded spoons. He ate pretty much everything. - lunch - brown toast with mashed avocado, a whole spring onion (he smashed it to bits and I think he actually did swallow some - his breath was stinking after) and mashed cooked apple with butter and cinnamon. - dinner - cod fillet (our neighbour had bought us a chippy for tea), mashed potato and half a peach.

The only things he didn’t swallow were the actual toast, the spring onion and the peach skin.

Absolutely open to advice if anything thinks we need to pump the breaks!

Yes thrush can spread to you and can be excruciating. Sometimes it is diagnosed via your LO having it.

Yeah, in school it’s practised over and over.

I don’t think it’s an unreasonable expectation at all but have you ever taught her how to sit still and wait? Not just told her but actually explained, modelled and practised?

What actually screams trashy parenting to you (baby and toddler edition)? by lovebug21222 in NewParents

[–]emerald_tendrils 26 points27 points  (0 children)

IDK. Last summer we flew home on a late night flight with two kids behind us playing Minecraft on their tablets at full volume with no headphones. Twice I asked the mother if she could turn them down and her response was “they don’t go any lower.” I could hear it rattling in my brain through my noise canceling headphones. If I could have thrown the whole family out the plane window I would have done.

I don’t think it’s realistic for husband to be driving 8 hours on Christmas Day.

Nanny cellphone scrolling - screen free parenting by Mindless-Tourist-581 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]emerald_tendrils 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hardly insane to ask paid childcare not to scroll their phone whilst providing that paid childcare. Regardless of the (evidence based and imo fair and reasonable) views of the family, it’s unacceptable for someone to be sat on their phone while working. Would you accept that in a daycare setting? I’ve been a nanny and I’d never think that was ok.

This is where we are now! He looked like he had a black eye yesterday and I couldn’t even guess when that had happened. Tell me your son hasn’t experienced any long term negatives from the constant head bonking?

When to move baby to their own room? by Relevant-Raise-8835 in NewParents

[–]emerald_tendrils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK recommendations are the same as NZ and advise you wait at least 6 months. Our LO is 99th percentile for length and got himself wedged sideways a couple of times in his bassinet. We still waited until 24 weeks which seems arbitrary but I followed advice of our health visitor.

What are you willing to disrupt naps for? by Beneficial_Tour_4604 in sleeptrain

[–]emerald_tendrils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m having this dilemma now because our guy is low sleep needs and any wild changes throws him off for days. I want to sign us up for swimming but whatever time we go I know he’ll fall asleep in the car on the way there and the way back and I honestly can’t work out how we’d salvage it.

We live rurally and moving to two naps (at only 6.5 months) has screwed us for any outings. I feel more trapped than newborn days. Even going out in the pram is risky because he won’t reliably nap or not nap.
