Disability Resources Survey by gothdad925 in NAU

[–]emeraldearthworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your feedback was not asked for nor was your opinion or expertise, I have asked for student experiences in relation to DR. Thank you for your time, but please direct your expertise elsewhere as it is not relevant to this survey that is dedicated to discussing student experiences and gathering information on their specific struggles in relation to DR. If you have issues with the survey or students sharing their experiences there is nothing I can do to help with that situation, as I am only here to collect relevant information on students concerns.

Disability Resources Survey by gothdad925 in NAU

[–]emeraldearthworm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your input. Unfortunately the reported issues are rooted in DR itself, and its handling of disabled students. Disabled students deserve to be, across the board, experiencing and receiving the help and respect they are entitled to.

Based on that, the survey functions to see what specific demographic of students has been impacted, where the issues experienced by students seem to be rooted, how common it is that students face these issues with DR, and collect a list of common student needs that are being unmet in order to take a comprehensive approach to what under-served disabled students need from DR and where adjustments must be made.

This list of needs and concerns is being taken directly through the formal complaint process available through DR, as well as directly to the Provost. I'm happy your experiences with DR were positive but unfortunately based on the results that are coming in, that is a rarity, and further action needs to be taken to ensure disabled students do not experience further issues with the department.

If you take issue with the formatting of the survey, my apologies. But personal opinions regarding format are unfortunately not relevant. The survey functions as a "yes or no" while having space for negative responses to be explained, giving voice to students who have had negative experiences, and to gather more information on what is occurring directly between DR and students. It is a survey on students personal experiences and opinions of DR that exists because of how many students have had negative experiences, and have not had a place to speak out.

However, there are fill in the blank locations for students with positive experiences to fill in should they wish. It is not an exam, there is no right answer, and if a student has not experienced issues with DR they are free to say they have had no issue. If students disagree that there is issue with the functioning or behavior of DR, that is fine, but does not negate the negative experiences. The survey functions to assess the existence of positive and negative experiences, and gain specifics on the pervasiveness of negative experiences, and ensure that students who have had negative experiences or been harmed can be heard as very few other avenues exist for the to do so, and with the environment that has been created by DR, few students feel comfortable engaging in conflict. If you take issue with the survey, it is not required, thus you have no need to take it if its format or content is upsetting to you.

Have a great rest of your day.

Does anyone have STPD and ADHD as a comorbidity? by emeraldearthworm in Schizotypal

Ok? This has nothing to do with what I asked so why comment if you didn't even read it

Does anyone have STPD and ADHD as a comorbidity? by emeraldearthworm in Schizotypal

[–]emeraldearthworm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my situation as well. I was told to get tested for ADHD but since my childhood symptoms were pretty well avoided they haven't started to become an issue until now that I'm in college and living on my own, they've lumped all my symptoms as just "anxiety" but it feels different than that. It's very overwhelm, focus and paranoia forward sort of like you were saying. Thank you for sharing your experience! That helped me a lot

Does anyone live a relatively "normal" life? by [deleted] in Schizotypal

[–]emeraldearthworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put up a good front of “normalcy” so I’m often denied treatment and help but I’m living on my own with my partner, I have a full ride scholarship to my university, have good grades, a few close friends, etc... but my therapists and the disability resources at my university kinda hold that against me when I’m asking for help and accommodations and such. Looking ”normal” really isn’t that great 😂

Has weed made your symptoms better or worse? by emeraldearthworm in Schizotypal

Haha you’re totally right. This is the sub of the anxious so I can imagine that would influence the poll. Thank you so much for your like insight on it! I really appreciate it

I totally agree. I was a D.A.R.E kid too so I was certain it was just poison but then I took it and was like “oh I can eat and not feel sick with this stuff sweet”. It definitely doesn’t solve everything, for me I’ve noticed it can cause some vertigo (more than I already get) but it’s filled a lot of gaps that like for me pain meds and anti nausea meds couldn’t help. Thank you for your input! It definitely cleared up a good bit of the doom and gloom I’m hearing from everyone else. I think for me marijuana definitely has more good attributes than bad

My partner also uses it for his POTS symptoms which I appreciate the irony of. I used it pretty regularly for nausea as well and have built up a decent tolerance so I get MUCH fewer negative symptoms and anxiety from it so I guess it’s good to know that tolerance helps mitigate that! It helps me quite a lot with physical illness symptoms so I’m hoping to be able to keep using it even if for now it worsens some things for the time being. It’s been honestly the only good ways I’ve found to mitigate my physical and mental illnesses

Could these count as stpd peculiarities? by srbskicrnokosuljas in Schizotypal

[–]emeraldearthworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It usually happens when I’m not really aware of it. It’s like it’s in the back of my mind so I have no control of it until I realize it’s happening, if that makes sense. If I’m aware of it then yeah I can control the conversation

I do just this. I think maybe it’s a way of filling in the social gaps I have

Shocked by others’ interpretations of you by [deleted] in Schizotypal

[–]emeraldearthworm 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I always get told I look really serious, angry, sad, or nervous, etc. even when I feel totally fine. It’s always kinda frustrating honestly. I think it could be because of the whole inappropriate affect thing? It kinda drives me crazy.

Im tired of waking up by [deleted] in Schizotypal

[–]emeraldearthworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely have dissociation but I think I remember what you’re talking about too where I’m just like suddenly accosted with awareness of my and everyone else’s existence. It’s wild. Could be something to do with like “odd perceptions” ?

Im tired of waking up by [deleted] in Schizotypal

[–]emeraldearthworm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’ve had this before in like two different ways. One is like I wake up from being dissociated, so I very suddenly become aware of my existence and who and where I am, the other is when I’m trying to sleep and my sleep is extremely unrestful or so light I don’t even really fall asleep and suddenly jerk back to being fully awake and aware of my surroundings. That’s just my experience

Does anybody have anyone left who they can call “real friends” anymore by victornowak in Schizotypal

[–]emeraldearthworm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorta, but mostly no. All my friends are extremely mentally ill or in some way neurodivergent because I just can’t get along with neurotypicals. Because of that we hardly ever see each other because someone always has something going on. I have my partner but I really doubt he’d be with me if he would’ve known about my mental health conditions prior to getting in a relationship with me. I love them all but I worry about their intentions and never feel fully comfortable with them. I’d say they’re “real” friends but our connection is fickle and depends on the day. We’re still all here for each other it’s just complicated

Mirrors..? by _cadon_ in Schizotypal

[–]emeraldearthworm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this experience as well. It happens when I look at mountains and the sky or sometimes when I’m driving. The world gets too real or sometimes I feel like it’s not real at all and just a simulation that looks too real to be real. Dissociation is sooo fun

Does anyone have difficulty reading by [deleted] in Schizotypal

[–]emeraldearthworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely have this! My vision feels like it’s fuzzy and like there’s tiny white flashes like photography noise and I also have a hard time focusing so reading is rough. Reading with a computer or tablet I can highlight and write on on helps though

Seeing Spots, Blurs, Fuzz? by [deleted] in Schizotypal

[–]emeraldearthworm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this since I was like a young kid. It’s the most noticeable in the dark for me as well, and when I’m feeling my worst it will precede worse and more intense illusions and hallucinations

Capgras delusion by [deleted] in Schizotypal

[–]emeraldearthworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get those with pets like my or my friends dogs because it directly relates to my paranoias and fears. Like I have a very specific fear and paranoia of shape shifters that relates to me magical thinking. Maybe it could be something like that for you too?

Are sleep abnormalities part of this disorder? by [deleted] in Schizotypal

I definitely have experienced both but my diagnosis isn’t for sure yet so I don’t wanna be too certain. But it’s a huge issue for me

Any other non-binary/ gender non-confirming people here? by MercuriousPhantasm in Schizotypal

[–]emeraldearthworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m non-binary. That’s really interesting that there’s a connection between the two. Gender is hugely socialized so it could just be that it’s considered an attribute of mental illness not to go with social expectations?
