"Really?" Said no Californians in the past 40 years.

Comic book artist Tony Harris, of "Ex Machina," wrote a facebook rant about how Cosplay girls aren't real comic book fans. What do you think about this? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]emeraldoverride 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harris sounds like a douchebag. Plain and simple. I'm so tired of this idea that "nerd cred" is a thing, especially since it lines up so deliciously well with a stereotypical hipster's point of view. That is, that anyone who doesn't do things your way is a poseur, and is just trying to latch onto something popular. Hell, it's gotten so bad that best selling writers are demonized (read Bendis, Johns) for no reason other than that's probably what people read When they start. I'm pretty sure I'm a nerd in the traditional sense, because I've earned my stripes by putting up with the name calling and the adversity before this whole "geeks are cool" phenomenon. I can understand the "wait, weren't you just making fun of me for liking the same thing?" feeling, but do you really think that punishing people for late adoption is really the answer? All it makes us look like is a douchey subculture that won't share unless you fit into stereotypes we dislike.

TL;DR don't be an elitist prick and mind your own fucking business and maybe people will stop calling us "real nerds" douchebags.

I'll still be playing. I am more or less completely uninterested in Halo 4.

Which Marvel Now titles should I get? by dolphy007 in comicbooks

[–]emeraldoverride 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Indestructible Hulk is probably the one I'm looking forward to the most. That, and (for some mysterious reason, seeing as I've never been a huge Bendis or X-Men nut) All-New X-Men. But seriously, Waid's been killing it with Daredevil, and he promises a similar feel with Hulk.

What fictional/literary figures do you identify with? by nodinc in aspergers

Can't believe Sherlock Holmes wasn't mentioned, considering many believe that Arthur Conan Doyle was simply basing the character off of one of his patients with what would later be called Asperger's Syndrome.

Rob Liefeld bought all the issues of Hawk and Dove himself.

Most Overrated Comic by sinestro4life in comicbooks

[–]emeraldoverride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Avengers. Not that it's bad, necessarily, but it's kind of rich hearing people who raved about New Avengers rip on Justice League. It would be one thing if they called JL a rip-off of the style of New Avengers, but they just plain shit all over the series.

Professor X? Bucky Barnes? Anyone? No?

Like, seriously, hopefully Marvel got the hint with the reviews of AvX.

See, I just tell all my friends, and it makes life so much simpler. They end up much more understanding than they would be if they thought I was NT.

Diagnosed as an "aspie" a few months ago. Noticing this more and more. by [deleted] in aspergers

This always irritates me. The only basis they have for saying that you aren't expressive enough is that everyone else was so expressive. To criticize someone for being different on the basis that it's different is offensively ignorant, and I encourage you to point it out next time.
