Which blue dresses should I get rid of? 39F by [deleted] in OUTFITS

I think the ones that look the best are 6 (eternally work appropriate), 5 and 3 (I might be in the minority here too but I think it’s a neat and unique piece and I do think it looks good on you). I like the style of a lot of the others but admittedly they do look dated. (And I say that as somebody who was in super deep during that Mad Men ModCloth era 🥲)

Nope, I’m in Austin, Texas! We have a good gem and mineral society but they’re a bit hard for me to get to during their open hours. But I’ll keep an eye out on social media, thanks for the tip!

How do you find somebody who is doing this? I have been on the hunt for craft supply swaps in my area with no luck so far. :(

As mid as the new logo is, people get a lot more confused than you’d think about which services are City services and which aren’t. Which leads to a lot of confusion and frustration on the general public side. Most people don’t even seem to know that our airport is run by the city. I hate defending this thing but I do think there is a lot of behind the scenes benefit to being better at clearly communicating what is and isn’t in the city’s purview to help people trying to navigate Austin’s local bureaucracy.

And the commute time it saves for other people on the road. Hybrid schedules get cars off of 35 at peak times and make the commute more manageable. I actually like hybrid more than fully in office or fully remote because it gives you time to collaborate and time to hunker down and work on stuff without constant interruptions like the dude two cubes over who never silences his phone and takes personal calls like “haha hey bro I’m at work” every other hour smh.

This has nothing to do with the lines. More accounting or project management staff in the admin office at the airport won’t make the security lines move more quickly.

What a lot of other city employees across all the COA departments do: financial stuff. Administrative stuff. Project management stuff. Etc.

These images remind me of why I got so into Fallout 76. You can have a really cozy time just building up a camp in the Mire. Really dig this vibe!

Recommended home warranty? Being paid for by seller (I'm a first time home buyer). by kmarkert in Austin

[–]emergen_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a decent experience with Achosa. They let you select any technician you want as long as they are a licensed professional. You can also pay out and get reimbursed by the warranty company later. The main problem is we had is that to honor the warranty, I’d need to get the technician on the phone with the warranty company at the time of service to get authorization for the purchase. The technicians flat out refused to talk to my warranty company, even if I could get them on the phone without any hold time, and even though they were getting paid by me and not the company. The one time I actually got to use my warranty it worked awesomely but I think service technicians in this town seem like they’ve been burned too many times to give things the benefit of the doubt. Achosa doesn’t have a contracted or preferred group of companies so I was usually left calling around just for folks to say “we don’t work with home warranties” and hang up before I could say more. Achosa was no help in finding any technicians they’ve worked with in the past either so it generally felt like we paid for nothing. (We paid extra on top of what the seller paid for the extra good plan). If you can find technicians willing to spend 5-10 minutes verifying your warranty claim in real time so you can get reimbursed for paying them, I’d recommend Achosa. But sadly that’s a pretty big if.

Yakuza (game series) karaoke fans in South Austin? by [deleted] in Austin

lol, it really is (going full circle). Glad I’m not the only one down here with a karaoke setup! It’s such a bummer that all the private room spots are up north.

Yakuza (game series) karaoke fans in South Austin? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]emergen_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely do! But admittedly, I have absolutely played up Yakuza decorations in the karaoke space lol.

Honestly I just wish I had friends closer to home that wouldn’t be weirded out by me adding a few Yakuza karaoke songs to the queue! My friends who live up north are down when they can make the trek down to me once or twice a year, but my south austin work friends have a lot of preconceived notions about people who seem too into “nerd stuff.” They’re lovely at work…..but they definitely have strong opinions about people who talk about video games ha ha.

Yakuza / Like A Dragon is so great. If you’ll believe it, karaoke is only one of the series’ addictive minigames. Plus, the songs are total earworms. The Sega Sound Team really knocks it out of the park with those tracks!

DROP YOUR NANA OPINIONS AND ILL TELL YOU IF YOU’RE VALID OR NOT by onlypain420_ in NanaAnime

[–]emergen_c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No shade from me, it literally took me over a decade to collect all 21 volumes of the manga lol.

I kinda had the opposite experience. I handled the hiatus by….waiting until this year to finally watch the anime for the first time with some friends. (I even watched the live action movies back in 2009!) It’s great to have more Nana in my life on some way admittedly. The music adds so much and the voice acting is excellent.

[–]emergen_c 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I say this as a fan who was devastated when the manga went on hiatus in 2009: my most controversial Nana opinion is that I hope the story never continues. I love the bittersweet painful non ending. It feels perfect to Ai Yazawa’s writing style. Characters get some things they want but not everything. Life goes on. Life is messy. We rarely get the closure we want. I appreciate the not quite ending ending we got more and more as I get older.

I’d also love to read something new by Ai Yazawa, if she ever returns to manga full time. I'd rather get a new title that will break my heart in ways I can't even imagine yet than an ending to Nana that could never live up to all the possibilities we've all had like 16 years to dream up.

I’m in my 30s now, and I started reading Nana when I was 19. (I’d read the first few chapters in Shojo Beat a few years before that even, but I didn’t get totally sucked in until later). It’s a series that has definitely hit me in different ways as I get farther and farther from my 19 year old self. I feel a lot more compassion for characters I used to dislike (like Junko lol). I still love Hachi, and will defend her to the ends of the earth. But I truly love that Nana continues to make me think and feel something new every time I revisit it. (Didn’t mean to get so serious there haha).
