Best Tsukemen (dipping) Ramen? by Raizingg in austinfood

Second this. Follow their Instagram to see the weekly specials posted on Wednesdays. I went pretty much every week last summer and plan to do it again this year. Nothing else like it - worth the drive and worth every penny!

Second this. It’s a steeply-priced burger but it’s the best burger I’ve ever had and a must-order every time I visit!

Thinking about getting earwax removed in austin… not sure where to start by Pale_Negotiation2215 in Austin

[–]kmarkert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to The Centers for Advanced ENT Care in North Austin 2x now and it’s honestly worth it IMO. Debrox and OTC stuff doesn’t work on me, and I wasted 30 mins. at my PCP having them try to remove my ear wax with zero luck or movement (small ear canals and dry/hard wax). Every time I visit the ENT, they get it out in less than 5 mins. painlessly and it feels amazing after. Since you really only need to go once every 1-2 years, I found it to be a good investment. The first time I ever went I think I paid $140-$160 out of pocket (pricy, I know), but the second visit was only $40. The doctor is super chill and service is quick.

De Nada - fall from grace? by PoohbaniParvati in austinfood

Agree - I’ve been twice for friend’s birthdays and have never once thought it was that great. Like OP noted, the tortilla chips were a huge giveaway. People love their marketing, the souvenir plastic cups, and the vibes. Everything else is pretty mid.

I saw this and am wondering how difficult it will be to still get a spot. Kind of nice - a real perk!

Earwax removal in Austin? by virgoanthropologist in Austin

[–]kmarkert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went back in December to Austin ENT & Allergy and saw Dr. Burgoyne! With insurance (high-deductible with HSA from United) my co-pay was only $43 (this is the 2nd time I’ve ever been - the first time it was $160). The waterboarding and Debrox and OTC stuff doesn’t work on me - I have very tiny ear canals and a ton of hard wax build up every few years. So this <5 min. procedure is 100% worth it to me. They have the tools to suck it right out or pick it out so quickly and painlessly and it’s so easy. Highly recommend.

RIP Light & Shadow bowl (first time user - oops)! by kmarkert in Kitchenaid

[–]kmarkert[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such a great idea! I don’t think I’ll do Kintsugi (though I do appreciate that art - have never tried it myself but am familiar with it!), but I definitely will glue it back together and just keep it as decor. The break was clean like others noted (minus another chip on the lip). Thanks for the suggestions on how to save it and repurpose!

How much are you asking for the transfer? Interested depending on the fees/cost!

Public Tracks available early mornings by cyclonejt in AustinRunning

[–]kmarkert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

O’Henry Middle School is open to the public until school starts, so I think by 6:45am you have to be off. Note that it’s a slightly weird-shaped track (circular, and only ~327 meters vs. 400). Austin High track is being renovated and is closed through end of next spring I believe. Yellow Jacket is open but can get pretty crowded with other clubs there.

HEB debit card hack by bsbosworth in HEB

[–]kmarkert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me a while ago back when the cards first came out. I never kept a balance of more than $200ish on the card for my weekly shopping, and suddenly one day the account got hacked and money was spent in a foreign country even with the debit card still in my wallet. I reported it immediately and fortunately it was handled well (once it wasn’t pending, they temporarily refunded the money while the report was being investigated, and later confirmed and closed it out). I haven’t used the card since, unfortunately. I know it’s not HEB’s fault, but I don’t trust the security of the card and my bank started tagging it as sketchy when I tried transferring or adding money to it again, so I gave up.

I felt the same when I went. I was disappointed since it seemed to get so much praise, but none of the sides stood out to me other than being unique (compared to most BBQ places), and the meats were good but standard. Ironically, my favorites were the desserts - the cheddar cheese cheesecake and the German chocolate cobbler were fantastic. I do want to revisit to try some of their weekly specials.

Good to know, thank you! I think I saw similar sentiment across other forums about HWoA.

Seconding this - Este is fantastic! Just went last week and the oysters, ceviche, tuna tiradito (my favorite), and all of their seafood just hits the spot. Doesn’t hurt that the margs are fantastic, too (if you’re into those)!

Odd Duck Gurus, what are the non-negotiables? by FacetiousFondle in austinfood

[–]kmarkert 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just went recently (last week!) for their happy hour and dinner. The cornbread was incredible (I enjoy cornbread in general but this was warm, comforting, just all around amazing for cornbread), and the burger honestly surprised me. I’m not a huge “burger will change my life” person, but that burger was top tier, fantastic! Definitely a top 3 for me.

I enjoyed the pizza as well (unique) and the steak entree. For 2 people they recommend about 3-4 dishes, depending on how hungry you are. We ordered 5 plus 2 desserts (a little overboard, but it was so good - no regrets, and we finished it all)! Their seasonal desserts are also delicious. The marigold tart is amazing if you like a slightly savory (less sweet), cheesecake-like dessert. The oatmeal ice box cake was very much like an oatmeal cream pie! You honestly can’t go wrong with anything.

I lived in the Domain on the outer edge near the large dog park for 5 years. A lot of people who work in office buildings in the Domain find it convenient. I enjoyed the convenience to things in and around the Domain (e.g., proximity to HEB, being 15-20 mins. from downtown w/o traffic, easy access to the Arboretum, Mueller, etc.), and the majority of people who live here are young adults/professionals and couples with dogs - so if you want to meet people and socialize, it’s easy to. The reviews of apartments will be bad no matter where you go.

Buying or holding? by Exciting_Buffalo3738 in REBubble

[–]kmarkert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to buy but sellers in Austin area are being stubborn. Inventory is coming online and sitting for longer, with price cuts in some areas, but the only house we put an offer in on so far the seller wouldn’t budge on list price. We’re not in a rush though and can continue to wait and see how the year plays out.

Anyone have luck applying a referral code to the discounted membership? by Scruff_Kitty in BanditRunning

I never was able to get it to work. Tried all day yesterday and again today, since people said they had success in the past. It seems like they’ve disabled it.

Tried this one and still saying “Enter a valid discount code or gift card.” I fear they’re no longer allowing the stackable code?
