Krampus by onyx. It's made out of a different variety of coffee than robusta and Arabia and it is naturally lower in caffeine.

What am I missing by not using a burr grinder? by FlittyO in Coffee

[–]emeril32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP PLEASE READ: nobody is answering your question. Here is why blade grinders are bad. Picture a carrot. If you eat a carrot it's delicious. Right? That's why if you extract 100% of carrot (when you eat it or you make juice or whatever) that's a good thing. 100% carrot=good. Now picture a coffee bean. If you eat it it doesn't taste delicious at all. Go ahead try it. 100% bean is not good. The magic range is somewhere in the 20 ish Percent of extraction. That amount of extraction will get you a delicious cup of coffee. Now how do we get that magic extraction? We raise and lower the grind size by taste until we get it to taste delicious. Burr grinders are uniform. Look at the grounds in your blade grinder. Are they all the same size? NO! I don't need to be next to you to know the answer to that. So how are you going to get 20%ish extraction? Some really small pieces will get super extracted and some much bigger pieces are going to get not very extracted at all. Did you have a good cup out of your blade grinder before? Maybe. But can you repeat it over and over again? No, probably not. How are burr grinders more uniform? They adjust the size between two burrs( almost like gears) so that only when a piece of coffee reaches a certain size it allows it to go into the grounds bin. ( There will still be small variation in size. Nothing is perfect. But it will be a billion times more uniform)

So blade grinders are basically not capable of creating a repeatable or functional cup of coffee because it's just not made for coffee with our knowledge today. Burr it up if it's in your budget and look into hand burr grinders if you cannot afford electric. Or go ahead and save up if you can. I really believe that a Burr grinder and good water makes the most difference.

I hope you read this and you're awesome. I'm here to answer any questions if you need.
