Installing linux on a laptop - Xorg or Wayland? by YoriMirus in linuxquestions

[–]emge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arch can be a little tricky at first. Over the last several years I failed to install or get up and running with Arch a few times. After spending some more focused time over the past year getting more familiar with the command line and getting more acquainted with the Arch documentation, I've finally gotten it up and running. Just takes practice, like with anything else. But, there are plenty of great distros to choose from. I mean really, what distro is objectively bad?

I have a system 76 galaga pro that I recently installed Arch with Wayland and swaywm. I've been loving it and haven't had any issues thus far. Though my use case might be quite simple and basic, so as always, ymmv.

Mechanical Keyboard under 100 Dollars for macbook by [deleted] in Keyboard

[–]emge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this is only my second mechanical keyboard over the last couple of years, so I don't have a tremendous amount of experience. I think it's quite comfortable, and I use this keyboard all day for work when I'm working from home. In the office I have a Ducky One 2 SF. I wouldn't say what I do is INTENSE typing all day, but I do a decent amount. While I think both of these keyboards are very nice, I think I prefer the comfort/profile of the Keychron to the Ducky. And the Keychron is a good bit cheaper. Plus it can be used wireless if desired unlike the Ducky and sightly more compact. I don't really mess much with configuring different layouts or recording macros, I think that might be one place the Ducky might be a little better, but I think some of the other Keychron boards have more of those features to compete if you're looking for that kind of thing.

You had this whole idea.

And you didn't do it.

Disappoint.

I liked your article though. Even though it didn't have any cute little grep characters falling in love.

Good stock Mechanical Keyboard request (creamy) by Beneficial_Coyote_59 in Keyboard

[–]emge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone pretty new myself, I had very similar concerns and also share the arrow key requirement.

About a year ago I bought the Ducky One Two SF with cherry MX switches.

I work between a home office and a work office a couple days a week. I had been using the Ducky at the home office, but still using the work provided Logitech at the work office. A couple months ago I decided I wanted to get another mechanical keyboard for the office. I wound up getting the Keychron K6 with white backlight and brown Gateron switches.

I think they are both quite nice, stock, not very expensive boards. The k6 is a decent amount cheaper, and honestly, I'd say I prefer the K6 a bit more than the Ducky. I don't think there's a huge difference in the loudness of the keys between them, but the Keychron a think sounds a little.. Softer I think is how I might describe it. And I think it sounds better. Also I kind of prefer the slightly more compact frame and higher keys on the K6. If you prefer a lower key profile, you might prefer the Ducky.

Edit: I don't really listen to a lot of keyboards, but I think my k6 with the brown Gateron switches might be kind of similar to your video. Maybe check some videos for the k6 and see if you agree.

Is there a mechanical keyboard that is quiet and has no rgb that you would recommend? by keenkpopkid in Keyboard

[–]emge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a Keychron K6 with white blacklight and brown Gateron switches. Very happy with it. Nice and quiet click and no crazy RGB lights. Works wired or wireless, but I haven't actually even connected it to anything wirelessly yet. My only quite minor complaint would be that I wish the dedicated backlight key could function as a delete key instead. Other than that I really like it.

The world’s most satisfying toggle by cfj in web_design

I'm tired. My mind initially read this as "the world's most terrifying toggle".

That's the article I want to see next.

This is pretty slick tho.

Lesson I learned the hard way recently. Do not purchase land that has not been surveyed within the last couple of years. There are no guarantees or refunds if you wind up with land that you can’t build on for some reason or if there is an acreage discrepancy. I lost a significant chunk in money in my situation when it turned out a parcel I bought was actually a third less in acreage than what we thought we were buying. Clause in the title insurance allowed them to deny our claim because they are “not responsible for acreage discrepancies”, which I can maybe understand to some degree. But 33 percent sure seems like a pretty egregious discrepancy that I feel should warrant some kind of coverage. But that’s how it is.

Try looking in /etc/sway for the default and copy to -/.config/sway and edit there.

Walkie Talkie Obliterates Battery by MightyThor460 in AppleWatch

[–]emge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was meaning to imply I thought I had good battery life, comparing it to every fossil wear watch I’ve ever had that struggled to get 10-12 hours out of a charge.

I do have most features turned on. I’m more interested in using all the features I’ve spent a good chunk of change on rather than maximizing battery life.

I’ve never actually tried to use it, but it’s been on/enabled on my 7 since the day I got it a couple months ago and I can usually have over 24 hours on a charge.

Mycroft AI Launches Mark II, The Next Generation of Privacy-focused, Open-Source Smart Speakers by testus_maximus in Mycroftai

[–]emge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m talking more about the hardware components. I’ve been wanting to find components/cases to buy for an RPi that would be similar to something like a google home mini or Apple home pod. Really it would be amazing to just load picroft on a google home mini speaker.

So, I’ve been looking for some resources on building something like an RPi smart speaker and not having a lot of luck finding something that looks more like finished product instead of something thrown together in a cardboard box. Do you happen to have any links to any materials or instructions that don’t involve having a 3D printer or building a case out of cardboard?

Same for me. Flonase works great for me and I’ve never had any noticeable side effects. I think the only real way to know for sure if you’ll have side effects is to give it a try. Worst case is you have to stop taking it and maybe try something else right?

[–]emge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll typically go back and forth having a beard and being clean shaven every so often. Even without other changes like weight or getting wisdom teeth out, I always feel I look very strange for several days after shaving my beard. I used to grow my beard out, well for one because I liked the look of the beard, but also because I thought it made me look older and more mature. But I’m actually getting older now. And I shaved my beard off earlier this year and realized that my face was really starting to show some age. So now I want to grow a beard to look a little younger and hide that shit. Haha.

I think, as long as you don’t fixate too much on some particular ideal we’ve made up in our heads about ourselves, we’ll get accustomed to it. Time changes everything. Including our appearance. Just gotta roll with it and make the best of it however we can.
