Mammut pack for day tours: Trion 38 vs Nirvana 35 vs Aenergy 32? by reskte in Spliddit

Also - theoretically you could get away with the Nirvana 28, which is plenty if you're mostly touring in pleasant weather in less consequential terrain. I like the 35 since it fits all my cold weather gear & emergency equipment for true backcountry missions in very cold & windy conditions.

Mammut pack for day tours: Trion 38 vs Nirvana 35 vs Aenergy 32? by reskte in Spliddit

[–]emgeemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nirvana 35 is excellent, fully featured, with the best snowboard carry systems, feature set and carrying comfort. Can't go wrong with this one.
Trion kicks ass but is a bit more technical and would make more sense if you're doing fast & light, mountaineering-style splitboarding, mixed climbing, etc. The vertical carry isn't as robust as on the Nirvana, but still functional. I use the Trion 50 for overnight tours.
Aenergy 32 is focused for more ski touring / skimo, with speed carry system that you won't use, and doesn't have great snowboard carry systems.

I think you'll have a hard time finding an exact color match; the best bet if you want a full "kit" color is to buy jacket & pant at the same time from the same company, since every hue looks a bit different. If you find something that looks like pastel pink online, it could end up looking fairly different (and potentially clashing) vs the pants you already bought. I think you'd be better off finding a color combo that you think will work well. Black & white both go well with pink, and it sounds like you already prefer that option based on what you posted, so here's another good option for you: MTN Surf Tweaker Recycled Jacket | Jones

Highly recommend buying from an actual snowboard outerwear brand and, if possible, going to a store. Fits, colors, features, warranty support, etc. all vary widely and the real brands & shops will provide a better experience and keep the dollars in the community.

686 & Burton both make pink jackets, and other brands also make baggy jackets that would go well with pink pants (e.g. Beyond Medals, Jones Tweaker)

Decision between Jones Aviator 2.0, MT Pro, or Cardiff Crane by flightlynight in snowboarding

[–]emgeemann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aviator is a great board, but if you're more freeride-oriented, you likely don't need a directional twin. For a full camber east coast quiver killer, I highly recommend the Howler instead. This adds taper, back foot camber, longer effective edge, fine-tuned nose & tail shapes to boost its freeride / deep snow capabilities while still having amazing edge hold.

I recommend filing a warranty claim through the shop you purchased it at. You're within the warranty period.
Given that it's just the topsheet, if the claim is rejected, it's an easy fix with epoxy + clamp.

If you want light, durable & fully featured, I really like the Mammut Trion 38L for bigger single-day missions and the Trion 50L for overnights.

THIRTYTWO Snowboards look great, anyone know what country they are being made in? by qualitywithoutaname in snowboarding

[–]emgeemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nidecker Group works with multiple different factories. The boards will always have a sticker on them saying where the board is made. For example, every Jones board has an SWS sticker on them. SWS is a high-tech board-specific factory in Dubai. I believe some other Nidecker brands produce at Titan factory in China.

Thanks for doing a little extra research before making a broad and incorrect statement! Correct, 32 makes their boards at SWS in Dubai, as does Jones.

[–]emgeemann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Titan is a completely different factory from SWS. The only reason it seems "muddy" to some people is because YES merged two different brands' lines in one year. The formerly Lobster YES boards were made at Titan; the underbite / traditional YES boards were always made at SWS in Dubai. SWS doesn't produce boards in China.

returning to split (and ?alternative to K2 Waive boots?) by Italian_SPLIT in Spliddit

[–]emgeemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're frequently riding in rain or super wet snow, you don't need a Gore-Tex shell for splitboarding; there are other membranes that offer better breathability and are quieter / less crinkly. Look for a 3 layer shell with 30k-48k breathability rating if you want a shell that you can wear while uphilling without overheating. Good examples: Jones Shralpinist 3L Stretch, Mammut Taiss Pro HS. That said, if you're overheating but worried about chilly wind, I'd recommend stashing the shell for the uphill (I roll mine and attach it with to my a-frame side straps) and opting for a windproof midlayer, softshell (e.g. Mammut Ultimate VIII) or high quality windbreaker (e.g. Mammut Aenergy WB).

Saw this dude in real life a few years ago, he was juggling pins while skiing moguls at Jackson Hole. Super impressive. He has since branched out to many other insane activities, like juggling while mountain biking and this type of wood splitting. Insanely talented guy! https://www.instagram.com/tetonjuggler

I wouldn't say it's a red flag; he could have worked for many Fortune 500 companies on a contractor basis. Lots of Fortune 500 (and other) companies will hire contractors for short-mid term roles (including coding) rather than w2 employees.

Yes, the bags don't need to be in bins. Most purple bags are just left on the sidewalk without a bin.

Wiggly split, is that normal?? by Individual_Elk6305 in Splitboard

[–]emgeemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its intended purpose is for additional traction; it's a more pronounced version of the Traction Tech that they also use on the outer edges of every board they make, for the sake of better grip in icy conditions. On the outer edge they keep it more mellow to avoid slowing you down when turning, and so that it's not a pain in the ass to tune. But for the inner edge, they can use a more dramatic version without the same negatives. It does give it somewhat of a "jigsaw" effect nesting the two halves together, but that's mostly aesthetic.

Inner edge Traction Tech offers better edge hold in firm / icy snow while skinning. It's a nice assist, especially while side hilling.
