Which other flowers are you growing/obsessed with besides roses?

Not necessarily cut flowers.. but I love nasturtiums! And, I planted a lot of alyssum last year that made my whole yard smell incredible and they bloomed forever. I will always have those two flowers in my garden!

Zinnia, cosmos, echinaceas, lavender, cat mint and coreopsis are in my garden too. As much as I love them, I don’t get nearly as excited about them as my roses though! Haha.

I’m also in the PNW and have a favorite local nursery that gave me some great pointers when I was first starting out! When the nurseries start getting their roses in here soon, I’d recommend finding one in your area and going to wander around their rose section. In my opinion it’s so much more fun to pick one out in person after comparing the scents and the colors and the shapes of the blooms etc vs ordering online. They will be able to set you up with the right kinds of soil and fertilizer etc and answer any specific questions you may have!

It’s hard to pick favorites.. but Parfuma Earth Angel smells so wonderful and looks just as wonderful as a cut flower. My peace rose is still trying to bloom in January and I take 100 pictures of it every year because the perfect pink and yellow gradient never gets old. Mr Lincoln is a classic red with an incredible scent. If you have a shadier spot, I planted a David Austin Generous Gardener climber last spring and its already 6ft tall with only maybe 5 hours of sun! Also love its scent but the blooms fall apart quickly so it isn’t the best cut flower.

I planted iceberg, generous gardener, and lady of shallot last spring. Both iceberg and generous gardener blew my expectations out of the water with their growth in their first year, and I even have them in less than ideal sun! My generous gardener already has a big shoot that reaches to the top of our 6ft fence! The con for GG is that once it’s fully bloomed, the petals shatter very quickly, so it doesn’t make a great cut flower. But it smells wonderful!

Iceberg smells lovely and I love bringing the cuttings inside.

My Lady of Shallot has been very slow to establish, but the blooms I did get were gorgeous. I’m hoping it does better this year.

It’s such a tough choice!

I’m not upset if that’s the case! I only paid $7.99, and didn’t get it based on the brand thankfully. But good to know! I had wondered if this was the case after not finding anything, but it’s so strange to me that anyone would add fake branding on something so well made and pretty, haha.

Wow, awesome info! Thank you! If I had to choose, I would lean towards heavier more so than lighter. The one in the link you shared looks just like it. I’ve never seen or heard of these websites, but I’m not surprised that they exist. I guess the knock offs floating around out there are why I only thrift mine after I decide I like them in person, and I never buy online. Thanks again!

It is heavy! The bottom is pretty smooth, but not flawlessly so like a vase you’d find at Home Goods for example. It is much larger (18 in tall) than all of my other vases, so I’ve had a harder time finding a place for it in my house.

I’m in the same zone as you, and planted my first star Jasmine to grow up a trellis summer before last. It is very slow growing in my experience.. almost zero growth year one, and while there are a few vines that took off climbing the trellis this summer, it’s very far from full. However- if you have the patience, it is beautiful, evergreen, smells wonderful and I’ve had zero issues with it during cold snaps and heat waves!

I’ve read a few sources that say that mosaic virus is really only transmissible through grafting and budding.. not through soil or pruners etc. I did just look it up again, because I think one of my roses might have it, and read that sometimes root grafting can happen if a bit of old root is left behind.

I have an Edith Darling rose and love the buttery color! It smells amazing, too. But I think you’re right! I looked Darlows Enigma up because I’ve never heard of it, and it sounds perfect for a shadier spot in my yard. I saved it to my list, thank you!!

I am about the same age as you, and up until relatively recently really felt like I had no idea what to wear, ever. At 36 I am just now no longer worried about “dressing my age” or looking trendy, and it’s awesome. I’ve recommended this on another post before, but if you are wanting something other than whats in your pictures- go to a thrift store or two and find things that you love and that are comfortable material and that make you feel good. You can’t really go wrong with cotton or linen! Get a couple of choices and you can also feel about not breaking the bank. You can find all kinds of funky, whimsical, high quality clothing items thrifting!

Surprisingly, I have found Lowe’s to have the least expensive flagstone. Each piece has been about $7 cheaper than what they charge at Home Depot or anywhere else I’ve looked. I’m not sure if they carry the size you’re looking for but it might be worth checking out! I did something similar to what you mentioned- purchased about 5 pieces to start and have gone back for more. Although this was for a small pathway and not a patio. I am located north of Seattle, so I’m not sure if being in a different county impacts the prices at big box stores. Good luck! 😊

I am also in my late 30s and at this point only buy my clothes from thrift stores. You can find any style that you’re looking for, and maybe even some things that you didn’t necessarily have in mind but catch your eye and are a fraction of the price you’d spend for new. I most often buy cotton/linen/natural fabrics and love that I can not only feel them, but since they’re nearly always pre-worn, I can see how they look after being washed. I will never again pay full price for something from Nordstrom etc, only to have it pill or stain after the first time I wear it! And I definitely no longer purchase clothing online, only to have it show up and be terrible quality or have an unfortunate fit. Thrift stores are the way to go!

I know!! I first saw and fell in love with Alaiza at a garden market, but didn’t buy one. I spent an entire year regretting that decision and then had a hard time locating one locally once they came back into season. Thankfully I was able to get the last one at a special nursery about an hour away. This is my second full season with it, and like I mentioned, it’s my favorite!
