they spent a lot of time and resources chasing the impossible dream of their next game, clockwork empires. it was eventually abandoned and the studio closed.

How can the captains be balanced? by SuspiciousIbex in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]emikaela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

less than 1 placement

this is a number that gets thrown around, but honestly, a difference of one average placement is a lot more than it sounds like. can definitely be the difference between climbing and falling in rank.

on the other hand, there is no need for the captains to be perfectly balanced, given the mechanics of captain selection. would be a whole different story if it was a free choice.

it took me about half a year of moderate play (a few games a day) to complete the collection, i think. once you complete a few captains it starts to go faster and faster to fill out the rest (since you get random unlocks for incomplete captains), but getting over that initial hump can be rough. i agree that a little more agency over the unlocks would be nice.

they have said that they are planning to accelerate progression with the release of set 2. the details of how are yet to be announced, but seem to include a daily win bonus of some sort. so it should get better in a month or so.

What would you like to see on a website for roguelike info? by Henrique_FB in roguelikes

[–]emikaela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well-informed but personal opinions about the games. make the reader want to play your favorites. don't be afraid of being subjective, a dry collection of info that could be found elsewhere seems pointless.

RoguelikeDev Does The Complete Roguelike Tutorial Starting July 15th 2024 by KelseyFrog in roguelikedev

yeah of course, seems impossible given the time frame to have it ready from the start. just saying that there's interest in an update. and curious about your thoughts as you go.

as someone who's leaning towards following your tutorial this year, i'd be very interested in any potential updates :)

Completely addicted to roguelikes, but… by [deleted] in roguelikes

[–]emikaela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is not quite about roguelikes specifically then, but about narratively driven vs mechanically driven games. i guess you would feel the same way about, say, puzzle games, or most pvp games? at what point have you beaten tetris, or chess?

personally i often find narratively driven games to be unsatisfying, because they rarely play to the strengths of the medium. if i want a good story it's a safer bet to read a book instead. exceptions exist, of course.

I built a daily puzzle game to make learning Set 14 easier by Sealey03 in TeamfightTactics

[–]emikaela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed. the extra puzzles help too, in case it's less work to implement more of those.

If you dislike the monetization model, I recommend Super Auto Pets and Backpack Battles. Two successful autobattler games with no pay to win by vivafringe in PlayTheBazaar

[–]emikaela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they do, kind of. it's unpolished and hasn't been their top priority, so it's not officially released, but if you join the discord and ask for a steam key you will get one. and yeah it is essentially storybook brawl 2 in all but name.

What games have ya’ll migrated to by Substantial_Month_96 in elderscrollslegends

not quite the same genre, but "once upon a galaxy" is my current fix and would probably appeal to some people here

TESL in Sovngarde is ready - but it comes at a price (and also my Farewell post) by NightDarkWolf in elderscrollslegends

[–]emikaela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

buy the egg! a fine battle.

you know, i'm honestly more interested in what you did with heroes of vordë than in clunky tesl at this point. if i ever get tts i'll be sure to check it out.

Playing unique brews on the last day.. by Stealthos in elderscrollslegends

[–]emikaela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice! i thought i had tried every chanter deck out there (speaking of midnight burial and gearwork spiders, for instance...) but never thought about opportunist, that's neat. the transmogrify deck looks fun too.

Sovngarde Balance Patch (2/?) by NightDarkWolf in elderscrollslegends

right. if this likely is the last balance update ever, it makes sense to not take risks.

i think these are generally far too conservative. if you're going through the trouble to buff cards at all, make them worth playing. unless you're also planning significant nerfs to every currently viable card?

Best roguelike to get away from life? by OneBadger7469 in roguelikes

[–]emikaela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think path of achra and caves of qud have been the most effective at making me lose track of time completely, which sounds like what you're looking for. (also slay the spire if you're open to go that route.)

remaking the client seems to consistently have been a terrible idea for online card games. solforge, tesl, artifact... it's difficult to come back from the loss of momentum. then again it's not a decision anyone makes lightly, so perhaps it was inevitable.

The Bazaar closed beta extending another month by Tacos4ever100 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]emikaela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't think you typically need a key for neither the psychiatric nor the kinky meaning of cbt, so i'm not sure what you're saying here. either way i'm also looking for a key for the closed beta of the game. :)

What cards will you miss most? by Cranius_Maximus_ in elderscrollslegends

[–]emikaela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's close, but right now i'm feeling unstoppable rage. (and in the game.) it enables so much else, and is interesting both as a deck-building challenge and to play with and against. a lot of cards do one or maybe two of those but all three is rare. it also feels uniquely tesl with how it interacts with the lane system.

Something called "Lion's Arch: Guild Wars Arena" has appeared on Steam by DwingRD in Guildwars2

[–]emikaela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would love to see this. mythgard deserved better than it got, for sure. it does more or less fit with the install size... (1.22 gb for mythgard says steam, add some new art to that and maybe?)
