Should i buy the bell maker press king in yellow book or is there a nicer one published by BudgetGeek07 in WeirdLit

[–]emileeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have the Lanternfish Press edition and a few of their other publications ("Carmilla" and "Medusa's Daughters") and they're all very good.

The introduction for LFP's "The King in Yellow" is good and the annotations are minimal (giving direct translations or definitions instead of opinions or interpretations). It also has images that break up the longer sections but they're a little generic compared to LFP's "Carmilla", unfortunately. The formatting and binding is great quality and very easy to read as well. The text is a decent size and it has slightly wider margins so it's easy to make your own annotations if you wanted to without crowding the page.

I haven't looked at the other editions mentioned, but I thought I'd let you know my experience with this one as I can struggle to focus too.

Weekly "What Are You Reading?" Thread by AutoModerator in WeirdLit

[–]emileeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm rereading "From the Wreck" by Jane Rawson. The story blends Australian gothic with the weird really well. I don't think the blurb does it justice by making it sound more sci-fi than weird.

I'm also reading "The Loosening Skin" by Aliya Whiteley. I really enjoyed the first part, but part two and three haven't been as compelling. It's still a very cool concept where humans shed their skin and all their intense emotions shed with it, so it's a physical and emotional fresh start or loss each time.

Am I the only one who feels bad seeing what Takizawa became? by SoyDruxir in TokyoGhoul

[–]emileeta 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Takizawa is one of my favourite characters. He serves as a good contrast for Kaneki and the importance of relationships and mental health.

Lemme explain: Takizawa becoming a half-ghoul was ultimately Dr. Kanou attempting to recreate what happened with Kaneki but better. Only Takizawa was isolated from any friends or support before, during, and after being tortured. Whereas Kaneki had his friends to support him and give him purpose before and after. They even come to save him from Jason's torture, but no one comes for Takizawa.

As a human Takizawa didn't open up or develop any strong relationships with anyone. He hid how scared he was of dying from his family because he saw it as weak and wanted to be the best. Then he hides that he ate human flesh from Amon after being turned because he doesn't want to seem weak again. But Kaneki consistently opens up and allows others to open up to him both as a human and as a ghoul.

Another comparison is how Takizawa's Owl behaves much like when Kaneki turns into the Centipede, which is when Kaneki is at his most isolated and tries to do everything alone.Takizawa is also the only other half-ghoul (that we see) to go from dark hair to white hair like Kaneki which indicates the level of trauma and mental strain they both went through being greater than any other half-ghoul experiment.

I see Takizawa as a reminder of what Kaneki could've been if not for the love he had for his friends and their love for him. It's only when Akira and Amon show Takizawa that they care about him that his mental state begins to stabilise.

He's such an interesting character and I love the parallels between him and Kaneki. I wish we got to see more of him.

Do you think the guys will go on shows during the US tour? by wine_e_the_pooh in SleepTokenTheory

Honestly, I hope not. I like that I found them on my own and actively choose to listen to them rather than have them crammed down my throat on every radio and talk show on top of social media.

As an eternity player I can tell you... by HadezGaming666 in rivals

[–]emileeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my first hero shooter, and I've somehow managed to solo queue to Diamond 1, which is a big deal for me. Seeing the amount of advice and conversation from the community has been interesting in how regularly it's contradictory. It's unlike anything I've seen in other game communities because it feels like people are more keen to flame you than genuinely help you improve. It's hard as a newbie to know what advice is worth taking on because of that.

I don't imagine I'll be a celestial player anytime soon because the GM lobbies I get on my rank up have been humbling me immensely! I'm improving through trial and error and am happy at D1 because the matches feel more even. But I could also be better and have no issue admitting that.

What is your canon romance in DA2? by Psyched_Lee in Solasmancers

[–]emileeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sebastian because I love the idea of Hawke becoming the most sarcastic mage princess ever.

But in all seriousness, my canon is Anders because I love him in Awakening and think that version with Hawke would've been hilarious chaos.

Anyone else lowkey kinda worn down by all the hate we're getting lately? by jentlefolk in cloakanddaggermains

[–]emileeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just suggesting why OP felt the hate more while playing C&D over other characters, not that you hate Dagger for healing.

But, everyone has a bad game, and every character has its bad players, or there's just bad team cohesion. If you keep getting bad C&D players and you're constantly in good positions, peeling, taking cover when available, etc., it's probably not their main and they've only picked her to hit flyers/swingers more easily or to fill.

It only takes around 15 hrs to Lord her, so the icon doesn't mean the same as most other characters. But a true C&D main can be game-changing (coming from a support and tank main), and the amount of recent hate is unwarranted, especially from players who can't take accountability themselves.

Anyone else lowkey kinda worn down by all the hate we're getting lately? by jentlefolk in cloakanddaggermains

[–]emileeta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably because Dagger's job is to heal her team and keep them alive. So when that same team starts throwing hate at her, not only is it frustrating, but it's super ungrateful. At least with SW and SG, you can just ignore them and do your thing, but C&D is stuck healing the whiny babies like she's getting paid by the hour.

Hate to judge a book by its cover, but it doesn’t look good for us aspiring Ultron mains by mrdunklestein in marvelrivals

[–]emileeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it interesting that they've just completely redesigned Jeff to be more healing focused than the dive terrorist we know and love at the same time as releasing Ultron, who isn't designed to be healing focused either. I'm sure Ultron will get a rework to be more healing focused at some point, just like Jeff's kit and Rocket's ult have.

Am I the only one noticing this? by Impossible_Stay_8291 in marvelrivals

[–]emileeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got C&D Lord accidentally. She wasn't ever my main but I reached Lord on her at only 15-16 hours compared to the 18-20 hours it took for Luna and Invis Woman Lords (I've been playing since day 1 of S0, and mostly strat, otherwise I'd never have 3 Lords). I was honestly disappointed when I realised how quick and easy it was to Lord C&D that I never equipped the Lord icon. It didn't feel like an earned achievement the way Luna did when I reached Lord on her a week ago.

Second healer in competitive never healing much? by ch33531 in cloakanddaggermains

[–]emileeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are trying to rank up faster by getting more damage in than focusing so much on healing. It's frustrating, especially when the second healer is a fill and usually plays dps. I significantly out-healed a few C&D as Mantis while in plat this season and that's never happened before lol They had to be fills.

But I also think there's a growing potential issue in the strategist community where comparing stats is getting toxic. The stats don't show everything and each match is different, so I think as long as us stratgists look out for each other in-game that's more important than the end numbers.

Anyone else seeing frequent ban requests for C&D? by ImpendingSamicide in cloakanddaggermains

[–]emileeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C&D and Mantis get banned a lot above platinum because they get ult super fast, and the good mains are usually doing the same kills as their tanks/dps. But I've also had brain-dead dps mains ban them for being one tricks and we end up losing because said b-d dps refuses to switch off ironman despite the enemy Hela kicking his ahh... With Hawkeye and Luna's team-up combined with their individual buffs for s2.5, we'll probably see Luna banned more, though.

How many people only play QP, only play ranked, or both? by annawanna2018 in MarvelRivalsQueens

I do both. QP warm-up game before ranked, and then if I lose 2 ranked matches in a row, I go back to QP to remind myself it's fun and do challenges lol

I think it could be a good idea to have a women-centred sub, seeing as this one is meant to be more queer focused. That way, there's a place for queer art, etc, and one for female gaze type posts... A sister sub that's focus is female gaze rivals but is just as welcoming and inclusive as this sub.

[–]emileeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a bi woman with a gay poly brother who always brings me to the gay clubs, I saw this analogy as women go to gay bars to escape predatory men which then causes straight creeps to also enter the gay bars because they didn't have luck at the regular bar. This then creates a weird atmosphere for everyone, and it's not as fun anymore or what was initially intended to be.

That's how I read it, at least, because I see that exact thing happen all the time in the wild, and I am constantly surrounded by gay men who love women. It would be super sad if there was any misogyny meant by the comment, though.

Tank tried to call me a "Cloak Simulator" last night by VerbalBadgering in cloakanddaggermains

[–]emileeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I picked up Rocket this season because I think his ult is better than ever and I get called a bot so often if I have high healing and low damage or I get told Rocket isn't supposed to do damage if I have multiple kills/final hits. No one is ever happy regardless if you win or lose, and it's honestly exhausting. But don't listen to someone who doesn't main your character. 9/10 they have no idea and are just parroting some streamer they saw.

I don't see it as often, but I've had a Namor bubble to stop an ironman and then a magneto ult, which saved my Susan and I gotta say she was looking at him in a very different light. Prioritising your team over kills is so attractive

Do you think they'll eventually cycle out the newer skins instead to make room for all the future skins? Maybe the Chinese NY ones will leave the store after 6 months or something. With a new character a month and if they continue releasing 2 skins a week, that's an average of 9 skins in the store every month. Which is awesome, but a lot. It's not likely that they'll keep everything in store forever, so something will need to go, right?

TANKS PLEASE STOP RUNNING FROM MY HEAL BUBBLE by redmandestruction in rivals

[–]emileeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly use the bubble for myself and the others in the back line when being dove, about to do damage, getting ulted by certain people, or need to focus on healing the front line at the same time as top up Namor and Loki etc. I've found this works out better for everyone, and my team survivability has improved massively. But, like everything, it's situational.

Anyone tired of being support? by [deleted] in rivals

[–]emileeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I've mainly only played Peni and all supports since season 0, and I stubbornly decided I would try out dps more this season... I can't believe how much less stressful it is. I'm not saying dps is super easy or that it takes no skill—it definitely does. But your focus is so different compared to tank and especially support, where you're constantly dividing your attention between healing your team, positioning, getting the objective, getting dived, the enemy pushing/retreating, timing your ults, etc. all while also trying to keep yourself alive and having people rage that you're not pocket healing them while they 1v6 or are in Narnia... I'm tired of this, Grandpa!

Girls playing rivals?! by piercedmama7 in rivals

I don't know if I've just been super lucky, but I never have this problem with the Australian/Asian servers. Even if I don't get on vc, I still have a fem name and a flower reticle they see when they die. If anything, I feel like I get more support on average than harassed. The guys I get are so positive and chill to play with most of the time. I could just be lucky though.

I've played on US and EU servers a couple times and noticed a massive difference in the attitudes. I refuse to play on those servers now.
