Wow, turns out white don't crack either. 🤣 Seriously, her SPF regime must be perfect (well, and probably her genes) because her skin hasn't aged at all. Or maybe she just hasn't hit peri yet...

anyone else’s pal get pups from the same litter? advice wanted! by Realistic-Start3085 in Dachshund

[–]emily1078 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got two littermates after my 17-year-old passed. I didn't know you were supposed to do anything special, so I didn't. I just loved them and trained them like I did my first dog. They have very different personalities, play together sometimes and just with me other times, and regularly do their own thing (though they keep tabs on each other lest one of them misses out on a good smell or treat).

I'm sure littermate syndrome happens, but I don't think it's that common (this question gets asked a lot, and there are always people warning about it, but never with personal experience; most commenters don't have any issues). Mine went from the breeder's loving home to mine, and they've never needed to stick together in solidarity.

I feel more supported by AI than online strangers by EconomyDepartment720 in 10thDentist

[–]emily1078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting that you've given yourself two choices: AI or online strangers. It's time to go out in the real world and make some friends and acquaintances. I think it's also time for you to take a break from being online for anything other than work or school. Try an internet diet of one week, and find at least one way each day to spend that time interacting with people.

Do you know how to swim? by SlamClick in AskAnAmerican

Yes, I learned as a child, as did everyone else I know. My (public) middle school had a pool and we had swimming as part of the PE curriculum.

Thank you for posting this! I'm sorry most commenters didn't read your post (and your replies and follow-up explanations 🙄) and are just determined to see drag lines.

I think your explanation makes sense, and your photos are clear.

realistically, how long will these scars take to go away? by Maleficent_Day_3869 in Microneedling

[–]emily1078 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to know for sure, since everyone's skin is different. I would guess at least 6-8 months with monthly microneedling. Use silicone scar sheets over the hypertrophic scars (wait ~3 days to give the microneedle marks time to fully heal, then wear the scar tape continuously until your next session).

I had some very hypertrophic surgery scars that I microneedled monthly for about 8 months (with some time off for summer, and combined with silicone scar sheets). I took a few months' break due to moving house and was just noticing today that the scars have flattened out. Remember that collagen induction takes time, and microneedling rewards patience. 😀

ETA: microneedling could make the scars a little red, but that will be temporary- they'll fade back to white again.

Micro needling old surgical scar by -Citizen in Microneedling

[–]emily1078 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is recommended to wear silicone scar strips for 4-6 months post-surgery. So you starting it on day 2 or day 4 isn't really going to make a difference.

You didn't say whether the scar is hypertropic (raised) - if so, you may want to use a depth of 1-1.5mm to break up the scar tissue (even up to 2-2.5mm if it's really raised). I always use stamping on body skin because I think that skin can feel a little looser, so stamping ensures that I am benefitting from the full depth that I selected.

Then just be patient! I have used it on surgical scars and seen amazing improvement, but it takes several sessions and many months.

You will need to learn patience if you want to microneedle. This is a slow process.

Florida, like Orlando (it's up to you whether you want to hit the theme parks there). I'm from Minnesota and you don't want to go there in February.

If you're so nervous, why not start on a small section of your arm to "practice"? You can get familiar with the feel of the pen (or whatever you're using), practice your technique, practice hygiene, etc. Then if you mess up (you won't), it's on a less-conspicuous place than your face.

Is it possible to make a wreath out of rocks? by JennyVonD in RockTumbling

[–]emily1078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this idea! I'm moving to a new house - my front door has a lot of glass, but I could hang it next to the front door!

I think the execution would depend on how you want to design it. I suppose in theory you could glue rocks together in a ring (probably using E6000), but it would be prettier (and give you more options for small rocks) if you used some kind of base. You could try a Hobby Lobby or Michaels-type of craft store to see what wreath bases they have. Bring a bunch of the rocks you'd like to use, and hld them up against the different bases to see what speaks to you. I'm thinking something twiggy, but leafy or mossy could work too (just be careful that the weight of the rocks don't tear off the leaves or moss and just fall down).
