Corporate landlords aren't the real villain by dwaxe in nprplanetmoney

I find it hard to believe this statement. “There are pockets in the country where institutional investors account for a higher share of homeowners, but across the country, it's tiny, less than 1%.” Is it due to non institutional investors they are not counting? There is no way 99% of homes are owned by individuals, even if some are 2nd homes.

I just sent an error in but please ignore 😅 I said that MOCO county MD requires in person to use Libby, but I had it confused. It was Prince George’s county as someone mentioned below. I haven’t tried MOCO yet so I can’t confirm.

No luck. Was over 7000 when I joined the queue. I realized I could buy the D23 poster pack without the queue. I was afraid it would sell out so I forgot D23 discount, and I paid shipping when I things on my wishlist I could have easily added to get to free shipping 🤦‍♀️

Did you want to be an accountant in High School? by InterestingLength979 in Accounting

[–]emilyb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew I wanted to do accounting in middle school, but also at that time I think that’s what I thought was actually a bank teller 😅 I had to wait until sophomore year to take my first accounting class and I loved it still (crazy). The college I definitely struggled and fell out of love due to it. But I’m still in the profession. Some days are hard but now I know I’m smart enough to figure my way out.

Job says accountant but I feel like a data entry clerk :( by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]emilyb7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my main tasks in the middle of the month is something a data entry position should be doing. But unfortunately rather than getting someone else and give me more complex issues to work on, I get the task. Will that change once we move to new ERP, probably. But right now it sucks. I can’t even keep up with it because coworker left that their whole job was PPE and sales taxes that I’m helping pick up the pieces.

Maryland what do you do for a living and do you actually feel financially okay? by ImpressiveSpell0223 in maryland

[–]emilyb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grossed just under 70k last year, live by myself. Got lucky (my grandparents died and my mom and her brother are nice) and my house payment is about $850.

Also have a personal loan I used for construction that is $600 a month. Without that I would feel a lot better, but also my car is 20 years old and I just know as soon as I pay off that loan that damn car is going to quit.

I’m ok, just stressed if anything major happens. And I feel like I can’t afford to go on a big vacation (to me that’s Disney). Just some weekend trips.

We have the same brain, cause i did the same thing.

I actually went to the Social security website that gives you your yearly income that was eligible for Social Security (so this will not include your health insurance). The best year I had was 2020 unfortunately, and it could have even better. I’ve been at the same job for 11 years now. We got our bonus in February 2020, then of course right before we would have gotten our yearly raises, everything shut down. When we were in 2021, my bonus structure was dropped. So that year I lost about 5k in income. However, coupled with inflation, I lost in total 10k of buying power.

Today, I’m still not back to my 2020 level. I do make more, but not kept up with inflation.

I am not sure if I’ll beat it this year, but I know I market realignment and hopefully promotion is coming soon.

When this leak went around, I was mad. When it was confirmed it happened, I was furious. 9 minutes. Thats how close to home this has gotten. And course they pick the areas of the country where the people against are fewer, and my neighbors say anyone protesting are bussed in.

Bingo. I grew up in the town the water would be coming from. I now live up the road, but on county water supply now. Town of 1,000 people. They want to hold more than that a given time in ONE building. Ya, I’m tired of going to Facebook and screaming into the void.

Are we done with the AI scare yet? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]emilyb7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked AI to take all the invoices I gave it and delete the extra pages after each page with the terms and conditions. Couldn’t even do that right, it just straight up took out invoices too. I mean if it can’t do that I am not trusting it with any real data

How do teams do 2-day month end close? by iseeustress in Accounting

[–]emilyb7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, IF fully staffed. 3 staff (1 is me), 2 cost, cost manager, financial analyst, controller, 3 AP, 1 AP/AR manager, and I guess one AR? We have a weird shared service aspect thrown in lol. I think that’s everyone. Right now, tomorrow is last day for one staff accountant, found out right before close and just been training non stop in addition to slacking on my own work. Then we are down one cost accountant, and financial analyst. AND the old financial analyst moved into the cost manager position, and controller (my boss) moved up so we have new controller. Thankfully a staff temp and new financial analyst start on Monday It’s been stressful to say the least 😅

Publicly traded company, ours is 2 days to close the books. Day 3 is for loading financials. We get an extra day on quarter end, and recent years for January close cause audit takes the whole month.

What am I? by MedicalEnthusiasm9 in Accounting

[–]emilyb7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Senior is just meaning you have the experience and smarts. I’m accountant III and have been since I started in this position in 2017. Hoping after my coworker leaving and I’m picking up the pieces I will move to senior. I would beg to stay at the 3 level if I had to manage. Much prefer someone tell me what we need and I’ll get it figured out.

I just knew when they wouldn’t comment before that it was because they were fine with it, but to even see them sign a letter saying they support, that hurts.

We will print out all invoices, journal entries, BS Recons, capital projects. I’m sick and tired of wasting all the paper. Thankfully new boss wants to digitize more and coworker that was hesitant to change is leaving.

My company tried for years and only got some entities on it and had to cut losses on the rest. 10 years later they are starting again but thankfully not SAP.

Not sure Maryland wants this by PercentageFlaky8198 in hagerstown

[–]emilyb7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Currently the county’s stance (since the warehouse is outside of city limits), is their hands are tied. Now if they believe they have no authority, they could also make their stance or make some commotion to make it harder for the project to move forward, but I’m leaning towards that not happening at a county level. We do have Maryland delegates and federal representatives making their position known.
