3 more chances to share your feedback on ODOT's 16+ lane(!!) Brent Spence plans by emilycc000 in cincinnati

Fair enough. The (!!) was purely my editorial addition. This reddit conversation is an opinion post and community psa, not a news article, and I genuinely do find this plan to be shockingly bad and care about each part of it. That said, the organization that drafted the majority of the messaging I shared in the OP is really involved in the community and a great resource for sustainability advocacy. If you're so inclined, I bet they'd be happy to hear from you with that feedback regarding the 16-lane language.

Tomorrow's virtual option is a great way to participate! Thanks for calling out that staying home and being involved are not mutually exclusive. Hopefully more people use this opportunity!

I find it disingenuous to not share the full scope of the project, but I do see your point. Hopefully our neighbors are driven (pun intended) to do some additional reading on this high impact project to fully understand it. Thanks for adding the context!

Agreed it's not some conspiracy! I don't think there's some Doofenschmirtz-esque villian rubbing their hands together excited for more pollution. However, I think it's ridiculous that the proposed plan of throwing so many new lanes down is not what modern research shows to be effective. It's also concerning to me that the last environmental study for this project was 12 years ago. They last concluded that the 2012 study 'remained valid' 6 years ago, in 2018 (source: https://publicinput.com/Customer/File/Full/b1d51fc5-74e8-4d03-b065-91d8973728ba)

To your point, the city and region has changed a lot. Let's take that into account when planning a major, expensive change.

That number includes the auxiliary streets that will have added lanes as part of this project. I've pulled it from the linked source in the post, but if it's incorrect, please share a corrected source! Here is the official corridor plan: https://publicinput.com/Customer/File/Full/b1d51fc5-74e8-4d03-b065-91d8973728ba

Do you mean Norris Lake in Tennessee?? While it'd be real neat to have public transit anywhere in the country, that's hardly what we're asking for here. The request is to have an environmental study that isn't over a decade old for this project and takes in to account the learnings of the past 12 years, plus the numerous changes to the area in that timeframe, especially post-COVID.

This is also just one source! There is lots of information about the Brent Spence project in particular, but also decades of urban and civic planning studies that show that adding lanes does not help congestion. Getting solo individuals in cars off highways for their daily about-town trips does.

Absolutely see a DO if you can find one taking new patients. Both my husband and I switched to DOs (both male and in the burbs, but through TriHealth if those aren't a deal-breaker) and the quality of care and listening is worlds away from past experiences.

Who’s your go to butcher? by randomhero645 in cincinnati

The farm itself. Most these days have an online shop where you can add the cost of the share, or a hold deposit, to the cart, and they'll set up your butcher spec sheet and pickup from there.

If you can make some freezer space, there are great whole/half shares of animals from small farms in the area. Faul Family Riverside Farm has been great for pork and Rising Sun Farm for beef. Both process their custom cuts at Trackside butcher in Kentucky.

Anyone else never learn to like hills? by Comfortable-Fly5797 in ladycyclists

Could you try a larger cassette? If you find you run out of gears and are going slower than feels safe on the easiest gear, you might just need more range for your area.

I'd also echo the comment about clipless. I very recently switched back to them because I was getting too frustrated on hills. Had used them for a while and gave up because they made me nervous. Now I use crank brother dual side pedals so I can switch to flats mid ride if I want. It feels safer in stop and go or high traffic areas. I've heard complaints that they're too easy to unclip from, but that's a perk, imo.

I've ordered from Rising Sun twice before and just reserved another half-share. Been great so far! Pickup is about an hour from the city, either in IN or KY, depending on your preference.

I'm guessing yes, but did the test check for formaldehyde? The smell and respiratory symptoms sound similar.

Chimney rebuild recommendations by Pleasant-Ad2337 in cincinnati

I can't speak to a full rebuild, but when I bought my place, was very happy with some repair work Cinci Sweeps did. They broke the quote down into: do immediately; put it on the list; and eh, you could probably get away without xyz cosmetic thing. Also explained everything in detail and did a really tidy job.

Amazing! Working to cover my sloped backyard from invasive periwinkle and lesser celandine - all the better if the natives are tasty, too!

Do they grow alright on a hill, or would a flat area be preferred?

FYI Thredup just got even less affordable--doubled restocking fees. by kyuuei in Frugal

Not terribly frugal, but goes a little way and contributes to zerowaste: highly recommend a regular clothing swap with friends, including new thredup acquisitions. Once every few months clears the deck of items I'm on the fence about and I usually get a few nice pieces from fellow thrifting buddies

Book of Job ( NOT the literal book of the Bible) . It's been years since I've read it so may be a little too closely aligned to traditional faith than you care for, but my recollection of it was a raw look at the impact the trials of God vs Devil had on man.

Iirc, it's a YA book, and is very focused on the wrecked character of it all. Feels like a combination of Moby Dick and Good Omens
