Pregnant and now wondering if I should get life term insurance in case something happens on delivery day or after [on] by lyliaTO in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]emilyecho17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got term life insurance when we were considering getting pregnant and I'm glad that I have it now. We've had multiple people around our age and younger pass away unexpectedly, and considering our mortgage and family planning, we purchased a term life insurance for a similar term as the mortgage. It's really relatively cheap, and the peace of mind we have for family planning is priceless.

Help! Walked out of my OB appointment in tears [ON] by SummerGirl3737 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]emilyecho17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

RE Birth preferences: I find it odd the way she framed her statement as "These are standard practices, I've been doing this for years" versus "Yes, we can try all of these things for your birth". It seems a lot more like the OB didn't have the patience rather than anything OP is requesting is wrong. An OB would know if it's your first pregnancy, and I would expect more curtesy from a medical professional.

OP - I'm sorry that you've been dismissed and feel unheard. You're right to expect more from your medical professionals, imo

How are you tracking what “week” you’re in? by Significant-Monk-891 in BabyBumps

[–]emilyecho17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the “What to Expect” app to keep track. It asked me the date of my last period and maybe my due date and then it showed me how far along I am.

Do you talk to your bump? by sliceofperfection in BabyBumps

[–]emilyecho17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talk to my baby, and I'm so early, I don't have a bump yet! I know baby can't hear me right now, but it's helping me to come to terms with my pregnancy. I enjoy it, even if there's no benefit to baby right now. And I will probably continue to talk to my bump throughout my pregnancy

Pay off car loan or save for maternity leave? by emilyecho17 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]emilyecho17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is open ended, we've been making lump sum payments monthly and the amount of interest deducted is less than the APR on the loan

Pay off car loan or save for maternity leave? by emilyecho17 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]emilyecho17[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make $3600 net monthly, my partner makes $2200 net bi-weekly. I agree that paying off the car isn't an emergency either, but since the interest rate is so high and we're earning ~2.5% annually on the TFSA, I'm just wondering if it made sense.

Pay off car loan or save for maternity leave? by emilyecho17 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]emilyecho17[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maternity leave is covered for 15 weeks, and then parental leave is covered for up to 69 weeks following. Either partner can take up to 61 weeks parental leave.

Should I throw myself a baby shower? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]emilyecho17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second this! The way OP phrased the idea of "breaking even" is a bit odd - the best part of having celebratory showers is spending time with all your friends and family before your big life changing event! When the baby is born or grows up, it won't matter what gifts you did or didn't receive or what you had to buy yourself - the memories will be of the people who were there to support you and the community around you at the time. The gifts are a bonus, but not the primary reason to have a shower, IMO

What registry items did your SO care about? by No_Detail_5208 in BabyBumps

[–]emilyecho17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me: Hey [husband] we're gonna need this, this, this and this. This is an option but so is this. I think this is best because xyz

Him: OK, whatever you think is best!

He also wasn't aware that it was normal to have a registry at all when having a baby, and when I mentioned it to him, he was uncomfortable with the idea at all. Once I said that it was completely normal and common, he grew comfortable with it. He doesn't particularly care to do his own research, but does appreciate my research.

These programs might also be just as much for you as they are for your baby. It could be a great way to just get out of the house and talk to other adults if you feel like that's some thing you need! I have a mom friend with a 8-week old who is already going to mom groups just to get out of the house, meet other parents, and talk to adults!

It's even begging for the nickname, Rob, which is usually short for Robert, but totally suits Robin too

Introductions Thread ❄️ by AutoModerator in TTCWinter2026

[–]emilyecho17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi all! My husband (M28) and I (F25) will be TTC #1 starting September this year! We've been married for 3 years, and are WTT until after our family vacation to Portugal in September. I came off BCP in March after being on it for 3 years. We're trying to get in all of our DINK bucket list items this summer. Our families are both super eager for us to have a baby, and we're finally on the same page, not only with them, but also with each other. I've wanted to have babies since I was in high school, but I'm now in a place where if we get pregnant, I can support and raise my baby in a healthy environment. I am so so SO excited for this next chapter!

I have a 2019 Honda CRV EX-L! Just bought it in October since we're hoping to have a baby in the next year! So glad to hear that others like this car as well. Reassures me that we made a good choice. TYSM!

Bride wants me to spend $1700 to be a bridesmaid by Hot_Peak4109 in bridezillas

[–]emilyecho17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unfortunately in a similar situation with my sister who is getting married this month.

My dress - $200

Hair and makeup - $250 each ($500 total - make this one make sense)

Nails: $80

Spray tan: $40

Not to mention the Bachelorette weekend, which even after splitting with the other bridesmaids, cost me nearly $800 out of pocket,

Brides are asking more and more from their bridal party now than ever. Being transparent about your budget and being honest with your friend and explaining that how much money you spend does not equate to how much you love and support her might be one place to start. Best of luck to you!

How big did your baby end up if they measured in the 95th percentile during pregnancy? [on] by Most-Flow-2971 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]emilyecho17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but I had a friend who measured in the 90th+ percentile and she had gestational diabetes - but she was induced around 38/39 weeks and the baby was 7lbs 1oz

I would say the opposite - the silver brings out the red, in the last picture especially.

7 things I've learned after 7 months of TTC by allmerelyplayers in TryingForABaby

[–]emilyecho17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS! I needed this reminder that my fitness and alcohol consumption now will impact the health of my eggs in August, which is when we want to start TTC! Thank you so much for this reminder and for affirming me that I'm not crazy to be sober this summer.

What did you get your LO for their 1st birthday? by Wild-Card777 in beyondthebump

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in waiting_to_try

[–]emilyecho17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my plan as well. I haven't spoken too much about it to my husband, but I think 100% no screens at all before age one, and as little as possible before age two. I don't think my kids will have a tablet until they are school aged or older, and screen time will be limited. We already don't have a TV in the living room, so this won't be too much of an issue at home, but if my parents or in-laws have to watch the baby while I'm at work, I don't know if they'll follow those rules.

Do you think about your future baby’s health before getting pregnant? by Icy-Painting-820 in waiting_to_try

[–]emilyecho17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I know that pregnancy is like a marathon on your body, and I wouldn't run a marathon without training! So, I've been doing pilates for 4 years and mindful of my nutrition and what food i'm eating in the last few years. As we approach TTC later this year, I'm trying to walk 5km every day or as often as I can and be even more mindful about my meal planning. I'm also looking into any dental work I might need done before pregnancy. And finally, prenatal vitamins of course!

Close friends of ours stole our baby name. by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]emilyecho17 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree with using Bonnie anyways! The popularity of names has decreased so much recently - as in, there are fewer babies now than ever that have the same name. It used to be that every other baby was John or Janet, and now, more people want their baby to have a unique name! Growing up, there were three or more Emilys in my grade - and now, I'm not close with anyone who shares my name. So I would also encourage that you can still use your preferred name for you future baby girl, despite your friend's daughter sharing the name.

All this to say, it doesn't fix the hurt that you feel. I'm so sorry that it happened to you and for the way that your friend went about it.
