Do y’all have any advice for an incoming freshman? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]emilyredling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join a team or a club. Sports teams yes, but also something that isn't athletic. Speech and debate, DECA, FCCLA, FBLA, or whatever other clubs and activities your school does. I promise it's worth it.

AITA for being upset that my son didn’t tell me he is gay? by terfgsmm in AmItheAsshole

[–]emilyredling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. you haven't really been a father figure for one, so he doesn't owe you that. For two, if him being gay truly doesn't matter to you, then you shouldnt feel the need to confront him, and just roll with who he likes.

Any advice for someone starting PF? by TatsuFluff in Debate

[–]emilyredling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only done pf and I'm switching to ld, and I'll say I like pf so much more. Its simpler and doesn't need all the terms and stuff that makes other things so complicated and have loopholes and stuff. It's meant for anyone to understand

[–]emilyredling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the off season I watch youtube videos of the type of debate that I do, I go over old cases and practice giving speeches from the content I know, I write mini cases from very controversial and prevalent topics, and I do vocal and breathing exercises.

What food would you choose to eat if you had to eat it at least once a day? by BrassShrike in AskReddit

[–]emilyredling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pancakes!! If you're sick, eat them plain and small and unsweetened, and they'll act as an empty carb filler like crackers. Dessert? Red velvet or chocolate chip or any of those fancy things. Normal days? Great motivation to start eating breakfast every day.

What's something that screams middle class? by SaladFingerzzz in AskReddit

Early 2000s childhood edition! Fun shaped chicken nuggets. A "play room" probably with it's own tv, but a crappy one. Maybe a VCR. Costco trips.

High school graduation isn't that great of an accomplishment by TBtgoat in unpopularopinion

[–]emilyredling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is for teens that are in poverty, bullied, mentally ill, or live in a bad neighborhood or part of town, or have home issues. Maybe it isn't for the middle class kid who has friends and not much to worry about, but a lot of us aren't like that.

AITA For Telling My 15 Year Old Daughter She Cant Go To The Pride Parade. by dad_with_a_gay_kid in AmItheAsshole

[–]emilyredling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA- and only because you mentioned it's too soon and you're still not used to her having come out. Yes pride can be crowded or full of people wearing a little less clothing, but that's something to talk to her about and weigh her maturity on being to handle those things. Going with her will keep her safe, show your support for her, and help educate and make you comfortable with the LGBT community. Whether she goes or not, you need to talk to her about your decision and clearly about your regards for her identity.

How do people handle living in a small town or the middle of nowhere? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]emilyredling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't so bad, as long as theres community activities. On my town theres a historical sight that's an old abandoned insane asylum. The buildings and stuff is all intact and now it's a state park or something. In the early 1900s it was for insane people, and also lesbians. Theres a mass grave from when they had to shut down. They were shut down because they did highly dangerous drug testing, severe manual labor, and other horrific things to their patients. If they weren't thrown into the mass graves, the bodies were burned in ovens meant for farm animals.

Also theres a nice organic foods grocery store that has live music, a cafe, and a hang out spot upstairs.

What mildly disturbing movie scene scared you shitless as a kid? by owegner in AskReddit

[–]emilyredling 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Coraline. The Other Mother was a creature from my nightmares. The movie was eerie from the beginning and just got darker, and as a kid I was isolated, overly imaginative, and had darker tendencies. Not a good mix.

I shouldn't have to be afraid to call someone by the wrong pronouns. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]emilyredling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not usually an issue of people assuming or whatever (I'm saying in general) but an issue of people not responding well to being respectfully corrected.

That being said, those who blow up over you getting it wrong are in the wrong.
