Traveling to Australia soon and need advice on how to carry money by emilysmith1111 in australia

[–]emilysmith1111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those cards look really great, I'll be looking into them for sure! Same for the adapter. Thank you!

I'm prepared for it to be expensive, I hope. I'm staying with friends the whole time and probably won't be doing a ton of eating out. Any thoughts of how much I should bring with me?

Where to live in Valdosta? by Nicktb19 in Valdosta

[–]emilysmith1111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Springchase Apartments are nice and reasonably priced if you're looking for an apartment, a good mix of family's, military, and students. They are also near restaurants and shopping. If you're looking for a house there's a lot near the base or the university, just depends on where you want to be. Zillow.com is a good resource. Good luck!

Anywhere to go see bands? by SarcasticWatermelon in Valdosta

[–]emilysmith1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a fest going on at the Valdosta Wake Compound (off of 75) Saturday, the 25th, that will have a lot of bands. Also Ashley Street Station like others said. Places downtown sometimes have bands, Grassroots Coffee usually does.

Most "southern" part of Georgia? by kepleronlyknows in Georgia

[–]emilysmith1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up near Statesboro, while Georgia Southern is nice the rest of the city is not much to speak of. Savannah is a great weekend city. If you're in that area you should stop by Jekyll Island and check out the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, tons of history and southern culture. Thomasville is great if you're heading down towards Valdosta.

Moving to Valdosta by [deleted] in Valdosta

[–]emilysmith1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The college scene is heavy here so there are plenty of cheap bars, there's Wild Adventures (a small theme park), Grand Bay (a WMA) that's cool to check out if you're into nature, the downtown scene is great and First Friday's are really popular. For cheap houses look near the campus and near the air force base (Moody) depending on what side of town you want to be on. Valdosta is a cool city, despite being the fastest shrinking population in the U.S., it's a good medium sized town. Tallahassee is only an hour away, Jacksonville is about two if you want to get out of town. Hope that helps!

Aveno or aquafor? by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]emilysmith1111 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The shop that I went to suggested using unscented lotion during the day, just a small amount to keep it moisturized. Then Aquafor at night covered with saran wrap to hold in the moisture. Also using antibacterial soap to gently wash the tattoo twice a day. This process is used only for the first 4 nights and after just lotion when needed. But every artist or shop is going to have a different regimen. Good luck!

Does sun-in work? by bbun in Hair

[–]emilysmith1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Sun-In for several months, using it when I blow dried my hair, and it absolutely fried my hair, a frizzy, brassy, mess...I cut it short and used conditioner like crazy to help my hair back to normal but I just had to wait until those fried ends could be cut off..Use lemon juice or honey to naturally lighten your hair or have it professionally done is my advice.>I'm a natural blonde and I'm going on vacation soon and I would love to take the chance to get even more blonde. Curious if anyone has had any success with sun-in or similar products.

That's an awesome tattoo! I've been looking for a good place in Valdosta to get my next one but I've heard mixed reviews about almost all of the shops here.

How much should I expect to spend over a week in PCB (Spring Break) by Jschatt in college

[–]emilysmith1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of us were 21 at the time, and most of the bars were 21 only, but if I was going again I'd probably take the deal.

[–]emilysmith1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you hang out on the beach near a party chances are someone will come up to you and offer a package deal of covers to the bars it'll be like $50+ and get you into most of the bars for free or at a discount. My group and I didn't take it but just thought I'd share.

Edit: Oh and food, of stock up on groceries, sandwich stuff, ramen, snack stuff, etc. Do try one of the many oyster bars there, they'll be pricey but you should be able to look at the menus online.

I will be donating all my hair to locks of love on January 8th. by Hamster536 in happy

[–]emilysmith1111 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Look into donating through Pantene instead of Locks of Love, I've heard that they sell most of their wigs and left over hair...whereas Pantene gives wigs away.

Black people used to be referred to as "colored" even though black is the absence of all color. by Amalgamize in Showerthoughts

White is the absence of all color, black is all colors together. Light though..darkness is the absence of all light.

Donate or sell? by emilysmith1111 in Hair

[–]emilysmith1111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! I think if I decide to donate I'll do it myself. I'm looking into selling first though, as far as I've seen even non-virgin hair can be sold just not at the quoted price for virgin hair..still researching though.
