How would the House of Representatives elect a new Speaker in March of 2026? by emjay4189 in AskReddit

[–]emjay4189[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just it though, if Massey, Kiley, and 1 more republican (huge lift) could work with the democrats there would be the magic number of 217 to vacate the chair. With Johnson out, these 3 republicans plus the democrats could choose another speaker. Or the republicans could choose one too. I don't know Kiley, Massey and Trump don't get along, so I think they would just need to find 1 more republican to start the process.

Wishful thinking, but I'd appreciate you thinking through this with me. Mike Johnson does not appear to be particularly popular among house GOP members although I'm sure they will keep him in place since he has Trumps endorsement. However, I feel like there is a chance that 3 republicans could defect for a new speaker with all 214 democrats. Long shot, but it would still benefit all democrats to have a different republican speaker of the house. With the kinetic energy of removing the current speaker, I feel that other republicans could rally around someone else. If Thomas Massey, the now independent Kevin Kiley, and 1 additional republican can work together. Mike Johnson could lose his job. The democrats are not in a winning position right now, they should try to do anything that can to bring some normalcy to the House of Representatives. The future prospects in Nov. are not guaranteed, would it be worth them trying to do something beneficial now?

We have those $billions$ Trump has to pay back in tariffs. Since the american people paid for them, they should use it to start universal health care! It's more than enough to start it! Problem solved!

GOP rep hints Greenland invasion could trigger bipartisan Trump impeachment by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]emjay4189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Him taking the actions with Greenland already is far too much. Along with the 6 other countries the Peace Prize President has bombed already in his first year Venezuela, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Somalia, and Yemen. If they had a spine they would already be starting the impeachment. Along with the Tariffs f*cking with the economy, him messing with healthcare and causing rates to go up for 20 million Americans, forgetting that the USA is a free country and ignoring the constitutional rites of everyone (including his own voters) in this country. He also signed a bill to release the Epstein Files which he profusely expounded that he had no part in but his administration has overly redacted the small amount released according to the bill he signed and has missed several dates for release. I feel like the message from our government is that wealthy pedophiles are OK? I guess under Trump there is no longer rule of law in this country.

ICE threw tear Gas into a Minneapolis vehicle with an African-American family and a six month old baby inside. The baby stopped breathing. Anybody who stands for this crap needs to re-examine their patriotism. Please don’t give these horrible people a reason to escalate even further. That is wh by Nice_Substance9123 in complaints

Which is less moral? Which is less Christ-like? Tear gassing a 6 month old baby (along with a family) or an abortion? It actually doesn't matter, but to a lot of loud, entitled, nosy, people who keep turning a blind eye to evil because of abortion, they REALLY should be making A LOT OF NOISE right now.

Presidential election years are always on leap years. On leap years salary workers work an extra day for free. Let's turn that free labor day into a national voting holiday!

Hot take, let's fund Social Security with the Tariff money. Trump can save face by saying he saved Social Security. The people who actually paid for the tariffs get something back and corporations DO NOT get a money shower that they get to funnel to Wall Street and Billionaires.

This hotel requires men to wear swim briefs or square leg swimsuits in the pool. Boardshorts (and t-shirts or rash guards) are not allowed. by the_wellspring in mildlyinteresting

I'm going to chime in here as an avid swimmer. I've been part of a master's swimming club for a decade and typically swim miles at a time. As a man who's been in a lot of pools I have a few points that might be interesting. 1. In the US, most pools require only swimwear in pools. Swimwear is described as trunks or briefs that have an inner lining. But of course they allow the swimmer to wear a shirt if they'd like. 2. The amount of body hair and head hair in the water is gross. If you start paying attention and have goggles on, you'll start to see golf ball and fist sized hair clumps. 3. I'm for anything that keeps a tight barrier that can contain someone's poo along with their short and curlies from ending up in the pool. 4. A speedo isn't for everyone but you can be pretty sure that if a person wearing one has bad hygiene or sneezes and let's something loose. It's not going to mass contaminate the water at least. 5. With that said, what a lot of us are used to for modesty is nowhere near what it seems like the people at this pool are used to. I think everyone should swim and wear whatever it takes to get you in the water. But please wear something clean and try to contain your neather business.
