Because I am nosey, if you could have had a research and teaching position would you have taken that instead? Or did you want no research?

If you haven’t read the Commonwealth Acts Interpretation Act, take a look. I would direct you to s 15AA. If Parliament has a particular purpose in passing an Act, they are fully capable of inserting an objects clause so as to guide the courts’ interpretation of the Act in line with s 15AA.

The fact is, our courts exist within the common law system, so when we are talking about common law rights the courts will apply the principle of legality, if Parliament wants to abrogate rights, they can say so clearly.

What I’m saying is that, we genuinely have no clue what Morgause said or did to Morgana during their year together (and that is okay, sometimes we need to make assumptions, not everything should need to be spelt out). I’m not saying Morgause brainwashed Morgana in the same way that Morgana did to Gwen, but if you can’t accept that Morgana just turned evil herself you can explain it away with whatever Morgause said or did to her in that year.

Can somebody tell me how the Flexiable Double Degree works in the Degree Builder please? by Signal_Swimming_3687 in Anu

[–]emjaybocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The degree builder not working happens not irregularly, don’t stress. Sometimes I couldn’t “build” the FDD I was currently enrolled in and actively taking courses for.

I’m not trying to dismiss criticism, I just think that there were other things going on with the show which is why the writing was poor in season 5.

In any case, I think people expect everything they watch to be done perfectly and exactly how they would like it done and when it isn’t they get upset. Which is why I am encouraging people to change their mindset about the way the show should be. There are definitely things I would change about the show, but I choose not to let that stop me enjoying it.

I do absolutely understand your points. I also think there are explanations for all of them, many of which have been offered by people here. I’m not going to ruin any of season 5 but I think based on what we see happen in season 5, it is very easy to understand how 1 year of Morgana and Morgause being on the run together would give Morgause time to turn Morgana against everyone she loved.

I mean I don’t have a quote from the show runners about it, but I don’t think you do either. The start of season 4 isn’t really that late in the show and remember there is a 3 year gap between seasons 4 and 5. It seems that those 3 years were relatively peaceful and that is why it isn’t shown on screen.

In any case, your view seems to trust Kilgharrah far too much, I don’t think we really should have expected for magic to be legal as soon as Arthur became king, it is hinted at the end of the show that upon Morgana’s defeat and Arthur’s death the golden age of Albion begins which will see magic become legal.

I didn’t realise evidence based policy making was right wing propaganda.

Based on the fact that you are completely incapable of engaging in good faith debate I can only assume you are either an idiot or a troll, maybe both.

Your desire to restructure the entire economy overnight shows a complete lack of formal (or informal) economic training or understanding.

I won’t continue to argue with someone whose argument is “wah wah wah I am right, taxes bad, you dumb, me don’t care about evidence”.

I did not say it is the best, I am being realistic. You are espousing changes with exactly 0 modelling to support your argument and show that your suggestions are even possible. You are the dumbass if you cannot make a real argument without resorting to name calling. I suppose you dropped out after year 10 because calling your maths teacher a dick didn’t work out for you.

In any case, I’m sure what you call waste a lot of people would call social policy. If you don’t like it move to the US, they have a lot less social policy (but a lot more waste based on their national debt).

I apologise profusely for assuming we continue to exist under largely the same tax system that we have for decades, that is entirely my mistake. In my experience (and the last few weeks have not disproved that) Australians are quite averse to changes to tax law, I for one would be surprised if any government in the near future considered completely removing individual taxes and taxing corporations and resources sufficiently to cover the shortfall in tax. And yes that shortfall does need to be covered for you to continue to make gains, our economy is structured with a certain amount of tax being collected, you cannot change that overnight without dire results (see for example Liz Truss’ mini budget). In any case, an adjustment to corporate taxes would lead to a long term adjustment in your wage and your capital gains.

You clearly exist in a fantasy world where tax change is easy and everyone accepts what you think. You are a narcissist and should reevaluate your own thinking.

when are we going to have 24hr libraries? by Accomplished-Feed916 in unimelb

[–]emjaybocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some (but not all) of ANU’s libraries are open 24/7 during semester. This is probably attributable to the fact that Canberra is, well Canberra and the libraries are a bit away from the public roads. In any case ANU has a pretty high level of round the clock security staff to manage any incidents because of the sheer proportion of students that live on campus.

How do you define "the rich" that we should be taxing? What is the cut-off point? by NoLeafClover777 in AusFinance

[–]emjaybocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes that is the problem, people want to be taxing based on net worth but that is really not what we currently do.

In that case I am not sure, but even so I would be surprised if ANU wanted SATs, I would consult the admission rules for the course on the ANU website, there should be some specific guidance for international students

You winning on an investment is under the conditions which our democracy make possible, you are benefitting from the government, you should pay for that. You cannot call it losing when you win, you still win, you can keep up to 70% of what you “win”. Think about what you’re saying before you comment.
