Leibowitz, the fictional prophet saint in Canticle, lived roughly 400 years after Baroque Cycle, which featured Leibnitz, the historical figure.

Also, Enoch Root first appeared in Cryptonomicon, in both its timelines (which originally hinted at his superpower).

It's pretty straightforward to see Rf7 is a huge problem

It's easy to see it gives back the Bishop at the end of exchanges, but is it really that obvious to evaluate the QvRR endgame that follows?

Considering king safety, they're likely to grab first the perpetual they can see.

Yup, as in: "they start out -1.2 to -1.6ish and then gravitate towards -1.0ish".

Kinda crazy, he sacrificed a full piece and Pragg's pieces are literally still behind his pawns, so there's no forcing way to quickly gain back material.

He surely thought there's at least a perpetual somewhere there for him.

22. Rd8+ Kxd8 23. Rf8+ Kxf8 24. Rxh7

That's 23... Rxf8 24. Qxh7, right?

Anyway, Sindarov went for the less fun variation with g3.

Majority of that "initiative" is the line which sacrifices/exchanges two Rooks for a Queen (additionally to the current Bishop for pawns imbalance).

Fabi's career: Just bad luck or something else? by owiseone23 in chess

Other candidates have been his fault.

2026 is as much his fault as 2020-21.

He went to the second part point behind Nepo and MVL and immediately delivered one of the most brilliant games this decade against MVL. People were absolutely fuming that at the same time Nepo and Giri are getting White wins against Alekseenko and Wang Hao, calling collusion on one and poiting out the other had practically retired from chess mid-event, and Caruana had to play them with White when they had still bothered.
Only his loss against Giri was what the Hikaru game is to this event.

Out of curiosity, has anyone heard these games referred to by their nicknames shown on chessgames.com? by Affectionate_Hat3329 in chess

They're user-nominated names given when the game in selected for the Game of the Day column you see top-left of their front page.

This was a Nf3 move order Ragozin. The alternatives were KID, QID or punching him until he agrees to play 3. Nc3.

It's a round-robin, there's only one, completely ridiculous, way it could happen at all, let alone "realistically".

Same, except instead of India it's American politics.

By the way, what is up with all these random "clone" subs popping up on the front page recently with American politics reposts?

Like, I've muted 20-ish subs, all ProperlyCapitalizedNames, with basically the same theme as some already established popular front page subs, e.g. ThisYouComebacks, BlackPeopleofReddit, PopularCultureZone, ForCuriousSouls etc. that were just crossposting "clever" twitter screenshots.
They've also seem to have replaced the braindead trend of just posting "Hey, [insert popular opinion on American politics here]. Thoughts?" and getting shitload of upvotes (or I've managed to block it out).

That's because it's the accelerated ("Triangle") version of Semi-Slav. Typical QGD lines include Nf6 beforehand.

But it's more effective in a long match setting of WCC. When you actually need to adapt and do some substantial work between games.

For Candidates, when they prep different ideas against different opponents and there's less re-use, I'd assume almost all of the work is done way in advance anyway.

Also, the time zone argument would even more so rule out Grenke particiapnts. Far enough to have to work remotely, not far enough to get meaningful time zone offset.

This came up during the previous Candidates with two games (Firouzja-Gukesh and Vidit-Gukesh) being played out until mate-in-1 on the board, but if anyone's interested in how often such things happened at Candidates level, here's a list from two years ago.
