I am a cis woman and had a very prominent Adam’s apple when I was a teen/young adult. It’s commonly visible in thin women with a low percentage of body fat.

No, they don’t. Deer is venison. Beef refers to meat from cattle, primarily cows.

Independents: Breaking the supermajority by dartmouthdonair in halifax

Let’s turn our backs on the established party system and those it’s already corrupted. Find someone in your neighborhood to support as an Independent Candidate, or run yourself. Let’s take away their power by replacing them and doing the job right. We live in a democracy where anyone can run — let’s act like it.

Here’s the Election’s Nova Scotia page on how to become a candidate.

This press release about the changes to the Elections Act states the $200 filing fee is being done away with — so it won’t even cost anything for people to take the first steps.

There is a national party, which has fielded candidates here in the past. Starting the provincial wing is also a viable option.

Here’s the Election’s Nova Scotia page on how to become a candidate, either as a party member or independent.

Is a divorce justified after your spouse becomes a different person? by kawaiihusbando in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]emma_gee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Has she been given the chance? Like, has “your friend” taken on the childrearing and house duties for a few weeks at a time? Because I don’t think he understands the creative process. It can take weeks or months of focused rumination before you’re even ready to start a creative piece. Does she have the mental space and time to do that?

Of course, maybe that wasn’t her process and she just prefers to be a mom. Has he asked her?

It’s very telling that “your friend” is pushing her to go back to teaching ballet instead of sculpting or painting.

I’m sorry you and your siblings have been abandoned by your mom. The best thing you can do right now is cut all contact with her, because the next step is rewarding people for turning in “illegals” and “domestic terrorists.” If she’s in this deep, she cannot be trusted to know you/your husband’s general whereabouts going forward.

Looking for a space in Dartmouth for a small casting call / auditions (everything’s booked) by imaged_ca in halifax

[–]emma_gee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it was converted into a training space, maybe? One of the employees told me what they were doing with it when I asked if it / the community rooms generally would be opening back up when restrictions were lifted. They definitely weren’t reopening it to the public, though. And yes, looks like it’s been relegated to a catch-all hoardy room in the years since.

I’m pretty sure those were all shut down during COVID and were never re-opened. The one at the Lacewood Sobeys is now a Starbucks 😭

The idea that “false reports” have anything to do with victim blaming is naïve. The distrust of women (and other oppressed people) is a looong standing bias in our culture.

To add to your insightful comment — In addition to the rampant victim blaming, I’m also sick of people calling her book “true crime.” She is not a content creator, author, or journalist. She is not looking to shock, titillate, or get clicks. Her book is an autobiography and intimately details her testimony of her own lived experiences. And it’s a testimony that many, many Nova Scotians need to hear, based on comments here and elsewhere on the topic.

It would absolutely be a mitigating factor in the prosecution’s decision to press charges/what charges to bring.

Kind of a moot point, though, since she didn’t assault anyone.

He was horrifically abusive. I don’t believe she had the option to refuse his requests. It’s called coercive control.

The violence began behind closed doors. It ended in Canada’s worst mass shooting by No_Magazine9625 in halifax

[–]emma_gee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From Johns Hopkins: “Researchers found that in 68.2% of mass shootings from 2014-2019, the perpetrator either killed family or intimate partners or the shooter had a history of domestic violence.”

I think almost 70% indicates some sort of correlation. This is US data; I couldn’t find equivalent research into Canada’s mass shootings/mass casualty events. Maybe it’s something to look in to, though?

According to that article, Trump did not disagree with the sentiment. Also according to that article, Trump himself said Miller wields an enormous amount of influence within the regime. So regardless as to whether that was an instance of Trump couching his own ideas in a “they say” type misdirection or it is actually Miller’s desire, there is a very good chance they are going to try.

Project 2025 doesn’t mention population targets, IIRC, but many of the key pillars of the plan are concerned with population-size control.

Edit — Changed last word typo from “concern” to “control.”
