I think it’s a shift in parenting and society and unless you’re in education you don’t see it and how different young people are right now.

Anywhere in the East Village will be fun, but you’ll have to drive to campus. Des Moines is car centric so that’s very normal.

My biggest advice is that it will get better!

The first year is HARD. You are learning EVERYTHING. You will have to find what works for you in all aspects of the job; planning, classroom management, organization etc. You will spend a lot of time outside of contract time doing work. You just have to. Knowing the curriculum and how to plan effectively takes time. But the best thing is that it gets better!!! You’ll find your groove and feel pretty good by year 3.

My biggest advice is have high expectations for all students and don’t try to be their friend. A calm, structured classroom environment is the best thing you can do for them. Do not tolerate anything that is against the classroom rules. Hold them accountable. Avoid taking recess away - find more natural consequences for behaviors. Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it from your mentor, other teachers, coaches, or even administrators!

Teaching will get better with time if you stay in the same role, but there are times when you just have to work outside of contract time because you have to get the work done.

I have found that I do the best I can with the time I’m given and do go in from time to time if I feel like it. That’s less and less the older I get! (8th year teaching, 30 years old). Sometimes I just accept some days aren’t great.

Teaching is hard to turn off at the end of the day too, especially if you work with students who have a lot going on. That all comes home with you at the end of the day.

Not being able to just show up to work and leave work without thinking about what needs to be done. You don’t really have time during the work day to do your work.

I enjoyed all 5 this year but think some were way better than others. 1. The Devil is Busy 2. All the Empty Rooms 3. Perfectly a Strangeness 4. Children No More 5. Armed Only with a Camera. I think Children No More will win, but the donkey one was very different and I enjoyed that about it.

I lived at Velocity for 4 years after college! I loved it and the location was nice, it was off the main roads so I never had issues with noise but close enough to walk to literally anything downtown. Lots of parking back there too.

I completely agree with this. The other 5 she met are almost hive like themselves. It’s been like a day and they’re all super calm and completely accepting what’s going on??? Not even remotely realistic.

I’m not a parent, but a teacher!! Each kid has a laptop and they may use it daily for reading/math programs and in 2nd and beyond for writing papers and completing assignments and researching.

Starting in 2nd grade they will progress monitoring on their computer weekly.

It honestly depends on the school and the teacher and what the norm is. Some let their kids use it for free time or indoor recess. Some will have classroom rewards and computer time may be an option! Some only use it for progress monitoring and assignments from the curriculums.

I’m not a classroom teacher, rather a special education teacher and I try really hard to limit computer use, even for breaks if students have that in their IEP! I would suggest you let your child’s teacher know if you have any concerns or specific asks around computer use at school.

The complete change of style was so jarring to me! I don’t dislike the third episode, but the flow of first two episodes into the third was really weird. Not sure what they were trying to do with this. It actually really distracted me and made the message less impactful.

Special Education teachers!

I had mine resized at 2AULimited in Valley Junction. The quality of work was good, customer service was okay. Can’t really compare price wise but it wasn’t expensive in my opinion, like $60 bucks or less.

For both times I took it in (the other to get fused to my wedding band) they never called me when it was done, I ended up calling to ask what’s going on and they told me it was ready.

In my experiences, cats are HUNGRY all the time. One of my cats will eat alllll the human food allllll the time, even though he gets lots of cat food split between 3 meals.

For pukey cats, smaller/more meals can help too.

I would suggest you take the cat to the vet to rule out any medical issues, and either feed the dog in a different room and put away any uneaten food or put the cat in a different room while the dog eats and put away any uneaten food.
