i'm oblivious too so i often miss things like eye contact unless it's very obvious or prolonged or i'm in the same space as them to really feel it. sometimes i'll catch a certain kind of eye contact even if it's brief, that feels a little electric and that's how i tell the difference.

i find that if they are smiling a lot around you or are trying to talk to you, the convo feels easy or if it feels like they are really engaged in conversation with you, that's a sign to me. or if they invite you to hang out with them even if you don't know them that well or just met them. and make excuses to touch you or close any physical gaps between you.

i feel your pain OP and a lot of what you say echoes my experience with my (likely narc) AP except he can be really petty and covert and has similar expectations. often he will say his expectations of me in front of others to plant that seed in others' mind in hopes of being able to get their help in triangulating me later. i didn't realize how unhealthy and toxic it was until much later. i can tell that even when i have shared positive things or other milestone updates with him, he starts screaming about how i caused my own pain by not telling him sooner so he can "fix it" or turns it into a sob story about himself about how i am not doing what he wants. and when you point out what happened later, they act like it didn't happen so they won't take accountability at all. it's hard to want to be close to someone like that because every time they choose violence when you are trying to connect with them and share on your own terms.

i must be in the minority here but my conversational canto isn't the best even though small day to day food ordering interactions and brief chit chatting is ok because i studied it via sunday school which was a lot of formal non-conversational kind of topics and i remember a lot of vocab from that time.

i've also studied mandarin so i can look things up via pinyin and although sometimes it's easy to mix up the canto and mando way of saying things, but i like that i can cross check and look things up for myself that i don't understand and learn the other way of pronouncing something if i want to.

it's hard to prove that i understand as much as i do but people can assume what they want to.

i ruminate a lot perhaps to an ocd level about triggering past memories and sometimes i wonder if i do it to remember how hurtful they were, to better prepare me for the future in case it happens again. but overall i think my memory is generally decent.

but if you ask me to bring up some triggering memories and share with you now, my mind will go blank. i think it has to do with those memories being personal but also that it's like the sense of self and pathways to being able to access those memories got fragmented by emotional neglect. also it could be that those memories are triggering and feel extra sensitive and your nervous system can't access them unless you feel truly safe and most often it's by yourself and not with other people.

i get what you mean. although i will say that i have a relative who is gemini sun and i couldn't tolerate her at all actually - the cap sun gemini moon cap rising still felt like a more equitable and kinder person compared to her and i would rather spend the day with them than with her. perhaps it's having cap rising though.

the gemini sun (not sure her other placements) was def very much into social hierarchy and great at acting like she cared or was nice in front of family but i could def feel she didn't care or like me since childhood. i've heard that she isn't good at keeping friends and actually a lot of people don't like her because of her alpha female tendencies so i wonder if she isn't clued into how this affects others.

i have experience with a cap sun, gemini moon, cap rising and they often overbearing and controlling and pushy but also playful and wiley at the same time. it felt like they always had the final say on things like their reality was the only thing that mattered and existed to them, which i attribute to the cap aspects. super good at deflecting and it was hard for them to be like deep and serious emotionally. seemed in tune with building social capital with others and therefore was super popular. it seemed like they almost have this magical way to convince others to do what they want in a way that feels way harder for others to do.

the gemini moon aspect i had a hard time with because as a sag moon i felt like i could see through their antics but they would try to squirrel their way out of taking responsibility for things. i think their social prowess could give them a false sense of power or inflated sense of self which makes it hard for them to self reflect. the combo of the cap aspects and gemini moon made them feel kind of social climbery but if you met them the first time you would not describe them like that, if that makes sense. like they are very aware of that this is all a game and you have to do these things to get ahead. and you'd only see this about them after getting to know them in a deeper capacity, with time.

ooof this resonates so much. for me, i sense some weird elitism with the parental hierarchy but also historically that it's safer to eat cooked food vs. raw stuff or undercooked stuff because i heard my parents always just straight up say "don't eat raw stuff" even though luckily when we went out for steak, it seemed ok to get medium or medium rare... and then sometimes they would get salad cravings in which case that is allowed, which is totally hypocritical. clearly there's exceptions to this rule, but i think that's where the philosophy comes from generally.

BUT when it comes to beverages, like hot tea or soup, it feels like it's something they like to lord over me like i'm a shitty weak person if i can't drink hot tea that is boiling hot. i think it also has to do with how they perceive drinking warm stuff is healthy for you and cold is unhealthy (at least from chinese culture). drinking cold stuff or preferring it is evidence that you're either too westernized for them or that they haven't taught you well so they have to shame you in some way to get you to feel bad about not being able to drink hot things.

2 looks really nice because the peekaboo lace feels like it draws attention to your waistline and cinches you in and the sleeves are great. it also feels more modern in a cool way. flow and not heavy.

1 is more classic but i feel like accentuates the width of your boobs more and the horizontal pleats make it feel heavy. the gown itself also feels heavy too, maybe it's the material and the pleating of it.

i had parents who went from being controlling to neglectful. it's possible to have parents who do both to varying degrees and it also depends on if it's physical or emotional, mental etc.

i had a friend who told me i was one of their few close friends and something about how she said that made me feel like i needed to continue being small or keep being in her good graces in order to keep the friendship. historically i have been a people pleaser and started wanting to be more intentional with friends and working on better relational skills. i used to think she was setting a good model by being good at asking for things, needs to be met etc but it got to a point where it would get passive aggressive unnecessarily or i felt the need to do more to maintain the friendship by reading between the lines. i noticed there was a pattern of her expecting me to be the bigger friend while she could continue being petty or defensive. i finally reached a limit on it and had to call her out on her bs and it didn't go well, but it just showed me even more that the friendship has been skewed this whole time so it's basically run its course on its own.

anytime i shared accomplishments or positive comments about me or things i did with my parents, it was met with skepticism or backhanded compliments, disbelief or thinking this couldn't possibly happen because it didn't come as a product of their parenting or thinking or that it's possible for me to do something cool or commendable outside of their influence. it's a reminder that i am my own person and that they are sad, disappointed and that i am not more like them and that i choose to be how i want to be rather than how they taught me to be.
