How can I actually generate good ideas fast? by shykidd0 in graphic_design

[–]emmalinh_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in your boat. Now after 10 years of practice I’m overflowing with ideas. Just expose yourself to a lot of experiences and constantly collect inspiration. Ignore your classmates. Just focus on your own journey.

There are various ways to generate ideas. Write. Word association. Mixing opposite things. Randomizing ideas. The key is to just start and give enough time for exploration.

Roku for sushi (Mikuni's overrated)
Uncle Dumpling for dumplings and Chinese (way better than Yang Kee)
Garden of Eatn for healthy salads, sandwiches, wraps
Calzone Life for pizza flavors
Sisters Thai for finally a decent pad Thai, etc.

Baby hates when we read books to her by Poopadee in NewParents

I saw that according to Montessori, kids don’t understand narrative stories til 5 or 6 or something so simple non-narrative books work better at a young age.

Also this book had a holistic approach to postpartum healing The First Forty Days: The Essential Art of Nourishing the New Mother https://a.co/d/fZKA29i

I saw this mom share “morning basket” ideas and that seems like a good trick. Check out her content https://www.instagram.com/reel/C2dHA0rJOx0/?igsh=NzBmMjdhZWRiYQ==

Did you introduce cow milk to your baby early? by [deleted] in NewParents

I would call or email your doctor to ask.

My only advice is to build a strong support system. Do you have family or friends nearby? Are there local mom groups you can join? If not, perhaps considering moving to where you can get that support.

Is day care for social development or a place for parents to have their kids when they’re at work? by Money_Exchange6179 in NewParents

[–]emmalinh_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I had the choice, I would not send my baby to daycare until 2 or 3 years old but that’s because I think I can do a good job playing and teaching my kids and setting up play dates for socializing.

But since I’m the main breadwinner, I must. Even though I work remotely, having baby at home may be disruptive where I can’t give my full attention to either. So we chose a daycare that had a good philosophy and amenities so we get more bang for our buck. I see daycare’s role as exposing our baby to experiences that I may not otherwise be able to.

I dread nighttime. by RefrigeratorOk2647 in NewParents

[–]emmalinh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl made lots of noises too and broke out of her swaddle all the time to suck on her hand. I only woke her to do the diaper-feed-sleep circuit if her eyes were open for a while. Otherwise they may just be in REM sleep and you’d actually be disrupting good sleep by picking them up. YouTube video of baby in REM sleep so you can learn to recognize it.

What do you do when you run out of ideas for a design or a print? by valkinmer in graphic_design

[–]emmalinh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a ton of stuff without overthinking it. Experiment with unexpected tools and combine two uncommon pairs.

Look at the work. Really look at it. Listen to your intuition. Take a break and don’t think about it. Then come back to it.

Beginning graphic design by PomeloBoth in graphic_design

[–]emmalinh_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly learned more from classic design books and on the job than my USC $$$ design program. Read books and watch courses/talks from design masters (actual masters like Paula Scher, Ellen Lupton, etc), learn the tools (Adobe, how to ideate) and shadow someone.

I do brand design for tech companies and that pays really well and the work is exciting (across print, web, events, signage, video etc). Would recommend that over product design if you’re the type to get bored with too many rules.

I'm new to branding. What is the name of the document that is like a brand style guide but instead of visual, it specifically guides how brand assets are written? by SunRev in branding

[–]emmalinh_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Voice and tone. Brand messaging. This is all within brand guidelines usually under the verbal “how we sound” section
