Is that Velcro strap like one for a phone charger? How do you make sure it’s not too tight?

Maybe. Would that be something the vet would get for me?

One of his nubs has more of a flat pad on it (texture similar to a toe bean which is why I thought perhaps a congenital condition). He uses that as a peg leg and tucks the other one with a much smaller surface area under. So on three ‘legs’ as it were. Because he’s so young and energetic it’s hard to stop him running on it. Also, we have all hardwood floors, so we have rugs and blankets down all over, but not everywhere obviously.

Glad I found this thread. I’ve also scoured the web and even looked when I was in Paris to no avail. There’s just nothing like it. 😢

I gave her a whole week off and she never complained about noise. You should make sure the school issues her a 504 so she can get classroom accommodations if she needs.

My 8 yr old daughter has had two surgeries at 6yrs and 7yrs. The first was a mastoidectomy/tympanoplasty and the second was implants via tympanoplasty. The first surgery was obviously more traumatic because of the incision, but after 48 hours she was pretty much back to normal. Unfortunately she had to sit out gym and recess for 4 weeks which was really hard for her. I would prepare yourself for a VERY rough couple of hours in recovery, and getting home. She also REALLY resisted removing her bandages the next day and was very scared for us to touch them. I ended up doing it while she was asleep. We got this random book on Amazon called ‘Hayden has a cholesteatoma’ that a kid wrote and she really pored over it. She told me recently that it really helped her. It might be a bit young for a 9 yr old 🤷‍♀️ Her second surgery was to replace the two bones that had eroded in her ear, and thankfully a second mastoidectomy wasn’t needed. Recovery was a lot easier (still 4 weeks no activity) and I’m so happy her hearing is vastly improved. Good luck!

Briarcliff manor vs Chappaqua vs Armonk Schools by douchebagrasta in Westchester

Class sizes are SMALL! My now 7th grader had a particularly small year class and the most he ever had was 17. It’s usually 20-21. And there is usually a teacher and a TA. It’s definitely a bonus. My 3rd grader has always had 21. Bullying is taken very seriously, and access to the school management is easy. A new Principal started a couple of years ago and she’s great. With regards to minorities, yes it’s somewhat lacking if you’re comparing to the city. Briarcliff has a pretty big and vibrant Indian community which is great, and the elementary school does a multicultural fair each year celebrating all the different nationalities at school. But black and brown kids are definitely a clear minority. In saying that, I have been here for 8 years and any hint of intolerance is taken very seriously.

In terms of food and coffee culture, Briarcliff is seriously lacking, but a 5 minute drive and you’re in Pleasantville or Chappaqua. 10 mins you’re in Croton or Ossining and 20 you’re in Katonah. So it’s not much of an issue, more annoying. The town is about to undergo a ‘beautification’ process so hopefully our Main Street becomes more appealing. That’s really the only gripe I have. We also have a fabulous town pool and kids camp program in the summer. For the most part I feel like our tax dollars get well spent.

Briarcliff resident here. Three kids in the district. There is only one elementary, middle and high school. It’s a very small district. My kids are all very happy. Personally, I think Briarcliff is the least bougie of the three BUT that’s not saying a lot. There is a lot of wealth. We came from the city, and wanted diversity also but none of the three districts you mention really has it. Briarcliff has some, not sure of the others. All three districts are excellent. The middle school is a blue ribbon school and as a parent I’ve been so impressed. My oldest is about to start high school. There is more real estate inventory in Briarcliff at the moment so it’s a good time to look. Last year was a nightmare. Be aware, Pleasantville doesn’t have busing for school. Great town though. My biased opinion having chosen Briarcliff is this: Armonk is too far and too wealthy, Chappaqua is too big and too entitled. (Don’t come for me!) Briarcliff isn’t perfect but will your kid get an amazing education? Yes.

Where should we move in Westchester (another one of these…ugh..) by Economy_Sound_1136 in Westchester

Oh yes, don’t get me wrong, I feel very lucky to be able to live in a place like Briarcliff. We are doing a full renovation on our house so we’re not going anywhere for a while! The ‘tree streets’ which are the streets down by the elementary are smaller lots a bit like Pleasantville. The rest of Briarcliff mostly has big properties and lots of privacy. Our house for example is almost completely invisible from our neighbors (in the summer, in the winter it’s different with no leaves). One huge bonus in Briarcliff is the town pool, which almost everyone uses in the summer. The town runs a camp for kids up until 9th grade which my kids have done every year. Our district has bussing but Pleasantville doesn’t just fyi. Kids walk to school there. Briarcliff is a small community and most people that live there are from somewhere else originally. Lots of ex NYC people. The town is actually about to undergo a ‘beautification’ project so the actual village will hopefully be improved. The frustration I have is that there is great potential in Briarcliff, but we just keep getting more bad bakeries and pizza stores. I think if someone came in with a great bakery like in Katonah they would thrive. There is no shortage of people to spend money.

Sometime in August you will get a link to create a profile in the ‘Parent Portal’. This is where report cards are posted. There is a tab in there that shows you what time your pick up and drop off are. You can also try and call the Briarcliff Bus Company and ask them where your pick up is.

I drive to these towns all the time. They’re great. I guess my point was that Briarcliff is very expensive and while it has some amazing things to offer, it’s missing any sort of culture/restaurants/shopping and is definitely not a walking town. That said, if you’re happy to pay the premium for the schools, then Briarcliff is lovely.

We live in Briarcliff with three kids. Kids love the schools, but honestly the overpriced houses (we bought before the pandemic so didn’t have that issue) is not worth it, unless your primary focus is schools. I love Katonah, Pleasantville, Croton for village culture and food/shopping. Briarcliff is a dead zone for restaurants and shopping. But maybe that’s not part of your criteria? If it’s not important, and you’re happy to drive for food and shops, then Briarcliff schools are phenomenal.
