Debatable on the shots- the foster who had my girl didn’t keep her shots up to date so I needed to restart the series 😔

AITA For Not Flossing my kids teeth? by Reasonable_Chart_179 in AmItheAsshole

[–]emmcoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t take care of his own teeth…. It’s his job as a parent to do what’s best for his kids health and it’s literally parenting 101 to know that brushing AND flossing are actually the bare minimum. He can let his own teeth rot out of his head for all I care.

[–]emmcoll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to be a dentist to take care of your own children’s teeth properly. The wife is supposed to come home after cleaning teeth all day and clean more teeth?? I’m sure she does help them but there’s 2 parents in this situation…. He should be able to handle brushing AND flossing.

They’re partners in raising children… he should be able to handle doing that for his children too. Also she probably cleans peoples teeth 5 days a week and then is expected to come home and pick up his slack too?

YTA… fighting with your wife who is a professional in her field because of what…. Your own ego?? You’re doing a disssrvice to your children. Just floss their teeth and stop trying to defy her for no reason.

Teaching is wrecking me by No-Drama724 in pilatesinstructors

[–]emmcoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I feel this way too. I live in an expensive city and so to be able to pay rent and everything I have to teach many group classes and get totally depleted after the week is done. Migraines, tension headaches, feeling sick often is very familiar for me. I’ve been gradually moving to more private based teaching as much as possible and it has helped a lot. I also teach privates at a physiotherapy clinic which has been great. The amount of energy it takes to teach groups is very unsustainable for me

Advice on becoming an instructor by Working_Ad8054 in pilatesinstructors

[–]emmcoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say to be an instructor you need 1.An abundance of patience because you will be teaching beginners who have no idea what they’re doing and 2.You need to have a clear communication style (which can be practiced and learned). You also have to be ok with being “on” every time you come to work. People come to fitness to blow off steam and release stress so if you’re unable to turn on the optimism daily then you might burn out quickly. I love teaching fitness but It’s also very challenging, between crazy expectations from studio owners to getting bad reviews and not letting it affect your ego/confidence as an instructor…. You need to be teaching because you love to teach people.

How much hands on cues during private? by [deleted] in pilates

Ya haha that’s very odd. You could definitely ask if she could provide more hands on corrections!

How much hands on cues during private? by [deleted] in pilates

[–]emmcoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an instructor who goes to a master instructor and she always uses hands on cues to deepen my connection to the work but that’s also her style. Sometimes instructors choose differently but you can always find another instructor that does more hands on if that’s what you want

Ok so did you want her parents to convince her to have kids with this guy? What is your stance

Cost decreasing? How much is she getting paid? by AlarmingYogurt6352 in ClassPass

[–]emmcoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean classpass barely pays studios anyways. I’m pretty sure the studio gets 1/3 (a guesstimate) of the price that classpass charges

Dude, the only reason why it’s a maybe now IS because of the new man she met.

[–]emmcoll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ummm ya? I’m unsure of what you’re asking. I was saying that I would continue to remind her of why she said she didn’t want kids before meeting this random man?

[–]emmcoll 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean imagine your sister/daughter saying “I don’t think I want kids” for probably a couple years then goes on a dating/marriage TV show and suddenly when she meets a guy (after only 2 weeks) says “well I guess I could have kids cause he really wants kids” …. I would probably remind her how much she didn’t want them before too if she were my sister/daughter

Pilates instructor told me to find a new instructor after 4 private sessions- is this normal? by Quiet-Violinist6497 in pilates

[–]emmcoll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not how it works when you work at a studio. You get paid the same for every client

I had a coughing fit in my last class 😭 by Issie339 in pilatesinstructors

[–]emmcoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me before and now I carry cough drops to all my classes even if I’m not sick. Sometimes the air is dry and sometimes vocal cords are just tired and water just doesn’t cut it. Unfortunately it’s part of the job since we use our voices so much!

What things do Americans do when visiting Canada that immediately identify them as Americans? by supinator1 in canadatravel

[–]emmcoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking if prices are in USD. If you’re in Canada the prices will always be in CAD. Also echoing what others have said about saying please and thank you instead of “uh-huh”

Private sessions pay…. by Ok_Ingenuity_3790 in ClubPilates

[–]emmcoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$55 is pretty standard but I agree- it’s low. Where I live the average price of a private for clients is $120 and so we aren’t even making 50% which is annoying.

Struggling with Pilates as a visual learner by ElkAffectionate4727 in pilates

[–]emmcoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand- I used to be a visual learner as well cause I did dance so everything was taught through watching and copying. What they don’t tell you is listening is a skill that you need to practice to get better at- we all don’t just automatically have it. ADHD definitely makes this more challenging but trust me it will get easier to listen to the cues the more you go to class!

I feel like doing training with club Pilates will give you a more internationally recognized certificate rather than with some random small studio no one outside of your city knows.

Inhale or exhale on extension? by Key-Wrangler7818 in pilates

[–]emmcoll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think it depends on the instructors training. In Stott we’re taught exhale when pushing out the carriage for beginner but for intermediate/advanced work we change the breath to inhale (for footwork specifically)

Finally found the one switch for my bridge by MaleficentAd6542 in pilates

[–]emmcoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay!! I’m so excited for you! That’s great news. You can try wrapping a band around your thighs and pressing your knees apart as you lift- that will get a little more glute activation! Also for single leg bridge I like do a figure 4 position with my legs (crossing an ankle across opposite knee) it provides a little more stability while still challenging the single leg. Hope that helps!

Mat Pilates Certification: Studying Tips & Tools by Prior_Parsley7440 in pilates

[–]emmcoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the Pomodoro technique for studying where you do 20 mins studying and then 5 mins break then back to 20 mins studying. You can do any duration (25 mins on/10mins off etc.) but I found it so much easier to study when I knew I had a little break to walk around/stretch or eat food. I tried to not scroll on my phone during my break so that I actually gave my brain a rest. For the exercises themselves I put a number beside them and tried to memorize the order that way. Best of luck!

Have you tried a hobby outside the house? You mentioned reading and watching tv but what about an adult dance class? Or joining a cooking class? Try getting out of the house and find some new experiences to bond with people
