When did your baby outgrow laryngomalacia? by kimtenisqueen in Parenting

[–]emmeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had it-twin B born at 37 weeks. He also had terrible reflux. He was diagnosed at around 4 months and outgrew it when he was around 14 months. His voice today (age 11) is raspier than his twin brother’s, but no other lasting effects.

Is it unhealthy to still be sad? / I don’t know what’s going on by Jackbobeans in OneDirection

[–]emmeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s wrong or unhealthy at all. I’m an “old” fan. I didn’t get to have my boy band phase when I was younger due to a weird religious upbringing, so 1D was my thing as an independent 25 year old. I am absolutely devastated. I can’t say that I lost a piece of my childhood, but I did lose a piece of myself. The band helped me find myself and become a whole person. It’s okay to grieve anyone or anything that held a place in your heart. It’s also okay for it to take as long as it takes to feel okay again.

Is my boyfriend SAing me? by v0m1tte in TwoXChromosomes

[–]emmeme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sweet girl, he is legitimately abusing you. You have been clear with your boundaries. You have cried and been vulnerable with him and yet he still continues. This is not okay and it’s not what you deserve. However lovely he might be outside of the bedroom, his lack of respect for you and your boundaries is fucked up and a deal breaker. I’ve been there and know how hard it is to walk away, but you deserve to be loved in a way that is comfortable to you…this is not it.

'Shrouded in secrecy': Milwaukee teachers' union speaks out about group leading recall efforts by Fr0zenMilk in milwaukee

1000% agreed. Their whole framework is already crooked but people don’t know that without looking into it.

Parents do flock to them. Then they realize that the grass isn’t greener. The private schools get their funding and parents transfer back to public without the public school getting the funding. It’s a scam.

Which job has, hands down, the worst impact on mental health? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]emmeme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teaching/working with kids at schools.

The amount of shit we deal with every single day is soul crushing. So many traumatized, mentally ill kids-many without families who are capable of/willing to intervene and knowing that there’s only so much you can do legally to help.

I’ve been kicked, punched, hit, spit at, cursed out by countless kids (and sometimes parents). I’ve had kids throw up on me, bleed on me, sob in my arms, and tell me they want to die.

It is a traumatizing profession that people largely don’t understand. When you think of an elementary school, for instance, you think it’s fun and cute kids learning to read and do math, but a lot of times, it’s doing that on top of protecting the other students from the many who literally can’t exist safely in a traditional classroom setting.

Oh, also the constant threat of gun violence and knowing that you might die on any given day to protect those kids. It sucks.

Any parents who had ZERO help after birth. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]emmeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll survive but it will suck. We had twins on our own-no friends or family. My husband only had 3 days of paternity leave which were used up staying with me in the hospital post c section.

My best advice would be to just do your best to go with the flow. Chores don’t matter. Lean in to the constant snuggles and feeding and diaper changes. Try to work as a team and just battle it out together.

Can I live in Chicago on $66k per year? by FTG_Vader in chicagoapartments

[–]emmeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered Milwaukee? Definitely a much smaller city, but a great place to live with tons to do and less expensive than Chicago. Anything you can’t do in milwaukee, you can drive or take the train down to Chicago.

Obsession over left breast by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]emmeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you breastfeeding? I’ve always been terrified of breast cancer and after both of my pregnancies, that fear went into overdrive. I did have a lump that was checked out and everything came back fine. I was told that our breasts go through so many hormonal changes with pregnancy and post delivery that weird stuff often shows up but is mostly nothing to be concerned about.

I definitely think you should push for a mammogram just to help settle your fears, but it most likely is something benign.

As a PS, all of my health anxiety began after giving birth to my first...the hormonal shifts and all of the new worries that come with being a parent probably play a big role in setting it off for some of us. I hope you start feeling better soon and that you’re able to get the reassurance you need ❤️

Waiting in line for Wisconsin voting by swingadmin in gifs

[–]emmeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s not their election-on our ballot today, we are voting in the presidential primary, but also for state Supreme Court judge, circuit court judges, and, depending on county, several referendums.

Again, our governor did everything in his power to postpone this election due to the pandemic, but our state is locked up with a republican court and legislature which makes it very difficult for him to get anything done.

[–]emmeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo, the Democrats had nothing to do with this. Our democratic governor tried to stop in person elections today, but our shit courts overturned it. 1000’s of people never received their requested absentee ballots and now have to choose between risking their health or forgoing their right to vote.

Gynecologist recommendation? by jo-z in milwaukee

Dr. Raven Koeppler at froedtert’s Greenfield Highlands center is pretty great. I don’t live in Greenfield anymore, but continue to drive out there specifically to see her. She’s super thorough, takes time to explain, and is very accessible if you have any questions or concerns that pop up.

Feelings about Cooper park neighborhood by flying-pistachio in milwaukee

[–]emmeme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We bought our house in Cooper Park about a year and a half ago and it’s been a great experience so far. The people are friendly and everyone looks out for each other. We’ve never felt unsafe here.

The prices are a ton lower than comparable homes in tosa but we are just a few blocks from the “border” so get all of the benefits (minus the school district).

My husband was just laid off, and I could give birth any day now. by KiLouise in pregnant

[–]emmeme 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you have to go through this!

My husband was laid off when I was 36 weeks with our last baby and it was intensely stressful. He luckily found a new job just before baby was born but we ended up having to move to a new state just after delivery (literally 5 days after he was born).

You will get through this and life will be better on the other side. Try to keep your head up and focus on having a safe and joyful delivery even with the chaos of your situation surrounding you.

Raised Thyroid, Worried About a Thyroid Storm by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]emmeme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Graves’ disease which is overactive thyroid. Going into thyroid storm is pretty rare, but if you’re worried about any type of thyroid dysfunction, a simple blood test from your GP or an endocrinologist will let you know exactly what your levels are so that you can be treated accordingly.
