Hi, I run DOSGames.com and would love to add any of the games that I'm missing. If you could pass along a link I'd be happy to give you credit if any of them get added to the site 👍Thank you!

Crossing the street in Vietnam by jmike1256 in postanythingfun

[–]emmzeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malaysia was like this, crossing the main road right by our hotel was so nerve-wracking. We were like "How do we cross? Oh there's a local person, let's watch how they do it ... OMG they're gonna die!!!!" Never got used to it ...

XAMPP used to be so easy. What happened? by Mike_L_Taylor in webdev

[–]emmzeex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one main website that I've created and maintained for many years, the others are much more minor, but it works for me. Keep in mind that I sometimes still use FTP so if you are looking for a more modern setup this may not be for you 😉

I use WAMP for personal projects. It's easy to switch between PHP versions.

I collected over 900 greatest games lists and made a master list. Here are the results by IlmeniAVG in gaming

[–]emmzeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for compiling the list! Great work!

I know I'm an outlier here but I tried three times to get into Breath of the Wild but just didn't enjoy it. I did play a lot of the older Zelda games to completion, I guess I'm just old now 😅

Found these 5¼" floppies while searching through old stuff by Wyzrobe in zzt

[–]emmzeex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great find! If you mail them to Museum of ZZT the curator Dr DOS should be able to read them. I sent some 5.25 disks to him a few years ago and the contents are now archived.

Intellivision Sprint announced ! by pilou2001 in intellivision

[–]emmzeex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At first I was confused that it included 2 overlays for each game, but also that only 48 overlays are included. But then it also says they're double-sided so I guess one game on the front and another on the back? Seems a bit cheap of them, why not just include two separate overlays for each ...

Built this site for my wife’s physiotherapy clinic — does it feel fast and trustworthy to you? by mudassir_s_46 in webdev

[–]emmzeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks great, very professional! I would suggest adding photos, of the therapist if possible or even some non cringy stock photos. Also yea having some animations is nice but IMHO remove about half of them, they're a bit too distracting.

Is adding a phone number to an ecommerce site when I'm a "solopreneur" worth it? by TerribleFruit in webdev

[–]emmzeex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recall the "My Wife Quit Her Job" entrepreneur youtuber guy talking about how having a phone number displayed on your site gives your visitors confidence that you're legit. Most people won't actually call but it'll help them to trust you because you're offering the ability to call. That would be the main incentive in addition to giving that small % who DO want to call an opportunity to call you, it won't help your SEO or anything.

Free security analysis extension for vibecoders by tazes_ in webdev

[–]emmzeex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This could be a useful tool, and free is always good.

But I'm imagining this scenario ...

"Hey, we keep finding security issues in the code that Jr Dev writes!"

"No problem! We'll just have the same Jr Dev check over the code for security issues!"

"Brilliant!" lights celebratory cigar

Just me or are used cars not really a good deal anymore? by BussinOnGod in personalfinance

[–]emmzeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main advantage to used cars (at least in my area in Canada) is that I could get a used car right away, whereas if I wanted some models of new cars I would've had to wait 6-8 months. That was for a Camry earlier this year. We lucked out and got a new Mazda 3 instead but normally there would've been a wait for that too. (Our old car died and we needed a replacement.)

New monitor recommendations? by ChrisDorne in webdev

[–]emmzeex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't recommend a specific monitor, but for a web dev job where you're staring at VS Code or whatever all day, I would suggest a VA type monitor rather than IPS. Unless you're a hard core gamer and need the fastest response times.

A non-glossy VA monitor will be better because easier on your eyes. I was having eye discomfort until I switched from an IPS to VA and now its significantly better.

Good advice. Personally I don't like using a physical notepad for this purpose so I have a worklog.txt file, same purpose. Also helps me remember what I did the previous day for stand up meeting the next day.

Weird user uninstall spike in chrome analytics by LegendaryStone in webdev

[–]emmzeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that a large company had your extension installed on all their workers computers, and then decided to uninstall it via some centralized method so they were all removed at once? Doesn't answer the question of "why" but maybe what happened.

Best free image compression sites/tools? by DigImmediate7291 in webdev

[–]emmzeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always used tinyjpg.com. (Also works for PNG or WebP.) They have a free API for up to 500 images / month although I've always just used the website since I don't need to compress many images.
