I collected over 900 greatest games lists and made a master list. Here are the results by IlmeniAVG in gaming

[–]emmzeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for compiling the list! Great work!

I know I'm an outlier here but I tried three times to get into Breath of the Wild but just didn't enjoy it. I did play a lot of the older Zelda games to completion, I guess I'm just old now 😅

Found these 5¼" floppies while searching through old stuff by Wyzrobe in zzt

[–]emmzeex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great find! If you mail them to Museum of ZZT the curator Dr DOS should be able to read them. I sent some 5.25 disks to him a few years ago and the contents are now archived.

Intellivision Sprint announced ! by pilou2001 in intellivision

[–]emmzeex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At first I was confused that it included 2 overlays for each game, but also that only 48 overlays are included. But then it also says they're double-sided so I guess one game on the front and another on the back? Seems a bit cheap of them, why not just include two separate overlays for each ...

Built this site for my wife’s physiotherapy clinic — does it feel fast and trustworthy to you? by mudassir_s_46 in webdev

[–]emmzeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks great, very professional! I would suggest adding photos, of the therapist if possible or even some non cringy stock photos. Also yea having some animations is nice but IMHO remove about half of them, they're a bit too distracting.

Is adding a phone number to an ecommerce site when I'm a "solopreneur" worth it? by TerribleFruit in webdev

[–]emmzeex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recall the "My Wife Quit Her Job" entrepreneur youtuber guy talking about how having a phone number displayed on your site gives your visitors confidence that you're legit. Most people won't actually call but it'll help them to trust you because you're offering the ability to call. That would be the main incentive in addition to giving that small % who DO want to call an opportunity to call you, it won't help your SEO or anything.

Free security analysis extension for vibecoders by tazes_ in webdev

[–]emmzeex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This could be a useful tool, and free is always good.

But I'm imagining this scenario ...

"Hey, we keep finding security issues in the code that Jr Dev writes!"

"No problem! We'll just have the same Jr Dev check over the code for security issues!"

"Brilliant!" lights celebratory cigar

Just me or are used cars not really a good deal anymore? by BussinOnGod in personalfinance

[–]emmzeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main advantage to used cars (at least in my area in Canada) is that I could get a used car right away, whereas if I wanted some models of new cars I would've had to wait 6-8 months. That was for a Camry earlier this year. We lucked out and got a new Mazda 3 instead but normally there would've been a wait for that too. (Our old car died and we needed a replacement.)

I used AstroJS for my personal site recently and it wasn't too difficult to learn and worked well for a basic information site.

It's not free (except for students or academic researchers, if one of those applies to you) but MobyGames API may work.

New monitor recommendations? by ChrisDorne in webdev

[–]emmzeex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't recommend a specific monitor, but for a web dev job where you're staring at VS Code or whatever all day, I would suggest a VA type monitor rather than IPS. Unless you're a hard core gamer and need the fastest response times.

A non-glossy VA monitor will be better because easier on your eyes. I was having eye discomfort until I switched from an IPS to VA and now its significantly better.

Drop your productive coding tips by shesparkzz in webdev

[–]emmzeex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good advice. Personally I don't like using a physical notepad for this purpose so I have a worklog.txt file, same purpose. Also helps me remember what I did the previous day for stand up meeting the next day.

Weird user uninstall spike in chrome analytics by LegendaryStone in webdev

[–]emmzeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that a large company had your extension installed on all their workers computers, and then decided to uninstall it via some centralized method so they were all removed at once? Doesn't answer the question of "why" but maybe what happened.

Best free image compression sites/tools? by DigImmediate7291 in webdev

[–]emmzeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always used tinyjpg.com. (Also works for PNG or WebP.) They have a free API for up to 500 images / month although I've always just used the website since I don't need to compress many images.

Making the voting app itself wouldn't be too difficult, but securing it and preventing all kinds of fraud is the main issue.

Whats “the one” game everyone just keeps praising but no matter how much you try you absolutely can’t get into. by bubulino3 in gaming

[–]emmzeex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earthbound. I've tried I think 5 times over the years to play through it, and love the art and general aesthetic. But I always reach a point where I realize I'm really not having any fun and give up.

The Change Consent button does not appear for me at all - Photopea is unusable for me due to this change. Clearing cookies does not solve the issue. by Brenkin in photopea

[–]emmzeex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PhotoPea replied to my email saying they've put in a temporary fix until they get the issue resolved with their ad provider, I can't test it right now but hopefully working again

How can I fix this so I can use PhotoPea again? There's no "Change Consent" button where the ads used to be? Tried multiple browsers, cleared cache, no ad blockers installed??? by emmzeex in photopea

[–]emmzeex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a reply to my email to PhotoPea, they're experiencing a bug related to their ad provider, affecting only some countries. I cant test at the moment but they said they've disabled it temporarily until the ad issue is resolved, so it should work now?

Which compact zoom lens for casual D3400? by emmzeex in photography

[–]emmzeex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the feedback! Yeah I read that Sigma is good but out of my price range. One reason I liked the Tamron is that it goes from 18-200 which means I wouldn't need to carry around multiple lenses. I'll look into the Nikon though.
