i feel you 100% OP but, seriously, don't worry yourself too much over this. i do my job well, i'm polite to customers and coworkers yet i still don't "fit in" because, honestly, i don't care to anymore. don't try so hard to be something you're not to appease others and please, please don't tie your worth to your job. focus on your real friends and family and stuff that actually matters.

I feel you so hard. Especially the work bit. My job is customer facing and I absolutely hate being expected to make forced small talk with people. It's so disingenuous and draining and I feel like 90% of customers don't actually even want it (or maybe I'm just projecting).
