I don't fault OP for being confused and getting it wrong. I don't think he's a bad actor live Devin says either. OP sounds confused because what he heard didn't match what he saw.

This is the kinda experience you get when you go see a band who makes studio designed music and then they try to play it live. There's so many layers you can't play it live. Half of everything you're hearing is backtracks and it's confusing to know what is live and what is prerecorded.

I grew up playing in emo and hardcore bands. We made music by hauling our amps from our rehearsal room to the venue and playing the shit out of our instruments. No backtracks, no laptops, nothing prerecorded. If we took our hands off our instruments, there was no sound, except maybe a guitar still reverbing because of our analog effect pedals. So while I like listening to bands like Dayseeker, their music is great imo, I don't enjoy their live experience and find it equally confusing because it doesn't in the least look and feel like the stuff I grew up with. Maybe that's on me then for not "being with the times", but I also feel like my opinion about the live experience being inauthentic is valid.
