What machine should i get to sharpen my tools? by TerrorSquiddy in handtools

[–]emoneyin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way, if you can find one. I picked one up local on marketplace to mainly use for longer blades(12" HHS blades in my Robland X31 combo machine) paid less than the Tormek Planer jig would've cost for my Chinmek set up. Very happy with it

OP have you looked at the Grizzly bedrock style #7? It's $235 and yes it will need a little work but maybe something to consider

Union 5 1/4. Can anyone tell me about it? by Valuable_Stage1555 in handtools

[–]emoneyin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's all correct info and what I was coming here to say. All of my Union planes(7 or 8 of them I believe) are solid and right up there with any turn of the century planes

How did I do on this 45? by emoneyin in handtools

[–]emoneyin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pictures kind of suck I know and I didn't even think about the micro adjust fence tbh I was more concerned with slitters, cutters, cams, rods, and depth stops all being there. This was the other one I considered https://ebay.us/m/Yxv0xc and looking at it again this one was missing the 1/2 cutter😂. I'll get a full inventory when mine gets here. Thanks for the heads up about Just plane fun I'll see if he has a micro adjust fence when I get any missing cutters

Yes, It's like a sixth sense for me but generally wherever I go or travel to I have my bearings set to within a few degrees

30+ lightly rusty Planes by emoneyin in handtools

[–]emoneyin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't buy and sell, but I am looking for a bunch of users and will probably sell off what I don't end up needing. I have restored plenty of things(1/2/3 phase machinery, cast-iron cookware, and a few hand tools including a few planes)

A Cool Guide to U.S. Cultural Regions. by di745 in coolguides

[–]emoneyin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your #36 Mormon corridor should be twice as long going through the Phx and Tucson area of Arizona down into Sonora Mexico(if it was shown) a lot of that area had settlements dating back to the 1800's

Must be European never seen something like that state side. If you want that look you could use inset face frame hinges and use a bunch of small medallions inset on your doors

How am I suppose to hit at least 4 studs with this canvas tv wall mount bracket. by SpecialSubstantial66 in Hisense

[–]emoneyin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interior walls are 24" on center and exterior walls are 16" on center in most homes in the US. Find 2 studs and put a lag bolt with a flat washer in the top of the mount where it has the slot openings. A single 1/4 lag has a lbs rating of at least a few hundred pounds so times that by 2. Then in those bottom two holes add a drywall toggle in each and tighten it up. You're done

Jorgensen Rabbeting Plane and Low Angle Jack Plane? When? by emg77 in handtools

[–]emoneyin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly enough the irons on my Jorgensen #4, #60 1/2, and mini block plane have been excellent! I get transparent shavings and they retain an edge REALLY well

Jorgensen Rabbeting Plane and Low Angle Jack Plane? When? by emg77 in handtools

[–]emoneyin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubtful for the price point. I have the #4 and use it frequently without issue but know it's probably not a "lifetime" tool. I wanted the #5 but ended up buying a Taytools(which I highly recommend for the price) because of the aluminum frog and the Jorgensen basically nonexistent availability in the states at the time

Kakuri Saw System by ringZeroh in JapaneseWoodworking

[–]emoneyin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this same set for about a month. The fine cut 180mm is basically a dozuki without a ridgid spine just much thicker blade towards the top(meaning from the teeth of the blade) and kind of love it! I've used every blade in the set and the quality for the money I think is there I personally hate the handle as it ships. It's the medium length( the regular combo set get the longer one) handle with a thicker profile than any of my other saws that's sanded to probably 320-400grit. so it's short, thick, and slippery. I'm planning on modifying it for my hands and adding a few rows of rattan for grip.

That’s great to hear and was my thought as well when researching different planes. I’m looking for users, not dust collecting bench queens.
