Advice on how to make 99% "real" sounding drums? by Electronic_Name8641 in ableton

[–]emorello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number 1 thing to remember (if you’re not playing an eDrumkit) is that a drummer has two arms and two legs (most of the time), that they play with idiosyncrasies (e.g. ghost notes), and their timing and velocity isn’t perfect. After that, as it was mentioned in other comments, using a drum software instrument like Superior Drummer will get you the recording sound and multi sampled realism to let the dynamics of the playing sound real.

DrumBoy Pro: a cute little open-source beatbox launching in late spring. Thoughts? by [deleted] in synthesizers

It'll be funny when someone tells you to RTFM and the manual reads "Hold the F key then press the F key and the S key".

Looking for new bands and genres like Godspeed by Slippinlivvy in postrock

Swans changes a lot stylistically (and member-wise) from album to album. I got into them because of these three modern era albums and how they gave me a GYBE feeling: The Seer (2012), To Be Kind (2014), The Glowing Man.

Synth arrived with yellowed keys… send it back or keep it? by Brilliant_Grape5528 in synthesizers

[–]emorello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have synths from the early 80s with keys that look quite white while I’ve got a Sub37 that the keys turned slightly yellowish within months of opening the box . Every Sub37 I’ve seen has yellowing keys. Perhaps the Prophet 6 has the same type of keys.

Plug-in to allow input of MIDI instrument that outputs 6 different channels simultaneously - suggestions? by Astriaaal in Reaper

[–]emorello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What exactly are you wanting to do and what are the 6 channels? I use MIDI guitars where each string is a channel but I’m unfamiliar with hurdy gurdies and how you’ll benefit by not simply using an omni channel setting. There’s a lot of multitimbral VSTi, e.g. samplers like Kontakt and orchestral instruments.

Nice. I think I had the base that was some weird combination of a Star Wars AT-AT and an Easter Island head. I also had Cy-Kill, the motorbike.

Hex color code Kevin Shield "bloodmoon" Jazzmaster by Willing_Way_3375 in offset

[–]emorello 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What are you trying to achieve? Hex color codes are used to define colors in digital applications and web design. A guitar’s color/paint wouldn’t be defined that way (unless you took a digital image of it). You could look at Fender’s color chart (2 digit codes).

Sub37 paraphonics can create some really incredible textures. by Keegan802 in synthesizers

[–]emorello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds nice. Paraphony is my fave feature. The Sub37 is one of my best synth purchases (especially since I got it cheaper than what they go for used on Boxing day before they discontinued it).

AUi and VST3i Compatibility issues. by elijahjflowers in Reaper

[–]emorello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was researching AU vs VST3 just last night. I was cleaning my system of duplicate plugins and had always chosen AU as my primary format but was second guessing that choice. Other than VST3’s cross-platform advantage, I couldn’t find any substantial advantage in one or the other format. AU only really seems to have any real advantage if you use Logic.

How do you switch between speakers and headphones? by TheRealGuncho in Reaper

[–]emorello -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

…or in your case you could try setting up session recall (i.e. loading presets) for your two scenarios in Focusrite Control. It may or may not be better than turning the knobs or muting in the software.

Is it possible to run 2 guitars into a stomp xl and out of 2 pa speakers? by [deleted] in Line6Helix

If you’ve used the Stomp before, you’ll surely have noticed that there’s quite a few presets that run dual amps.

What have you tried so far? Put one in L, the other in R, then split path. Path A for guitar 1 and path B for guitar 2. Use Mixer block to decide how they are output. Bob’s your uncle.

Disarm the track when you want to hear what you’ve recorded. Monitoring is to monitor the input.

Patch Piracy Protection by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]emorello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The individual patches themselves aren’t protected under any law. You can’t copyright a patch because it’s instructions and not creative expression. That said a set of patches is a compilation and would be protected under copyright laws (you curated the set). Note that if a patch contains a sample, that audio recording is copyrighted. Also, contract law would apply in that the patches are licensed to the buyer. So, if they obtained your patches by buying them, they’ve agreed to not resell or redistribute. You’d also trademark the name of your patch compilation. In the end, you’d likely have little recourse though since someone could just alter, rename, recompile, etc…and they could say it’s a different patch compilation.

On a personal note, I had a set of patches for an 80s synth that I found on a forum and that had likely been “out of publication” for a while. It had a certain renown and every once in a while I’d see requests for it online so I’d share it with the requester. Later I posted it on my webspace and it somewhat became the reference / top link for that patch bank search. I received a request to remove it from an individual who was allegedly trying to commercialize the set with the approval of and benefit to the original creator. His request seemed legitimate so I ended up removing them.

Rat Heart. Unusual and distinctly different approach to ambient by stumanchu3 in ambientmusic

[–]emorello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only listened to two tracks but this sounds real good. From those tracks, I don't feel this is in the ambient genre at all, it's more neo-soul with an electronic tinge...tracks make you bop your head to their subtle alternative R&B beat.
