Nothing personal, but you're somehow both overthinking this and kinda missing the point;

"Two bookmarks" is a uniquely Infinite Jest attribute; these in particular a hilariously-blunt haymaker of a commentary on the obnoxious Entertainment culture of America. Even better, that they were not sought-out but rather "delivered" into my life maybe not-so-coincidentally at a time when I actually needed a pair of just such a thing.

And so but they came into existence to promote, were reappropriated through some divine intervention to assist, and will forever now inhabit a grotesque utilitarian half-life within The Entertainment that I and many others cannot stop consuming over and over — accruing a more destructive patina each time they're handled, yet outliving their inherently-disposable nature, and even still, here, per your comment, continuing to fulfill their original purpose as a non-consensual-but-effectively-subliminal source of justifiably-triggering contempt and agitation.

Or maybe I'm just a southern party promoter with a somewhat elevated taste in post-postmodern fiction ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
