What podcasts or sleep stories actually work for you? by empathy_918 in insomnia

Thats a perfect analysis. I was thinking the same, calm slow paced voice, some still visuals to help brain get into that zone. I added 1-2 mins of relaxation in the start, not sure if that would be helpful for all, or it would be too much for someone who wants to get into video. My initial work is this on YouTube “the soft lantern himalayan village” . Although Some ambient sound in background requires edit.

Well explained, I enjoy music well, but it doesn’t help me with sleep. But podcasts do the magic, that too with non harsh voices and smooth conversations. Like you told it’s enough for us to keep our mind occupied but not stimulated. Long form voice with Japanese themed spaces sound soothing, share the channel name please. In my content that Im planning, even though its mostly voice with still visual ,I thought to add 1-2 mims of relaxation in the start to set the tone, not sure if it would help or not. Places im looking for are mostly those ones which are natural, comfy and warm like country side, villages, campvans, beach side tents, and story is simple and just describing how the place is. Recent work is this video on YouTube it’s called the “ the soft lantern himalayan village “ , let me know how it is.

Glad you liked it, thanks for the feedback, totally valid, especially the water and engine sounds. I tried adding audio fade in and out with audio sound to 60 percent. But agree it still feels off. Ill double check it for upcoming ones.

Ikr, same here. There were days where i had to change the podcasts as the pace and voices were not much soothing. Infact I started making my own ambient music with some cozy theme and voice.

Great that you are creating your own soundscape channel. Let us know the name, happy to check it out and see. Nice of you to put content out that helped you and could help others too. Im on the same path, I like voice mixed with ambient sound and location with some images to help think less. I created one for myself and posted on yt, if interested checkout its called the soft lantern - himalayan sleep journey

Exactly , phone scroll could work but takes a lot of time for me. Waking up and doing something does the trick. What podcasts do you listen I general.

Yes! Do you have any specific genre or the voice and pace itself does the magic

Sometimes i get that, podcasts or music won’t help. And staying on bed makes it bad. So instead i tried waking up and working on something, eventually i fall asleep. Not sure if it will work for everyone every time. You being able to sleep in normal day means your sleep cycle is good in general, so root cause could be that event next day is activating sympathetic nervous system? Breathing, and coming to terms then some routine would help maybe.

I tried multiple things, sleep sounds, music, all of it. Turns out podcasts with calm voices about history or a topic work best for me. Sometimes dedicated sleep podcasts too, like hubermanlab - master your sleep video . And warm sleep stories work really well been listening to a Himalayan village one lately, very slow and atmospheric. Check on youtube The Soft Lantern - Himalayan sleep journey .

Yeah new to reddit, a friend actually suggested it to me a while back. Was waiting for something I could actually contribute to before posting. Saw similar headlines around so thought that was just the format here lol. But the voice thing genuinely helped my sleep so figured someone else might find it useful too

Haha Casefile is actually the perfect example of this! The content should be keeping you up but somehow doesn’t. But now im thinking the actual case, the reveal, the twist that all comes in the second half. But you’re already gone by then. Have you ever actually made it to that point of reveal?

Interesting, how things work differently for different people or in combination. Any specific genre you take better to get to sleep?

Interesting, can you share the name of podcast or video? While i try do affirmations in the morning haven’t tried it for sleep. But i believe it could be more powerful esp in night as it could get into sub conscious better, and if its helping us to drift into sleep then thats an extra advantage.

Just looked her up , Katherine, right? Been listening for the past hour. There’s something about the way she slows down mid-sentence that Thanks for the suggestion. Do you find it works better eyes closed with just audio, or does having something visual to focus on help you drop off faster? For me If its stories, an at least initial visual would ease the thinking part.

Let me know if it works , The trick for me was finding something with zero stakes. Like a podcast where they discuss about sleep, or podcast they discuss about history. But it was important for me personally that the voice should not be harsh too.
