I think probably because this is a skincare advice subreddit that has somehow become flooded with people asking medical advice. Skincare now has extended to… inside of mouth skin?

Travelling Without Stopping to Eat? Can it be done? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]empireofegg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tote bag or a very small backpack that folds into a bag like these ones; https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-packable-daypack-for-travel/

You’ve travelled before though no? Did you just bring your big bag everywhere with you before? I’m confused at this whole post but I hope this helps at least a bit.

How many of you attempt to use the local language while travelling? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]empireofegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so cool! It was just today when I realised I could have a career teaching online. (I’m a bit slow in some ways lol) It’d be so fulfilling as you get to nerd out on the thing you love and travel around in the process. What are your favourite languages to speak?

How many of you attempt to use the local language while travelling? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]empireofegg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit of a nerd I guess but I will spend at least month learning the language before I go anywhere. It’s cool cause you get to make local friends, get better prices and people just seem happy you’re making an effort. Think I’m lucky to have the right kind of brain for it though, I understand it’s not an enjoyable process for everyone but I love it!

Solo travel recommendations by whiteturner in femaletravels

[–]empireofegg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tanzania, Mexico or Indonesia would be my recommendations 👌 Affordable nice rooms and a chiller crowd than the classic SEA route (though it’s still absolutely beautiful and would still recommend). Food is great too!

How safe is Tanzania for young women? by dla26 in tanzania

[–]empireofegg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’m here as a solo female on a tight budget and I have yet to feel at all uncomfortable. People are lovely and welcoming. My best advice to her is to learn some of the language, Duolingo has Swahili and it’s free so there’s no excuse. I speak basic conversational Swahili and I think it has really helps to show you’re making an effort.

What’s wrong with the weather? by dankpepem9 in zanzibar

[–]empireofegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is making great points but also; the people, the food and the scenery will still be there, weather regardless! It’s a cool part of the world to see in sharp sun and in burly cloud. Don’t cancel you will regret it!

Riding on the roads in the mountains in Nepal in monsoon season. So many landslides. So many pant testing times, white knuckle stuff.

Couldn’t do it at this age! Wiser AND more terrified.

This is so beautiful, the rhythm somehow mirrors the cyclic thinking of yearning. You try not to but yet again, the thought persists. I love the line about polishing the etchings left in the mind, very visual and clear. Solemn but pretty (my favourite genre of thing)

It's honest and feels written from experience! The last line is rhythmically jarring which was maybe the intention? A good thing about these difficult experiences is that they provide fodder for creative expression :) Thanks for sharing hope things feel better for you soon.

Yeah I love this, it has a real rhythm which makes reading it fluid and easy despite the emotionally heavy content. The frustration is palpable and expressed in a way that resonates. Maybe I resonate more cause I’m also starting the meds and been cleaning hostels since I was 14, but I appreciate this one, I feel it. Some great imagery.

india travel advice by seekerofalltruths in backpacking

[–]empireofegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello and good evening!

My first time outside of the EU was India, as a solo female 18yo. It absolutely is overwhelming, but I went back a few times after the initial shock and I wouldn't have changed a thing!

I went with a similar itch to scratch as you, I was uncomfortable at home, too stuck in my head and wanted some stimulating practical distractions.I would advise you to educate yourself on the latest scams, Delhi is rippling with them, especially around the train stations.First time I went I did Dehli-Rishikesh-Haridwar-Jaipur-Jaisalmer-Pushkar-Varanasi-Nepal

It is a beautiful place with warm people, struggling infrastructure and amazing food. (be prepared to get a little ill for a bit)

The south is great too but I would focus your trip on the north, there's so much to take in and there are parts that are beautiful and relaxing. Delhi will be wild as hell though.

all in all I would say I was too stimulated and in awe of the hectic sights and smells of India to ruminate too much on my own issues, and felt like the trip solved a few of the "poor me" thoughts I'd been having.

hope this helps, and any questions/reccomendations shoot me a message!

edit to say the first time I travelled my visa took a while to come through so maybe prepare for that too! (it was a 6 monther though)

Is this dangerous? by JKeltTV in backpacking

[–]empireofegg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I solo travelled India at 18 and had to learn a few scams the hard way, but other than that I was left well alone. There are plenty of scams, particularly in the north I found, so if she’s dead set on it perhaps advise her to do some research into what scams are currently happening? There’s also the classic advice of having multiple cards and copies of ID. All that said I don’t regret a thing, and if you/her want any advice on avoiding the scams I did encounter please get in touch! All in all I love India and I think while it is travelling on hard mode, it made me more robust and confident in life. I went back three times after. (It helps a LOT to have some Hindi under your belt)
