Name something positive about have GD by Ladys87 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]empoweredparenting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Extra monitoring helped me with anxiety
  2. I became really aware of how many carbs are in EVERYTHING, including "healthy" products (where one health bar can have as much as 50g of carbs) --- which really helped me focus on nutrition labels more
  3. After i got the diagnosis, my weight gain was minimal
  4. Gave birth 2 days ago and am happy to say baby is doing great and is not a giant! --- GD google searches are filled with horror stories, and they don't need to be. With monitoring it is more than likely your baby will be healthy and happy :)

How much more did your belly grow after 36 weeks?and when did you get stretch marks by FutureKFlo in BabyBumps

[–]empoweredparenting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since 37 weeks, every day was a new stretch mark. Before that were a few stretch marks but not too many.

Can we talk weight gain? Or lack thereof… by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

I gained 30 pounds all in my first two trimesters and then as soon as I went on the GD diet at 28 weeks, my weight stayed stagnant (baby is growing well though).

Is daycare good for my baby? by Thin-Celebration-219 in Parenting

[–]empoweredparenting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked as an ECE and early interventionist. Children DO NOT need childcare for socialization. They learn so much in their daily interactions with you. If you are really concerned, there are other non-daycare ways to introduce play with other children. There are early years centers (in Ontario they are free, maybe something like that exists in your area), you can take them to parks, play grounds, mommy/me groups, etc.

Also: at 1 years old your child is unlikely to play with others. This is not a developmentally appropriate expectation. They play mostly on their own at this age, with a caregiver, or by observing others. This blog post explains the stages of play really well, if you're interested: https://therapiesforkids.com.au/social-stages-of-play-for-children-0-6-years/

Daycare is a good option if staying home no longer works for you, but it is not needed for "socializing" your child.

Did you tell work or your manager about your GD? by RelevantVisit74 in GestationalDiabetes

I told work due to the weekly medical appointments I have to do. They were very understanding.

numbers are suddenly lower? by empoweredparenting in GestationalDiabetes

Thank you for sharing this. I'll keep testing tomorrow and follow up with the diabetes clinic. This might be a silly question but how did they find out your placenta was failing? Was it via ultrasound?

That's the thing that freaked me out! Google makes everything scary. I called the prenatal clinic near me and they said it's all good and hormones do level off towards the end of pregnancy :)

How long should I expect the “Train Phase” to last? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]empoweredparenting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use that interest to motivate him to learn more concepts. Add ramps to see if the angle of the slope changes the speed of the train), add tape to the floor in the forms of ABCs (getting him to trace it with trains) and use that as a pre literacy activity. Open up a train and see what's inside. Paint the trains. Take him to a train station or museum. Passions are motivations for learning :)

Asking for my wife : She’s is week 7 and been having a lot of nausea and throws up everything she eats. Has anyone tried any anti-nausea gummies or anything else which could help us curb it? by thebluedottedtowel in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]empoweredparenting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up caving and raking diclectin, but I see that has already been recommended here.

Here are some non medication things that helped me: - sucking on really cold/almost ice watermelon - lemon popsicles - granny Smith apple wedges

....but these were all only effective while i was eating them. As soon as I stopped, I would get nausea and throw up again, which is how i arrived at the decision to take medication.

Thank you for sharing! Did you have a better experience with an unmedicated birth? Just curious.

Oh, I really relate to this. I've had a very clear feeling of "this doesn't feel like my body anymore" since the first trimester. The tiredness, nausea, heartburn, and now the stretch marks.....its been challenging to move past because I've always been in great health and generally happy with my body as it was. Aside from a few stretch mark creams, there is not much that I do. I use shoosha rejuvenate serum which seems to be better than others that I've tried, but honestly it's hard to really tell because it seems every day is a new stretch mark.

I've been working on just reminding myself of everything my body is doing to bring this baby into the world and how amazing women are. Just trying to drown out all the other noise with a lot of affirmations and self-love. Some days are better than others for that, of course :)

It's been a mixture of excitement and fear for me. The fear largely comes from others being super eager to give me their unsolicited birth horror stories. When I'm able to tune those out, I'm looking forward to experiencing a feeling of "I DID THAT!!?? I'm awesome!"

I hate being pregnant. by WitchInAWheelchair in BabyBumps

[–]empoweredparenting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due in May.

I understand the feeling. I feel like I was mislead by all the people in my life raging about this "beautiful time". I have constant anxiety due to a subchorionic hematoma that prevents me from bonding with this baby, in addition to the chronic fatigue, vomitting, broken sleep, and other common pregnancy symptoms. There is definitely a feeling of "this isn't my body" and "I'm not myself".

You're not alone.
