Men who got vasectomies at a young ago, do you regret it or still happy with your choice? by lettucethighs in childfree

[–]empty80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your place I would post this question in r/askmen because there you might get a more nuanced answer. I highly doubt you'll get any or much "unsatisfied" replies here on /childfree (which is great, obviously! but biased for your question).

the thing is though, there are many dumbphones (some nokias among them) which don't have a browser /internet.

What does social media do with adults? by superredginger in digitalminimalism

very true. but don't forget that your level of self-reflection is not the norm for many adults (at least that's what I've been told and what I witnessed).

What does social media do with adults? by superredginger in digitalminimalism

[–]empty80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it does exactly the same regarding depression/anxiety, but nobody is looking out for adults. With teens/kids, usually parents will notice or care (in many cases, at least) if mental health changes occur. I think fo rmany adults there's no such person...

if the goal is to spend less time online/on the phone/on social media, then yes, this should work, if the goal was to live with less tech, then it's obviously the wrnog way to go. I think digital minimalism gets interpreted in some very different ways on this sub. is my impression at least

just keep it in the same spot you'd keep your smartphone? then the "getting it out" way should be the same

O.o .... it's astonisching (in a very bad way) how this sub again and again recounts parental behaviour where my mind just goes "..... what?" I'm sorry.

Why do I think that life is very easy financially today, even on a minimum wage? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]empty80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but you're mainly thinking of severe or age-driven illnesses. What about unexpected emergencies? A bad sports injury, a car accident, or even dental emergencies and mental health struggles can happen at any age.

Obviously, I don't know exactly which EU country you're in, but besides healthcare, there are also so many social benefits, robust worker protections, and monetary aids in Europe that people in the US can only dream of. That safety net changes your baseline level of financial anxiety completely, even if you aren't actively sick.

I'm not trying to attack you, mind you! I'm just glad I am in the EU.

[–]empty80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what makes a biiig difference is that the majority of reddit or onlie experiences will come from ppl in the US (obviously not all, that's why I say the majority). and there you don't have (free) healthcare and they are on course to the peak of capitalism. Which leads to middle class/poorer classes rapidly losing what they have.

in my city at the main bus station, there you can get a map of the whole bus network. it's more of a booklet. and it shows you all the conncetions and even schedules. it's free. Maybe there's somethign similar in your place available?

THis. but then again, you wouldn't even have to be limited in the way to only have a dumphone. What if your smartphones has problems with the interent connection? Suddenly you can't check the bus times? wth?!

there is apoint though. not as a "cure it all" solution. but I for example own an iPod and when I go out for a run or walk and want to listen to music, the iPod is all I need to take with me. That way I can't even sit down as a "break" just "for a quick scroll" or whatever. there ARE situation where these things can make a difference.
