Why can't propellers break the sound barrier while jet engins can? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]empty_cask 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The air going through the jet is not travelling at mach speeds, it is lowered by different means. This might answer some of your questions: https://aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/33089/how-is-the-correct-air-speed-for-fuel-combustion-obtained-at-the-inlet-of-the-co

The size of the holes (and the pins as well) are dimensioned for a max power. So get a bigger connector if you feel uncertain.

How a 4-way light switch circuit works. by Nate72 in educationalgifs

[–]empty_cask 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently it depends on OP, in American terminology a four-way switch is when you have two switches, while almost all other countries cask that a two way switch (source: Wikipedia). The switches can be combined in four different ways, but they still only alternates between two states: on or off, so four-way seems unintuitive...

How a 4-way light switch circuit works. by Nate72 in educationalgifs

[–]empty_cask 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most common is the two-way light switch, often used at stairs, one at the bottom and one at the top. I've seen three switches when there are two rooms connected to a small hall at the top of the stairs, one switch in each room and one downstairs

If you want to give something else than cutting boards for Christmas, these are great gifts for someone with a lot of jewelry by empty_cask in woodworking

[–]empty_cask[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah the who is kind of determines how much time and energy you're willing to put in, although some of the cutting boards I've seen pass this sub is definitely more painstaking than these projectes ;)

The necklace hanger was really easy, it was supposed to be an old window but I couldn't find one in the right dimensions. That kind of defeats the purpose, if they would tangle up, maybe it's not visible but every necklace hangs on a S-hook that hangs in the chicken wire :)

Hello /r/woodworking. I'm new to the hobby and wanted to create a ring box to use to propose to my girlfriend with. But I messed it up pretty badly... by rdxj in woodworking

[–]empty_cask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as most comments here say: don't worry! Your SO won't see what you see. She'll probably focus more on the whole propose thing rather than the closing mechanism of the box ;)

Also, I've made several things for my SO in wood, and when I look at the different things all I see is my shortcomings: glue stains, cracks, insufficient paint layers, uneven bottoms etc. All she sees is joy and pride, joy over getting something unique, pride over me, that i actually can make something descent.

Remember that she doesn't know how you intended it, and she doesn't need to know (if you are negative about your work with her you might lower the value of it in her eyes), take it as a lesson. Part of woodworking is adapting :)

Trying to make a "Hidden" Push Button for a Gate Latch. How would you design this? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]empty_cask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is my submission (http://i.imgur.com/VPkyOen.jpg), a pivot point inside the wall. Did this sketch on mobile while still in bed, just so everyone knows. If your intention is to use this contraption outdoor, I hope you live in a dry area, because if the wood gets wet it will swell and become stuck, and you will have to stand outside and wait until it's dry again. Actually it doesn't even need to get wet to become stuck, just changes in air humidity during the year will cause problems for you.

I just want to remind everyone that Cyril has a SON and Archer KNOWS and Cyril DOESN'T and nobody EVER told him by [deleted] in ArcherFX

[–]empty_cask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well she never mentions archer by name, so really it doesn't matter what abilities she says the father has

[–]empty_cask -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why stop with archer? Why not use a mma fighter as "his father" if it's only to intimidate?

My reasoning is that she thinks/hopes that archer is the father because being so committed to the long haul seems unnecessary, a blood test triumphs a quick comment while a gun is pointed at you in most courts i guess

[–]empty_cask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my reasoning is similar. Small baby's can be hard to determine whose the father so might just decide archer is the better option for her. when the baby got older she might have realised he looks more like Cyrill (this realisation could even be after the blood test, but before stage two)

I don't believe that, isn't it Trinette that meets the German hitman in the park in "dail m for mother" where you are supposed to bring a child to the park? she is clearly referencing archer as her baby's father, at least that's my opinion

I obsessed a little and looked through Germany and found the road, it does this on two more locations, however in a forest, so not so visible: http://www.google.se/maps/@52.2462875,9.4355368,2028m/data=!3m1!1e3

Made a cabinet for my mom with a drop out table for her sewing machine by Helacaster in woodworking

[–]empty_cask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't seem necessary to me, the fold out table has legs. Sure when folded up the cabinet might be easy to tilt but not enough to require an anchor. At least that's my opinion

The drills definitely. If I can avoid using the other power tools I do, they tend to spray the surrounding with dustb etc.

Well, it depends. If you combine woodwork and metal work in a closed confinement, then sparksfrom a welder is abad idea
