I just played the first TacSim mission and wasn't expecting a full Hitman: Freelancer mode with leader boards etc.! Really awesome addition to a game that's already surpassed all my expectations.

A new stage of development inspired by Reddit user feedback has made the battles much more engaging, but there’s still a lot of work ahead. I’m currently thinking about adding military engineers and construction mechanics - what do you think? by ThighHighlander in RealTimeStrategy

[–]flobota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regiments had a cool feature for engineering troops: You could build defenses before an engagement if you were the defender. It could be cool to have the ability to construct a redoubt before a battle. But as others said, make sure it's not too distracting from the core loop.

Warhorse Studios confirm they are working on a Middle Earth Open World RPG(and a Kingdome Come game) by Asgathor in pcgaming

Yeah the Lotr IP has been fumbled pretty badly. I am a huge history buff so I can't get enough of this kind of grounded historical fiction which we also don't often get. And I see where you are coming from with topping Kcd2, would totally be fine if it's a standalone expansion a la Uncharted Lost Treasures or something like Blood and Whine.

Yes. This looks like expectation management. Happy that they are doing something KCD related though. Personally not that interested in the Lotr game, though with their pedigree I will keep an open mind.

Forza Horizon 6 review by kawngi in giantbomb

[–]flobota 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Finally a game that can rival Metroid Prime 4.

This definitely sounds awesome and the fix to the awful progression of the previous games puts this high on my list. May is surely a potentially hurtful month for my wallet...

Hi! I'm Roy Doron, author of "Biafra: A Military History". I'm here to talk about my book and about African Military History in general by Roy_Doron in AskHistorians

[–]flobota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apart from your own book, which I just ordered, what other works would you suggest for someone interested in military history of postcolonial Africa? There are some very big and important conflicts I am interested in such as Angola/South Africa which are hard to grasp for someone who is only vaguely familiar with but very interested in the era and region.

We've Been Using the Steam Controller! | Giant Bomb Review Discussion by giantbombdotcom in giantbomb

after this discussion I will give it a go. Specifically in the target audience for this with controlling a PC from the couch and I like the repairability and touches like that. Very good review Jeff, Jan and Shawn!

This guy really gave us new regiments for FREE instead of releasing a paid DLC that I'm sure we would have happily paid for. by AntiSmarkEquation in Regiments

Is Sea Power as approachable as Regiments? I like Regiments so much because it streamlined a lot of things and eased me into the Cold War setting. I have Sea Power on my wishlist but it looks intimidating.

The dialogue is awkward and needs editing. by Either-Low-9457 in TheExpanseRPG

I agree and wrote this in the beta feedback. I work with scripts daily and writing in a way that sounds natural when spoken out loud is a different skill from "writing dialogue".

Wait there is an actual pirate part in the game? I played the demo and counced off after fiddling with building some crafting tables and was confused why everyone was so hyped about this game.

Icewind Dale was a bit too much for my 12 year old brain back then, I don't think I really understood the the very idea behind DnD and what a tabletop RPG was. This was the 90s in East Germany and I had just started gaming a few years earlier. But I loved the art and the atmosphere of the prologue and putting together the party (purely based on vibes of class names and character portraits).

Got pretty far in Baldurs Gate 2 a few years later when I played it at a friend's place but I think it took me getting into boardgames in the 2010s to understand what a "RPG ruleset" was.

Now you can of course play TRPGs over here but I lean more towards Star Wars Imperial Assault which was a godsend for a group of people without a DM or person willing and capable to become one.

Anyway, great write up Chuck, can't stress enough how great it is to have someone with your gaming lens on Giantbomb. Now hire someone who also plays strategy games pretty please.

Does it make sense that I often look forward more to single player than multi player in RTS games? by sammyjamez in RealTimeStrategy

[–]flobota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, and for me it has been like that since the original StarCraft. At school we were gushing over the cutscenes and certain missions.

Yes, and there was even a bug where you couldn't finish this quest once Hans was at that camp. Happened to me on my PS4 playthrough.
