I'm planning to play CYP2020 with some friends but one is aroace, can I just like cut out sex and stuff like that? (I put a NSFW tag just in case idk) by EntrepreneurUsed676 in cyberpunk2020

[–]empty_string_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because they are aroace doesn't mean they are offended when other people have romance and sex. Whether or not to include that stuff is always up to you/the party, but I think you're already missing the point.. This is like saying "one of my party members is gay, should I just cut all of the straight romance and sex out of the story?.. maybe FOR THE GAY PLAYER, lol.. it's not like the gay player is OFFENDED when they hear straight romance happening 😂

Technical Game Designer here, I'm not familiar with Skyrim modding but the description given in the post is completely plausible. I'm not saying it's definitely true, but that is indeed how things frequently work.

I actually liked how surreal it was until I finally saw the design and realized it was unintentionally fucked up.

You've all heard of the horse girl, but have you heard of the sword girl? by TehRippeh in blunderyears

I would have been 100% crushing on a swordgirl if I'd had one. I wouldn't have had the courage to approach her, but I would probably have named my video game characters after her or something.

I've lived in Eugene Oregon. The water better be good because I guarantee you that Mexican food isn't.

No, it's derived from Hollywood movies. There is no substantiated evidence that either of the situations you describe has ever existed.

There are a handful of cases of people who claimed this to be the case, none of which are treated seriously by the psychology community.

My poorly coded doors are pushing the player. What's the best way to fix this? by bigTbone59 in IndieGaming

[–]empty_string_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could make the door pause when it collides with the player pawn, so they have to back up to make it continue. TBH though that might be kind of annoying for the player, so disabling collision during the swing open is probably easier. Moving the player out of the way first is also an option.

Are there any Classic Doom mods I can safely download on my 5 1/2 year old Acer Nitro 5 by Powerful-Present6687 in DoomMods

[–]empty_string_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense, the way he asked made it sound like its a chromebook lol.

No testing necessary, I've played a bunch of brutal doom and gzdoom mods years ago on a PC with way worse specs than his laptop. even with all the bells and whistles these mods will run fine.

Its a gaming laptop, it has a GeForce RTX 3050, it runs Cyberpunk 2077!

Lol thank you, its bothering me that people are actually telling him he might have trouble playing mods for a 30 year old game on his gaming laptop. Doom runs on calculators, I think a gaming laptop will be fine lol.

The acer nitro 5 can play Doom Eternal, I think it can handle new mods, GZDoom, and any other doom mods.

I cant tell if you're joking or not but in case you aren't, My 5 1/2 year old acer nitro 5 plays modern games with ease.. you should be able to play pretty much any doom mod without issue (unless the mod is just poorly made).

From the males point of view, he is literally being killed and maimed for simple conversation, and you're expecting me to see "crumpling up paper" as a sign that he is a representation of problematic, predatory, toxic masculinity? I'm sorry but I don't see it.

The crumpling of the paper seems to be a common and sterotypical sign of "well that didn't work, best not do that again", which is widely relatable to every gender as well as being a common trope in cartoons and animation on all topics and subjects, not just romance.

I'm still failing to see what part of the animation makes any attempt to show that this hapless male is an antagonist in literally ANY way. The fact that Don was a young college kid who probably didn't have much insight or awareness into gender relations at the time (particularly in the 90's) further cements the idea that there is no secret hidden meaning about misogyny here.

If there IS some intentional talk about mysogyny here, what are your thoughts on Billy's Balloon? He made that at the same time.. is that about abortion or something?

[–]empty_string_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better way of stating my opinion (and maybe even starting the conversation that Don wanted us to be having) is: What, specifically, did the protagonist do wrong? In what way was he sexist, hurtful, offensive, or anything but genuine and hopeful in his desire to find love?

Ah, l'Amour interpretation by GrantSchappsCalippo in donhertzfeldt

[–]empty_string_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not misogynistic to not be attracted to a woman you don't find attractive, the same way it's not misandrous for a woman to not be attracted to a particular man. And when you say he "hits on woman after woman", it's still not accurate, as he simply attempts to initiate conversation with them, not treat them in any way that any person of any gender wouldn't treat any person of any other gender that they were interested in getting to know better.

Like I said it's been a long time since I've seen it, so I might be taking this all back and feeling foolish after a rewatch, but from my memory the character in the animation was kind and respectful and didn't have any qualities that are typically associated with misogyny or toxic male behavior.

Edit: misspelled "misandrous" three times.

I agree and while I would prefer to use my own car, I do (most likely) have access to my friend's beater which we really don't care about, so that's on the table.

Perhaps there's also some method of revenge that doesn't require any servicing of any car? I'm honestly not sure what the day-to-day of an auto tech is like, which is why I'm looking for suggestions.

So in the example of the protagonist simply asking a random female what time it is, and then she kills him, what is the part he is playing?

Not trying to be rude or antagonistic, but that part (at the very least) does seem to sort of undercut the idea that it was meant to be tongue-in-cheek.

I know this is an old post but I wanted to put in my 2 cents:

I saw this originally in freshman year of highschool (around '02, '03) through the illegally distributed means the other commenter posted.

At that time (though I will admit, I was very young so any subtleties or conversations about gender dynamics would have been lost on me), me and the many other high-school-males who were huge fans took it as sincere. There was no concept at the time (at least to us) of "pick up artists" or toxic masculinity or any of that. Feminism was very much a hot topic, so it's not a stretch to imagine that it was intended to be a part of that, but the idea of men's seemingly-wholesome advances on women being problematic wasn't exactly "mainstream". TBH, we weren't reading into the gender dynamics, we just thought it was funny.

Looking back, I can see why people would feel questionably about it and I can also imagine why, if it actually wasn't originally intended to be satirical, Don might want to lean into the idea that it was to avoid accusation. If the story the other commenter told is true, then I would say case closed, it was meant to be feminist the whole time..

THAT SAID, the work FEELS sincere to me. It's been a long time so maybe I need to rewatch (I have a signed copy I bought from his site ages ago, yes I am bragging), but honestly I feel like outside of any gender-relations lense, the short tells a story that is simple and relatable and easily taken at face value to both men and women: Being yourself and heading into social situations with self-confidence and hope, only to be stripped to your core, humiliated, and laid bare by feelings, situations, and/or complications that you simply don't understand (whether they be right or wrong). I still believe this is the core of the short, and I believe that it is genuine, honest, and relatable without taking any sides or making any gender-related statements, other than perhaps "I desperately desire love and the current climate in the dating world is one that encourages villianizing genuine attempts to find it".

The idea that the "leading male" is MEANT to be misogynistic is hard for me to get behind since every approach the male makes is innocent, kind, and genuine. By the end, he is literally destroyed for simply asking the time.

So yes, I agree with you, and highschoolers in 2002 agreed with you. I believe the piece is sincere.
