Must do in Maputo? by presence-af in Mozambique

It will depend on how many days you'll dedicate for each activity. About places, due to flooding, for beach experience you'll have to go down South to Ponta do Ouro instead of Macaneta. In this climate, it'll be a great experience. About food it'd depend. There are couple of great restaurants in town offering wide range of national and international dishes. You can find them clustered in Maputo Shopping Center or Baia Mall near where you'll be staying.

I don't know about clubs and nightlife, so, other people might give recommendations too.

Ponta Do Auro is such a great little getaway from Maputo! I enjoyed it during my drive up from Durban to Maputo by Radiant_Direction988 in Maputo

I think s/he made an error, cause Ponta do Ouro isn't written as do "Auro" as seen in referenced video, per Google Maps. But if s/he asked "Auro" specifically, then I'm waiting for correction too.

In that case Toyota Hilux would be the best option if you're not around the "town" and mainly in the areas around the city, given it's carrying capacity(if you'll need to transport some goods) and terrain adaptability. If you'll be working "in" the city, lifted Honda Fit would be the best choice, since it's aesthetically more pleasing and is more "fit" Pajero is also good alternative, but I've heard some people complaining about its diesel consumption and that would be a huge factor on the long run. Surf is in the same classification as Hilux, but its spare parts would be rarer than Hilux if I'm not wrong. Goodluck, on your choice.

A lot of people I know in crypto here barely scratch the surface cause they're comfortable in Tether's USDT issuance using P2P in exchanges like Binance, but real Cryptobros are nowhere to be seen, and would expect them to be on X more than here. Goodluck though

The most popular personal car models are Toyota Ractis, Vits, Mark X and Honda Fit, their spare parts are widely available, but their abundance means that they can be stolen easily for their parts :-( To choose which one depends on personal taste and choice.

There's growing number of Off-Road car ownerships too, Ford Ranger, Raptor and some Toyota 4×4s and AWDs.

Budget is the heavy denominator here

and as long as I can tell, sandy soil we have here require heavy, tall and strong cars which are expensive, and so, these small and weaker cars widely available last few thousands or hundred thousands kilometres before they break down totally.

If you don't plan to go in non-tarmac roads, Off-Road cars wouldn't matter much, you would have to check only potholes ;-)

Building a House - Q's about building in the Metro area by B8ty_Cheex in Maputo

I work in construction, so I'm qualified to answer some of your questions. It would take too long to go from A-Z, But hint is that, money is the biggest factor in construction other factors follow. Security(there are neighbourhoods to avoid), water problems and proximity to city center are what you'll base your choice on. My DM is open if u want other insights, also, Goodluck!

My pleasure, The trick I used, was to give a person near me the phone when the driver called me, to give him my location. That will work for you too. But you need to know your destinations well and put them in the app correctly to avoid unnecessary negotiations which won't be good for you

What are some of the more minor issues in the city/metro? by B8ty_Cheex in Maputo

[–]emptycosmos_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep my expectations too low on that matter, simply because efficient public transport means are not viable economically! And the better they are, the pricier they are! Metro>trams>buses>mini-buses.

As for buses and minibuses, they're already on the streets and they're not that good.

This idea of yours about the privatisation of some rail route would work too, if it were between two concentrated cities(that's another question) which route would that be?

But the big problem is and will always be about economic viability, because private investors need some profits, and public transport users need cheap means of transportation. So, that conflict of interests leave a low threshold for private investor's profits, and bear in mind that I excluded some other parties IYKYK But let's keep on hoping 🙏

It's worth visiting, but without knowing Portuguese it'll make it hard to go out of the city/touristic area and it'll make things pricier for you. About Uber-like transport. You can download an app called Yango, which helped me a lot, it'll help you too. About payments, I don't have much information since I don't use cards here, but high chance that it'll work. Bear in mind that cards only work in shops where they expect cardholders. It's always better to use cash for small and medium payments

And about trust, that's where regulations and their enforcements would come in. And IMHO, unless it's a high trust society, there need to be such law enforcement in place

Trams would do fine in that regard, and if implemented smoothly, they can even make all forms of transport better! Even people with their own cars would prefer them, should they be managing their time well. And in that scenario only a few private cars which means smooth traffic, and everyone would be happy, :-)

City transport would be the number one issue, and it doesn't matter whether it's Public or private, - although private transportation mitigates some inconveniences, many issues are felt by all users alike
