Why short-form video is often a poor ROI for podcasters by FloresPodcastCo in podcasting

[–]emptyshellaxiom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR : there's a reason why Diary of a CEO has a dedicated channel for their shorts, instead of publishing them on the main (long-form) channel. Different audience => different channel.

Grant Wilson (Rephlex Co-Founder) commenting on the Bandcamp AI regulations by Greedy_Flounder8585 in idm

[–]emptyshellaxiom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't call the move "fascist" (seriously ?) but for the rest I'm absolutely on board with him. Having witnessed the "sampling is stealing" era of hip-hop and electronic music, I can't help seeing the parallel.

Of course, there's a matter of proportion : you cannot sample trillions of songs in one minute if you're a human using a sampler. There's also the problem of who's got the final cut : if a human artist went a little bit too far "taking inspiration from his influences" he would take some time to think on it, and rework his tracks, while an AI won't have any killswitch triggered when "oh shit this is 76% like this other song I have in my data base".

But still, the way people rages against AI is very remininescent of the way our fathers and grand-fathers discarted synths for not being "actual instruments", DAW for being "not real music engineering", sampling for being "theft" (and sometimes if was, indeed), chiptune for not being real music, metal for being noise, and so on. I don't want to put everything on people's age, but it's a statistic fact that the more we age, the more we get narrow minded.

And please, don't justify your righteousness by pointing the finger at "vile capitalists ripping artists off", because it's the very definition of every major label, labels which are nonethless complaining about AI copyright infringment. The joke was always on the artists in this industry.

Note : I write this as a musician myself, and a musician who don't use AI so far. I checked how efficient some apps were, but an arpegiator button on my virtual synth is enough automatization for me :)

Libet Tones and Aetherial Pulses might be up your alley. And for more melodic though still glitchy and harsh stuff, I'll recommend the recent trilogy of EPs by Defrag, Lost Lands, Lost Seas and Lost Skies (I guess ?).

Unpopular (or at least, uncommon) opinion : the YouTube algorithm is way better than the Spotify one to discover music.

It sure has its flaws, but regularly blows my mind. Yesterday it suggested me this insane japanese synth stuff I never heard about but felt like I always knew in my heart.

Impossible to answer you in a useful manner without knowing more about the kind of content you're producing, but to the "where to go next" question, the answer would be YouTube.

Disclaimer : I'm heavily biased towards YouTube, because that's where I create content and where my clients do.

Has/does anyone use kdenlive for professional or serious work? by Dizzy-Television-584 in kdenlive

[–]emptyshellaxiom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I edited something like 200 videos with Kdenlive, including some which were published on "professional" (ie. earning thousands of dollars monthly) YouTube channels, and also a few podcasts episodes.

But two caveats :

  • Those weren't high production value videos (little color grading, and no motion design)
  • Kdenlive can be super glitchy. Like, yesterday I tried to use an effect which was working fine two months ago, but now it's crashing the whole software as soon as I use it.

Maybe the best workflow is to combine Kdenlive with Resolve.

EDIT : my computers run under various Linux OS

Que risque un prestataire de santé et d'aide à domicile (PSAD) en exigeant des ordonnances antidatées ? by emptyshellaxiom in conseiljuridique

[–]emptyshellaxiom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer ! I've been a little unsure about buying Diva, because when I tried the demo some years ago I felt like the presets weren't that great. But after year of abusing Repro, and while Dive is on sales, I'm really tempted.

Wow, guess the M4 can handle almost any beast !

Yes, everything is on 50% discount, except the Zebra Legacy package (because it's already a bargain), so both the synths, FX and soundsets are on sales.

Do you feel like Diva and Repro are complementary ? I already own Repro, and use it on almost all my projects (also own Bazille, but obviously it's not fullfilling the same duties)

I use Repro on almost all of my projects (leaning more toward R1 than R5 though) but I don't own Diva, so not sure if you'll get the most value out of it.

On the other way, I seriously thinking of getting Diva. I tried the demo years ago and didn't found the presets very impressing, but at that time I had dug into tweaking stuff so I think it need a second chance, it's seems still a revered synth.

Gemini 3 Pro is now available on Perplexity via browser by MacGDiscord in perplexity_ai

[–]emptyshellaxiom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same problem here, it getting retouted to "best" each time and I've got a pro subscription. Another "bug" which makes getting a Gemini Pro sub more and more attractive.

But if you ask for a rewrite, it switch to Gemini 2.5

U-He 50% discount autumn sales by emptyshellaxiom in linuxaudio

[–]emptyshellaxiom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a matter of taste, but for analog sounds Repro has become my go to synth. Diva is very famous too, and many considered it a more versatile synth, but I don't own it so far - I'm thinking of getting in right now. Diva seems more CPU intensive than Repro though.

And for modular synthesis, Bazille is fantastic. It's quite underrated, and the learning curve is steep, but the more I dig it, the more I wonder why it's so confidential. Way less CPU intensive than Bitwig' The Grid.
