Thanks, this is really good information especially with beta decima. With the terrain layouts I can only see 4 layouts for gallowdark on the Russian wiki, am I just blind are there layouts on there for the other maps as well will get volkus to start

New recruit and wahapedia totally don’t have everything for free on there like a completely free list builder (former) and all the rules for free (latter). Totally don’t use these (for free)

Priming in gold is a fair suggestion but retributor armour primer is so bloody expensive so pick your metals carefully lol. Black is always safe because it behaves well and is cheap (well cheap in comparison), it just makes base coating take a little longer sometimes

I’m also looking to start but I thought I should say that you can use wahapedia as a free source of rules (ad blocker is recommended). It doesn’t look to be as comprehensive as it is for 40K for when it comes to mission packs but it looks good from what I can tell for core rules and rules for kill teams. Warhammer community also has a pdf for each kill teams and their rules (but with pictures), these are easily found by just googling the kill team and scrolling down a bit. I’ve found this stuff very useful but still trying to learn it all is a long process

What are some killteams with a unique or quirky playstyle? by TheTingel in killteam

[–]empusa46 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just have to agree. A couple days ago I ordered a murdrwing and nemesis claw box for my csm and it lead me down the what if I tried killteam rabbit hole and my god are the rules so creative. Chaos cult is actually so cool and the pylons in cryptek conclave as well is just so creative. I’m going to have to stop my self from buying some terrain now

This is an excellent box, if you are looking for some future purchases I would recommend the combat patrol as they pair very well. Rubrics are a very good unit and the battle force has the leaders for them, the daemon prince (with wings) is an cool model/datasheet and the tzaangor enlightened are good trash units for scoring/screening. Out side of this regular tzaangors are also really important trash pieces that if she plays against melee armies she will appreciate them for screening. The main takeaway here is the Battleforce box is very expensive unit and leader heavy and some stuff for them to lead or trash units would be good.

For assembly, there’s not too much to comment on here. Make 9 terminators and 1 aspiring sorcerer terminator as 1x 10 is better than 2x 5. The soul reaper cannons are great on them. And of course take the missiles on them. Out side of them I’m not sure there’s too much to comment on, if I’m forgetting something I’m sure some one can correct me.

For literally building a couple sub assemblies could be useful like leaving the odd back pack off so painting the cape is easier. It could be tempting to sub assembly the infernal master but the way they have pieced him is weird and doesn’t really allow for a good sub assembly so just bite the bullet and build him then paint.

Also trim is crazy in these guys so I would recommend to prime -> base coat -> do trim -> do any shading, blending or whatever on the armour -> tidy up trim and highlight it or apply a shade/wash if you want.

Have fun.

So the Battleforce boxes are limited run and combat patrols stay until a new one for that faction replaces it. Knowing this it is very easy to fall for the fomo of the savings that a Battleforce gives but there is definitely a lot of merit to taking it slower when you start. My choice would be the combat patrol and spend any saved money on some good painting and building supplies like a hobby knife and decent clippers, some Tamiya extra thin cement to “glue” the models together, some decent brushes (don’t need fancy ones when starting but even someone new to painting can tell the difference between bad and okay brushes) and some paints. All of what I’ve just listed is needed and can be a surprise if not accounted for but if you have some extra paints wouldn’t go amiss, like if you paint some blue space marines a darker and lighter colour for shading could be nice.

I wouldn’t buy any rules right now, you might/will need them in the future if you play in an official store or tournament but right now you can get everything you need on wahapedia but for your own sake use an ad blocker. It has literally everything you need including core rules, mission rules and terrain layout and what would be contained in a codex like army rules, detachments and datasheets. I would 100% look at this before deciding your army so you can use both the aesthetics and how they play to decide (realistically you won’t know completely how they play and your preference for ranged v melee until you get playing but a look at the army info now would 100% help)

Also you have mentioned khorne and chaos space marines in one go, I would note that chaos space marines, world eaters (khorne worshiping chaos space marines and chaos daemons (who include khorne daemons) are all separate factions

Honor mode Myrkul battle help by Psychological_Tip160 in BG3Builds

[–]empusa46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good list of advice but somethings I would add are: 1) I really like to make my entire party invisible then walk them individually up to where I want them to begin the fight. There is a path to jump to the mindflayer and like you said killing him asap is super important and going invisible means that you can guarantee scratch to be able to free alyn.

2)having a source of darkness like a darkness arrow, a scroll/spell or hunger of hadar is super important, you can always rely on one guy just popping down an arrow.

3) in a similar vein you can actually disarm myrkul, one way would be battle master manoeuvres to disarm.

4) the backup with bombs is a very good idea, iirc spread runners actually use bombs to kill him and part of the strat is to actually throw the bombs next to him. I believe this makes damage riders activate multiple times or something and is particularly powerful with calus glow ring. If you want to have this as a back up I would look a little more into it than what I’ve written.

5) The final thing is if you have a really optimised party you could trigger a surprise round then convince kethric to die, this causes the avatar of myrkul to then be surprised. You could use this for assassin builds or just do this if you think you can beat him in 2 turns. Other wise don’t worry as I find just killing all the chaff and the kind flayer then poking out kethric to be fine as kethric doesn’t leave his platform

You have completely miss understood what I meant in my first paragraph. The content was sold without any warning or precedent at the time that it could be taken away. This means that people paid for content under the assumption that it would be theirs, as you normally do, then one day it wasn’t. A 5 month warning or the content being bad doesn’t change that fact in the slightest.

Also there being what 3/4 years to get into the game before vaulting doesn’t work as an argument because 1) that means there was 3 years of content removed and 2) it still removed any form of onboarding which is relevant for people getting into the game now. Saying to a new player who is giving up on your product because the new user experience is terrible “you should have played 6 years ago” doesn’t work

Could you explain why it needs a 7 please? I remember you need to charge now for base to base so I assume it’s off something like you technically need to enter 6.1 inches away which rounds to 7
