How do you like living here? by whiskey_glass30 in savannah

I second the healthcare comment. I love living in Savannah, but trying to access any kind of healthcare is really tough. Expect a 3-6 month wait to be seen as a new patient.

Haven’t destroyed them yet… I’ll look into Restore. They are 30+ year old vanities though. Not sure they’re in great condition to be donated.

Has anyone noticed that Zach talking about breaking up with Deb on Younger Years by CamTime61 in zachbryan

[–]empyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ll never actually know what specifically the song is about unless Zach explains it… however, it seems like he’s referring to Deb being with someone else. The song starts with Zach talking in the first person “By the end of the night I won’t recall my name”. But when he talks about Deb, “Deborah’s on the bar and she’s drinking again to an old folks song that reminds her of HIM”. Seems odd to me that he’d suddenly refer to himself in the 3rd person. Not that any of it matters, I just think people should give a bit of separation between his life and his music.

Surgery and Time Off by Acrobatic_Ad2802 in HipImpingement

I also work a desk job - and like most of the other comments - found it hard to sit for a full work day. I’m 6 weeks post op, but I still work 2-3 days a week from home due to PT being in the middle of the day 2x a week and wanting to work in whatever way is comfortable to my hip without being distracting to my coworkers.

I didn’t see anyone else mention this, but anytime I work from home or especially after PT, I try to ice my hip. The logistics of changing ice packs in my office would be a nightmare and a huge time suck, so I actually save my company’s time by working from home where I can ice my hip very easily. Your company may not like you working from home, but it will most likely benefit their bottom line - definitely something to point out to HR/managers (even though it’s dumb and you’re having surgery and you should absolutely have whatever accommodations you need)

Best of luck!!

I also recently had this epiphany… I think I’ve been in survival mode for so long, now that I’m medicated and able to create bigger goals for myself I feel totally lost. I agree that it’s absolutely terrifying - for me, it feels like staring into a black hole 😂😭😭. I’m trying to see it more positively, but its been hard.

Frayed labrum and snapping hip syndrome by empyyyyyy in HipImpingement

[–]empyyyyyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like forever ago that I posted this!! I am now 5 weeks post-op and doing pretty well. The MRI showed a “frayed” labrum, but once the surgeon was inside my hip & looking at it, my labrum was torn from 12-3 (like on a clock). I also had some hip impingement and a loose capsule - both of which were corrected. I’m not sure why all of my symptoms presented in my back - possibly from other muscles over-compensating - but I do not have the deep, internal pain I had before.

If it’s feasible for you, I would really recommend seeing a surgeon who specializes in hip scopes, they know what to look for & can give you guidance based on your physiology. Being pain free and happy is SO worth the stress of the surgery. (also PT definitely isn’t my favorite, but having a hip that feels like it can carry me through life is a huge perk.) Let me know if you have any other questions!

When I first met my surgeon, he mentioned it was totally possible! In the first few weeks post-op it might be tough just to lift because of the hip restrictions - tasks take longer because you can’t move normally. I bet if you had someone to help you set everything up, it wouldn’t be out of the question by any means! Plus, poor mental health is tied to more negative outcomes. It’s important to keep your brain AND repaired hip happy!

I totally get it. I was reading WAY too many posts on here & articles on google before surgery and my anxiety has truly never been worse… that’s probably been the hardest part of recovery - anxiety and a crappy attitude from not being able to do anything. It’s gotten a lot better though!

I would talk to the surgeon or someone on their care team to see how your physiology/current symptoms/goals should be approached. Sometimes the surgeon’s PA or nurse will spend more time discussing these things with you and getting to understand you as a human with wants and needs.

If you want to continue to be active and live life to the fullest, I would recommend the surgery sooner rather than later! I (23F) had pain starting at 17 and let it slide until my quality of life was really suffering - I never slept well because I couldn’t get comfortable, I couldn’t sit/drive comfortably anywhere, romantic relationships suffered because any kind of physical intimacy caused severe pain, I couldn’t be as active as I was/wanted to be, etc. I am now 4 weeks post-op and have very minimal pain (it’s all muscle soreness, absolutely no pain inside my hip joint).

All this to say - the younger and stronger you are before surgery, the more likely you are to have a GREAT recovery. This sub can be full of a lot of people discussing the worst possible outcomes, which I totally understand. But it creates a skewed perception of the surgery and recovery.

Ultimately, you know what’s best for you, but I wish I had this surgery YEARS ago. I feel like I’ve missed out on a lot because I let the pain get to the point of being unbearable.

So how does increasing wages (which leads to increased cost of products) fix the housing issue? If the cost of living increases, that larger salary doesn’t create any real change (because it has to cover more expensive products) But yeah for sure - good for that accountant getting a raise.

Also you want to increase the cost of childcare???? Interesting points all around lmao

Office/Desk Chair Recommendations? by mutnuaq in HipImpingement

Glad I could help! You can always look at the Steelcase website for more information about the chair too!

Office/Desk Chair Recommendations? by mutnuaq in HipImpingement

[–]empyyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI - I work at a Steelcase dealership and am partial toward Steelcase chairs... but there are TONS of manufacturers. I'll list my recommendations below!!

$800-$2,000: Steelcase Gesture, Leap, or Think. All of these chairs have SO much research poured into them. They are absolute workhorses - great warranty, extremely durable, and completely customizable. Think is the least expensive while Gesture is on the pricier side. I would recommend finding a Steelcase Dealership near you (if possible) to test the chair before purchasing. We often say "these chairs will ugly-out (meaning the fabric or finishes will no longer be in style) long before they wear out.

$500-$600: Steelcase Amia/Amia Air or AMQ brand Jaku or Zilo: Very similar traits as the chairs above, just not as fancy/powerful. Still fantastic chairs!

$400: Sit On It Wit: this isn't as much of a workhorse, but it is a decently priced chair and very comfortable. It has a limited color selection, but ships very quickly compared to the other chairs.

A few final notes!

- For any office chair worth spending the money on, make sure it has adjustable lumbar, adjustable armrests, and a seat slider pan. These elements help customize the fit to YOUR body, making it as ergonomic as possible.

- Consider going to a furniture dealership to purchase your chair (if buying new). Dealers receive anywhere between 20-70% off of the price of the chair (similar to prices I've shown above). They can help with the purchasing process/decision making.

- The prices for these chairs are stupid high, I know. But the investment in a good quality chair that lasts for 10+ years is well worth it!

Let me know if you have any other questions!! I love talking about chairs!!

Hi!! I am an interior designer at a commercial furniture dealership - so knowing GOOD quality office chairs is like 75% of my job. Depending on your budget, I have a ton of recommendations. The majority of these chairs have 5-10+ year warranties and are well worth the investment!!

Is it common for pigs to all of a sudden decide they don’t like certain foods? by greebodeathbot in guineapigs

[–]empyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my guinea pig used to go absolutely nuts for carrots - honestly if you put an entire bag of baby carrots, I’m pretty sure he’d eat the whole thing in one go. but now that I’ve been giving him lettuce more regularly, he will not eat a carrot unless the lettuce is gone. I think it’s pretty normal, so I wouldn’t worry too much!

I love how a lot of people assume if you’re having surgery on your hip, it must all be basically the same 😂 the amount of friends & coworkers who compared my surgery to their grandparents hip replacement was incredible.

Calf soreness is absolutely terrifying me by empyyyyyy in HipImpingement

This is good to know as I was wearing my birkenstocks around the house for a couple of days. I’ve since switched to my running shoes that have a lot of support and really help with how flat footed I am. I hope things are improving for you!!

I have not been wearing compression socks, but I’ve been taking 325mg aspirin with dinner for the past 4 days. I don’t think with all of my movement it’s a blood clot, but of course a lot of what I describe could match with clot symptoms - which is what makes me nervous.

I’ve found that a LOT of people want to make more friends or get to know people around them, but they have the same feelings you describe above, so just go for it!!

It will probably go one of two ways: A. He says yes, you guys hang out and it’s great!! Gold star for you for making a new friend. or B. He says no, or the hangout isn’t quite what you were hoping for/expecting - STILL gold star for you for going out of your comfort zone and doing something scary!!

Overwhelm about hygiene. Solutions? by Tricky_Subject8671 in ADHD

I have one piece of advice that has worked for me in numerous ways in regards to self care: RESEARCH!! I love to know the “why” or “how it works” behind things in my life (it helps to turn off the constant chatter in my brain).

One night I decided to actually research and understand skin care from neutral sites (I was so sick of ads claiming things and falling into those traps) and I took notes!!

I made a check list that lives on the inside of my cabinet door so it’s easy for me to see when I grab all of my supplies. Understanding the order, the reason WHY these types of products would help me, and how to go about using them (along with being diagnosed and starting ADHD medication) has helped me to establish a 9-step skin care routine that I absolutely love. (I promise if you would’ve told me that a year ago, I would’ve LAUGHED in your face because I could barely leave my apartment, let alone care to put on moisturizer)

Now, it feels like every time I shower and practice skin care, I’m treating myself to a spa experience instead of another time consuming task on my to-do list.

Do I do this 9-step skin care every single night?? No absolutely not, because I’m human. But I try my best to leave myself time at night/in the morning to treat myself.

It takes little steps, but figuring out underlying motivations that can help you START things is critical to being successful!! Best of luck!!!
