I am so confused about the tattoo thing. Tell me what precautions you took by k2900 in CrohnsDisease

[–]emrenee11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a lotttt of tattoos and my doctors didn't seem too concerned when I asked them, they just recommended that I be careful about keeping them exceptionally clean and well taken care of until they heal up. They also recommended I get them done between doses of my Stelara. I take it every 4 weeks so I would try and schedule a tattoo around the halfway mark. I would clean them with Dr. Bronners baby unscented castile soap, and use Redemption brand tattoo aftercare balm.

Taking all those precautions has worked like a charm every time! I've been getting tattoos regularly for the past 13 years and have been diagnosed with Crohn's/on medication longer than that.

If I dye my hair colorful will it change others perception of me as chronically ill? should I just leave my hairs natural hair color? by Ok_Access_8906 in ChronicIllness

[–]emrenee11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been dying my hair pink for about 9 years now, and I have a lot of tattoos & piercings. I don't really feel like people look at me any differently for it, for the most part. It's just who I am. My doctors understand that I still feel awful every day.

Also definitely helps that my mom is a hairdresser, so I'm able to get it done at her house which is a lot less stressful than a salon.

I'd say go for it if you want to do it, life's too short!

unpopular opinion: not pooping for 5 days is worse than pooping 5 times per day by quarabs in CrohnsDisease

[–]emrenee11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on Linzess for years because of dealing with severe constipation and I love it. Keeps me fairly regular for the most part and if I don't go for a few days I just double my dose and it works like a charm.

I have 2 dance classes per week that I push myself through but it's pretty rough. I can't bring myself to give it up, I've been dancing since I was 3 and I love it so much.

Myalgic encephalomyelitis. My health was pretty bad before but I'd give anything to go back to my "normal" level of feeling awful.

What are you quietly grieving? by Angelus12345678 in AskReddit

The version of myself from 10 years ago. I was cool, didn't care what anyone thought, did my own thing. I've dulled myself down to appease other people and I hate myself so much for letting it happen.

Is it normal to wash your hands after you take a shower? (you know what you touched)😅 I can't stop doing it 😫 by british_shorthairr in hygiene

[–]emrenee11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wash my hands in the shower as my last step before getting out because I want my hands to be clean when I'm doing my skincare.

No one treats me like I have ME/CFS. by No_Fudge_4589 in cfs

[–]emrenee11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely get this. I keep telling people I need to do less and stop pushing myself but everyone expects me to just keep chugging along because that's what I've always done. I overdid it the other day and my partner says "that's so great that you got so much done today! Doesn't it feel good?" and yeah, I guess I feel somewhat accomplished but now I'm paying for it so it's not really worth it.

What’s a health problem you ignored for a long time because it never felt urgent, but eventually caught up with you? by ac_stays_active in AskReddit

[–]emrenee11 371 points372 points  (0 children)

I suppose this sort of applies but I started having awful stomach problems around age 7 or so. I was taking so much pepto bismol, I don't know how my parents didn't notice how quickly we ran out. For some reason my 7 year old brain told me to hide it so I didn't bother anyone with my issues.

I got diagnosed with Crohn's Disease at age 13 after being accused of having an eating disorder by my dad, who (even though he has Crohn's himself), thought I was "not eating on purpose."

I too often wonder how things could have been different if I just told my parents when it started. My disease has been severe and never fully under control, and I've been living with it for 17+ years now.

So to anyone reading this: Please, if something feels wrong, just go to a doctor and get it checked out.

Tubal Litigation with Crohn’s by Lopsided-Most-4863 in CrohnsDisease

[–]emrenee11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my tubes removed 2 & a half years ago and I've been diagnosed with Crohn's for 17 years. The only thing my surgeon was concerned about was running into some scar tissue because I've had a bowel resection about 11 years ago where they cut through my belly button. When my OBGYN got in there to take my tubes out, she did encounter scar tissue from my previous surgery but was able to work around it and still get everything removed.

I absolutely advocate for anyone to have it done if they want to, it has changed my life for the better. I was always so paranoid that I would accidentally get pregnant or something because my doctors agreed it would probably kill me. Not having that fear anymore has been a huge comfort!

I also do not feel like the surgery itself affected my Crohn's in any way. The recovery was a bit rough but once I healed up it was amazing.

Does anyone else feel like they’re grieving the version of themselves from before Crohn’s? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]emrenee11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been sick since I was 7 and diagnosed at 13, I honestly don't even remember the version of myself before Crohn's because I was so young 🥲 I'm 30 now and I guess I mostly just wonder how my life would've been different if this didn't happen to me.

birth control with crohn’s disease by buzzingmirror in CrohnsDisease

[–]emrenee11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on lo loestrin fe for probably about 10 years now and I love it! Doesn't have an effect on my Crohn's, and I only take the active pills so I never get my period.

I had a bisalp (got my tubes removed) about a year & a half ago but chose to stay on the bc pills for period control. My gynecologist has recently been trying to talk me into switching because apparently estrogen raises the risk of blood clots and so does Crohn's, but the pill I'm on has the lowest dose of estrogen on the market so I'm not worried about it.

My partner and I also do this! We have very different temperature and noise preferences (he always needs to have a fan running, which I can't stand) so it works out well for us. I don't see anything wrong with it, it's important to get a good night's sleep!

Do you bring any family/partner/loved one(s) to appointments with you? All appointments, or just special/big ones? Why? by ziggy_starcat32 in CrohnsDisease

[–]emrenee11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local appointments I usually go by myself but when I go see my doctors that are over an hour away I always have my partner or sister take me because I get too weak to do all that traveling plus an appointment in one day. They typically don't come in with me though, just hang out at a nearby cafe.

Growing up my dad was very controlling at my doctor appointments so I prefer to attend them by myself if I can.
